Day 79: Stop Sabotaging Yourself
You are your best friend and your worst enemy. You know yourself best. What if, instead of identifying what is going and what could go wrong, you chose to look upward, to reframe your thinking, and to consider a positive outlook?
In my nearly 17 years as a fitness professional, I've been witness to a lot of self-sabotaging. The most common areas:
aesthetic goals vs. feeling goals
"I'll come to class when I'm in better shape" (this one triggers me)
I'm your fitness BFF here to empower you.
How to Stop Sabotaging Your Fitness
Embrace "Done not Perfect": Something is better than nothing. Consistency over time beats sporadic perfection.
Set SMART Goals: Create goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound, rather than vague, unattainable ones. Make them short term.
Practice Gratitude: When a setback occurs, show yourself grace rather than guilt. Immediately return to your routine at the next meal or session. Be grateful for your ability to recognize this pattern.
Identify Triggers: Recognize when you are falling into a pattern, such as skipping workouts when stressed or emotional eating. Keep a food/mood log to connect the dots.
Build Accountability: Share your goals with a friend, hire a trainer, or join a supportive community.
Focus on Energy and Feeling, Not Just Weight: Shift your focus from the scale to how you feel, your strength improvements, and your energy levels.
