give me shared inside jokes that date back to wayyyyy before a first kiss was ever shared. give me living together with separate bedrooms until one of them gradually becomes unnecessary. give me confused reactions from people who already assumed the two of them were dating. give me arguments over what counts as an anniversary because should we start at the date we met or the date we became friends or the date we got over our stupid selves and finally started kissing.

give me stories that show the line between friends and lovers is a really, really thin one - that appreciating the friendship that two characters share doesn’t mean you can’t ship them really damn hard too. that you can keep all the awesome friends-being-assholes-to-each-other stuff and add on all the shippy stuff to get something extra special awesome.

give me all of that.

They hadn’t been expecting snow so early into the season but here it is, covering the ground like a thick blanket and still falling. Tree limbs that have already lost their leaves are weighed down by the stuff, too, and the lake just down the hill has frozen over. It’s going to be a long winter but it’s beautiful and there’s nothing more soothing that watching snow fall from the skies, so Illyana doesn’t care in the slightest. Kitty has had a few things to say about the weather, but Illyana shut her up with an impromptu snowball fight even though they’re supposed to be untangling the Christmas lights to string them up around the mansion. And because that wasn’t enough, they heated things up a little more when Kitty complained about her lips being numb and Illyana found herself pinned to the nearest tree, strategically hidden just out of view of the windows —- or so they hoped —-, where they made out like uncontrollable teenagers until a pile of snow fell off from the branches and had them scattering like they’d been caught.

Now, Illyana maneuvers around a giant pile of snow they’d pushed together just in case one of them fell off the roof putting up the lights, going back and forth to make sure she has all the coils completely kink free and ready to go. They still need to test to make sure they work before they put them up, but Kitty was supposed to be back with their hot cocoa five minutes ago and she’s no where to be seen. Lockheed isn’t around, either, but she’s not surprised about that. He always finds somewhere more important to be once they start giving each other that look, with the smirks and the subtle once-overs. They’ll probably get shit for it from him later, but they give as good as they get from the stupid dragon.

Illyana’s so caught up in trying to get a knot out of one of the few remaining coils that she doesn’t hear Kitty come up, doesn’t see the devious little smirk that crosses her lips and doesn’t hear her set their cups down on the brick lip under the window or the snow crunching under her feet. 

She’s so fixated that it doesn’t occur to her to look up until ————-

               ‘ INCOMING !! ’

The sorceress looks up just in time for their bodies to collide, Shadowcat’s arms locking around her waist as she tackles her straight into the pile of snow. It caves in under their combined weight and Kitty’s already laughing before Magik can even wipe the shock off her face. But then she’s laughing too and she immediately seizes her fiancee’s wrists in her arms and rolls over, sending them tumbling off the pile and into the Christmas lights. Their feet get caught up in the string Illyana’s already holding, getting them all wrapped them up in it as they go and it only gets worse once they roll onto the other coils and they find themselves with another mess to deal with.

But either they don’t care or it hasn’t hit them yet, because they’re both still laughing so hard their stomachs hurt and they’re trying to sneak kisses through their laughter, only to miss and laugh even harder still. 

Maybe one day that decorating will get done.

YES. JESUS. THERE’S SO MUCH THAT I JUST????? BENDIS’ RUN IS ONE OF THEM. Like some things, very, very few things, in his run were on point or kinda got close to the mark but 98.5% of his run was garbage for her.

Then we have Gillen who ruined her characterization even more than Yost did. That whole fucking Juggernaut bullshit with Colossus was so out of character. She would NEVER do that, ESPECIALLY not to her fucking brother. They wanted a way to twist Colossus and add something new to his character and they destroyed Illyana’s characterization to do it. The fandom hated her for this shit for so long and it’s infuriated af because it’s not her AT ALL yet this is one of the main things she’s remembered for.

The first thing she’s remembered for is stealing Pixie’s soul in New X-Men, brought to us by Yost’s trash ass. Another example of people not doing their research on Illyana’s character and simply throwing her characterization under the bus for someone else’s storyline. They needed a villain so why the fuck not use Illyana? This was so far out of character like, I honestly can’t read this storyline because it’s so horribly OOC. Illyana would never do that to someone. She knows how it feels to have her soul ripped from her, she knows how it feels to be tortured, she’d NEVER do that to anyone EVER. 

And don’t even get me started on Hopeless’ Secret Wars’ redux of Inferno.

Illyana gets the short end of the stick in EVERYTHING and it’s so disheartening for someone who loves her so much. She’s gotten so many shitty portrayals just to support someone else’s plot and fjsldjflskdjf. SHE GETS REMEMBERED FOR THE MOST HORRIBLE, OOC SHIT WHEN SHE’S ACTUALLY AN X-MEN WITH ONE OF THE STRONGEST MORAL COMPASSES OUT OF ALL OF THEM.  SHE’S GOOD AND SHE LOVES HER TEAMMATES AND HER BROTHER AND HER FRIENDS AND SHE JUST WANTS TO DO GOOD AND HELP PEOPLE BUT NO ONE PAYS ATTENTION TO THAT BC THEY’RE TOO BUSY FOCUSING ON PIXE AND PIOTR.
