FINAL REFLECTION

This essay is about the summation of what I did in my MPU classes. :) 

What we basically did this whole week was not only helpful for a college student like me but also helped me to re-focused my objectives and goals to a brighter future. To be completely honest, I thought the program would be useless and boring. But thinking about it now, it actually helped me think better and more fluid towards my goals.

So firstly, we did group discussions, on what challenges and values we have learnt together when we do group assignments. We discussed on what we have experienced and explored different perspective on this topic. Besides that we also helped each other talk about our strengths and weaknesses.

I also had created a blog which is this one. It helps document all of my goals and plans for my undergraduate education. 

The SWOT analysis really helps identify my weaknesses and strengths. I have come to realize what i need to work on and what obstacles I need to go through.

I also did set my SMART goals. This further helps me to focus on my goals to study in the UK.

Not only that, I have also found out about my learning style. I am a Kinestetic learner and also a Visual learner. This realization helps me to study more effectively.

To summarize everything, I am grateful to have listen to the lecturers and this whole programme really helps me to identify myself as well as my dreams..

ACTION PLAN

I think the most important goal that I want to be focused on is getting As for all of my subjects which is Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Literature. I will need to study hard and practice on past year papers to score well for my first semester examinations. Hopefully, with my good forecast results I may be able to get a conditional/unconditional offer to any of the universities of my choice. This process would not only be easier but also will be in the time limit that I have put myself in. The problem is that my personality will be quite hard to work on as I am lazy and not very hardworking. Not only that I procrastinate alot.

After I complete my first semester exams during June, I will apply for my preferred universities. I will use my forecast results to hopefully get a conditional/unconditional offer. If all plans fail, I will first complete my entire A-Level course. After that, I will apply for Taylor’s University with my A level results. 

My support system will primarily be my family. They supply me the financial support as well as the emotional support I need. I also think I will probably rely heavily on Taylor’s University Placement center to go to my preferred universities. 

One of the biggest challenges that I will most probably face is that my results cannot meet the entry requirements. Not only that, the competition to accept international students to universities in the UK is very high. I am also afraid that my family will not be able to support me financially. 

I will need to study hard from now on. I will need to get at lest AAA. To help my family to relieve the financial stress, I will try to find scholarships and work hard towards those requirements. With these conditions I hopefully will be able to enter my university.

I would call myself an empty vessel. Not out of insecurities or any of that sort, but rather through pure observation and self realization. My personality and actions develop and change so rapidly, I seem so un-solid. I know what I like and dislike but these preferences change too quickly, it’s unsettling.

I used to say that if I were to introduce myself to new people, I would be direct and be straight to the point. But now I feel that I’m more of a person who would play around with nonchalance and ask silly unimportant things like hobbies and such. It’s not like I hate this new me but I do hate the way I don’t seem to have a basis for these changes I am experiencing. For now, I am person who believes that everything has roots, at least a type of starting. For now I guess.

But I do know what stays put within me. My desire to impress myself. I want to outshine myself so much I would put up with so much stuff that would seriously danger myself and my reputation.

All in all, I will admit, I am the single most 1 dimensional person there ever existed. But this might change, quick too. I wouldn't know would I.

SMART goals

Goals: Get better grades for Literature.

S: I want to finish all of my book reports which is Richard III and The passage to india. M: I need to increase my Literature marks by at least 30 marks. A: I need to use this knowledge to apply into the course I want which is the PPE courses. R: I need to practice the values that I have learnt from Literature into real life. T: I need to finish The Passage to india by this week and at least 40% of richard III before my holiday ends.

SWOT Analysis

My strengths to become a lobbyist or a diplomat is that I am very passionate when it comes to fighting for social justice. I also love to challenge ideas and reinvent concepts and definitions.

My weakness when it comes to this is my laziness to read up further into my facts. I also am a very stubborn person when it comes to radical acceptance.

The opportunities that I have had is joining writting competitions to gain my confidence as well as recognition. I also plan to join an internship at a law firm.

My threat to my career path is financial problems because the course that i want is only available overseas.. Not only that the acceptance rate for international students is usually low and the competition will be high.

My Goals

My goals for university placement is to be able to study the PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) course over in the UK or the US. I want to further my studies in the University of Essex as it is ranked #1 in the world for its politics courses. I believe that I am able to achieve a balance between my interest as well as realistic needs by choosing this path.

Future Career Ambitions

I haven’t really thought about what career I am going to take. I hope to find it during my studies in my preferred universities. But all I want is to be able to fight for social justice. I want to live up visions, morale and values that are so important for the peace and quality of mankind.

My Learning Style

My lessons today included a quiz on what my learning styles are. I did the one on the papers first which had a few questions that questions our likes and dislike in methods of learning. I found out that I preferred the Kinesthetic way of learning things. 

This speaks to me because I have always thought that sitting down in a uniformed environment really agitated me. Especially in the science practicals where we not only need to be focused and precise but also must be seated at all times. I found myself more comfortable standing up or tapping my foot. It really gets my train of thoughts flowing faster and more fluid than ever, despite the stares and superstitious warnings I get from my friends and family.

After that we took another test where we had to watch a video and draw objects. 

Much to my surprise, the visual one was the easiest one to follow. 

I guess that it was easy to do because my my training to copy notes down from the whiteboard has really shown its result there. Nevertheless, my kinesthetic tendencies is quite prominent on my paper. Note; the messy hand-writing, the doodles and such. 

In the next test, i had to complete a quiz on the howtolearn.com website. and the results are.....

And once again, the visual learner results surface up again. I honestly thought that I was a kinesthetic learner but the label of being a visual learner does not seem to sit quite well with me. To be quite honest, I feel that most of my visual learning capabilities comes from me having the freedom to move and stuff.

The final summation? My learning style is the Kinesthetic Style. I can improve my capabilities by taking breaks to relax my mind and get the cog moving again. I can also try to translate theories to real life because i like to do my things hands on.

Reflective Assignment 1

I take Chemistry as one of my A-Level subjects. We are subjected to 2 periods of practical where we perform our experiments of various types. It could range from using the pipettes, pouring acid/alkaline solutions out as well as further implementing our theories of Chemistry into real life.

I think the most important thing to note in these tasks that it really helps engrave a few TGC values. One of them is the Discipline Specific Knowledge which really relates as we must perform these experiments from solid theories. 

Another TGC value I have learnt is the Intrapersonal Skills. The Chemistry Practical Exams for AS and A2 must be performed alone. These classes helps me to grow my own strength to work individually as well as independently. Not only that, the classes help me realise the importance on self-reliance as the dependency on oneself is important especially when faced in a tough challenge. It also helps me to realise the ways that I have been misusing apparatuses and performing wrong techniques.

Over the course of 3 months of doing practical, my Interpersonal Skills have also developed quite rapidly. Although the work must be done alone, my friends and I, as beginner students, had difficulty digesting the new set of rules, regulations and instruction given to us. We helped each other inform instructions, remind each other about rules and cautioned each other about the dangers in the Chemistry Lab.

The last TGC value relates to the Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Skills. By practicing the following skills, I have also developed Communication Skills along the way. I realised how powerful a statement or suggestion can do. It can catalyse certain tasks but can also be the downfall of one. 

All the skills that i have learnt are applicable for all of my university application, profession as well as life. With the Discipline Specific Knowledge, Intrapersonal Skills, Interpersonal Skills as well as Communication Skills, I can use them to gain favours and make my application look more distinct. 

The problem I go through in Chemistry is that the instructions are new and foreign to me therefore it takes a harder time to understand. With these skills, the problems gradually dissolve.
