some sketches
“Down the Corridor” - 3ds Max and Photoshop mood frame / concept art. I’ll tell you a secret and say I’m not the best at 3d art, but I’m quickly learning a lot by just doing these kinds of pieces. I’m self-taught in this and didn’t learn at school (I think we did some google sketchup exercises once...) I’m liking it a lot - it’s kind of like sculpting (which I love to do in spare time) and the edges are so crisp and clean. I also enjoy being able to explore different compositions from all sorts of camera angles. The thumbnails shown are what I did before the sculpt to have an idea of what I wanted the final image to look like. Then I did a bunch of quick AO pass renders to find the camera angle I wanted, and as it turns out, I ended up going back to the earliest thumbnails in terms of said composition. But it was fun to try different ideas as well.Â

a work in progress for a piece that just isn’t working out. I thought I’d post it to show some in-between shots of how I might go about making an image, even though sometimes they just don’t work like how I want them to!Â
virtual plein air of somewhere in Greenland, dusk and dawn. Probably one of the most beautiful places mapcrunch has ever shown me. I hope one day I can visit. (took around an hour or so this time)
quick warmup sketch
city drawn with the 3D builder in Photoshop and painted on top, a couple hours. Photoshop 3D tools are really intuitive!Â

crumbling castle, about 4 hrs in Photoshop
I really liked Taylor Swift’s new video. The compositions and colors in the shots were great, and I wanted to do a little study of them.Â
