aww, we need more early deledier headcanons! how about... the moment they told the first teammate that they're together? did they tell him? did they show him? who did they choose? imagine how happy they had to be when they realised "oh, we can allow ourselves a little pda now! ...wow, we're a real couple. huh."
Ok I legit have written this 3 times and each time it has failed or deleted or something so let’s PRAY THIS WORKS
I think Jan was the first to know! Like he and Eric are good mates and getting closer you know and they are starting to get together every other weekend for their BBQ’s and jan has started to notice extra pairs of shoes by the door that look suspiciously like Dele’s and a jumper that definitely belongs to Dele drapped over the back of the couch and an extra toothbrush in the bathroom- but hey that’s none of Jan’s business- and he is only really kind of suspicious something is going on and it’s up to Eric if his friend wants to tell him anything he will right? And then he notices dele is wearing a jumper into training that Eric definitely had on last weekend and Eric is checking his phone more and more, always looking at his screen with an dumb smile- sometimes nearly burning their food becuase he gets so wrapped up! And jan is like pretty sure he knows what’s going on and the other lads have maybe clued in a bit ask the occasional question or a “hey do you guys think” jan is quick to change the topic and take the heat off Del and Eric because these boys will talk about it- If there’s anything to talk about! When they are ready. But then one day Jan shows up early for their little mates BBQ becuase traffic was better than expected and he enters the code for Eric’s gate and goes up his priave driveway and as he pulls up by his front door he sees Dele and Eric tangled up by the front door, kissing softly with Dele’s hands tangled in the front of Eric’s shirt. And well then, that answers that that question then!
But jan just walks up to them and they must really be wrapped up in each other because they don’t notice Jans presence until he is literally stood right in front of them even when he’s just pulled up, parked his car and climbed out- all unoticed by the couple- jan just ruffles dele’s head and smiled and says “hey delboy” before heading into the house. And the boys are flushed and stuttery but Jan pays no mind and goes about unpacking the ingredients he bought with him. When Eric comes in to join him he is quiet and flushed and nervous and Jan won’t have that- so he just continues along as normal, doesn’t ask any questions because it doesn’t change anything for him- he just is happy for his friends and how happy they seem together. Eventually Eric begins to settle Into it and starts to make small comments about how he cooked these ribs with his rib basting for Del last week and he loved them- or how they are having their families over next weekend so he needs to mow the lawn. It’s sweet and Jan smiles and chats easily about his own week, glad that Eric seems more comfortable now. My the time he leaves things feel like a regular weekend and jan may give Eric an extra tight squeeze of a hug but he thinks he managed pretty well otherwise.
The next BBQ weekend Dele is there, as Jan walks into the house Dele is filling up a cup of water in the kitchen, says hi to jan with a warm smile before he moves over to Eric and gives him a small peck before he walks off probably to play video games for a while. Eric seems to be checking for Jans reaction and jan is unfazed already talking about the cuts of meat he got from this new butcher. From there Del makes more appearances, pops in to try their food, ask Eric where clays leash is- ask jan how his girls are doing, maybe stay for a little while but always slips away as if he doesn’t want to impose. Jan notices how Eric watches Del as he goes and how Dele seems never fully relaxed. Then one week jan brings Sophie with him and Eric just beams, understands and The look on Dele’s face is just as nice when he comes out to say hi and spots Sophie. The four spend the whole day chatting and eating and laughing and Eric and Dele have their hands linked together under the table, Del kisses Eric’s shoulder when he sits back down after going to get them more water- its tangible how happy they are to be freely around each other. How they seem totally comfortable and at easy. From there our once a month the BBQ’s are a four person event Instead it two and it’s never spoken out loud but Eric and Dele can never thank Jan enough for giving them that first space to be themselves with others
