HEADCANONS
Maj has a beach home. You will almost always find her there sitting on the porch, watching the waves or swimming in them
Writing is her thing; she’s thought about journalism but her obsessive personality couldn’t handle it
She’s super obsessed with the loss of a friend eight years ago
Maj keeps a collection of sea glass and driftwood she finds during her swims, decorating her home with them
Her writing often mirrors her inner emotional state, oscillating between whimsical stories inspired by the ocean and darker, introspective pieces
She has a cute cat that she adopted in early 2021, Stitch. She dresses him like a fish. He sometimes hangs out in the water with her on his own little boat
She was heavily medicated and basically living under her parents’ thumbs but she weaned herself off the medication and started experimenting with drugs sometime in late 2021
Maj has a love-hate relationship with her mermaid heritage; while she adores the ocean, she feels the weight of expectations from her royal lineage
Her cat, Stitch, acts as her emotional anchor, often curling up on her lap while she writes late into the night
Maj is very fun to go out with but any further, she’s dark and gloomy; a real Debby Downer; no fun
Her parents’ names are Lord Kairos & Lady Nerida Araxie
APPEARANCE
Maj’s presence is subtly mesmerizing, much like the shifting tides. She has a long, willowy frame that blends into her surroundings, giving her an almost ethereal quality. Her skin has a soft, pearlescent sheen that hints at her mermaid heritage, catching the light in delicate, shimmering hues. She often wears casual, beachy outfits, think well-worn jeans, loose shirts, and comfy shorts, reflecting her laid-back lifestyle. Her hair is a cascade of deep waves that frame her face, giving her a slightly disheveled but effortlessly cool look. Maj’s eyes, though often tired, hold an intense, reflective quality, revealing the depths of her inner world. She’s rarely seen without a notebook or a pen in hand, her accessories simple yet functional. Her attire may include subtle nautical touches, like sea-themed jewelry or prints, connecting her to the ocean she loves.
PERSONALITY
Maj’s personality reflects the duality of her existence between sea and land, and between her outer charm and inner turmoil. Outwardly, she is witty, warm, and charismatic, easily drawing people in with her humor and friendly demeanor. However, her guarded nature hides a deeper intensity, marked by obsessive tendencies and a brooding melancholy. Maj’s intuitive understanding of people makes her great at offering advice and forging connections, but her self-destructive habits and internal struggles often lead her to isolate herself. While she is fiercely dedicated to her passions, her mind can become a turbulent sea of dark thoughts, making her presence a blend of captivating and emotionally heavy.
AESTHETIC
bioluminescent glow like the ocean lighting up only when it’s disturbed — water-damaged pages warped from crying at 3 a.m. — pressed seaweed and dried petals forgotten between book pages — inky blacks and deep blues that feel like depth rather than absence — tide pools holding tiny worlds that survive between waves — soft lo-fi humming through cheap headphones at night — the ghost of drugs and the deliberate choice to leave them behind — flowing fabrics that move like water even on land — pens and pencils chewed raw from overthinking — typewriter keys clacking like a heartbeat trying to be heard — seashells lined up like quiet witnesses — antique compasses that don’t point north but still insist on direction — stray glitter that never fully washes away — notebook paper crumpled, rewritten, kept anyway — long stretches of silence that are no longer empty, just resting — salt and sand ground into cuffs and shoes — a goofball laugh breaking through grief at the worst times — melancholic waves that pull and release — sea foam and imperfect pearls — ink-stained fingers that mean she’s still writing — driftwood smoothed by years of being tossed around — fading sunsets that promise tomorrow anyway — quiet corners where healing actually happens — moonlit beaches where nothing demands anything from her — soft neon glows from city windows at midnight — half-finished stories that still matter — fleeting glimpses of joy that linger longer each time — sobriety like cold ocean water, shocking but cleansing — stitched seams and mended things — paper bracelets kept too long — coffee cups instead of pill bottles — cats sleeping on notebooks — coming up for air and choosing to stay there

BIOGRAPHY
tw: substances, disappearance, mental illness
“Her mind swims at a depth most would drown in.”
Born a lady of the royal court, Maj was born loving the sea. It was her home but a huge part of her yearned to know what living on land was like. She envied her friends and family members who were over twelve and received their rings. Turning thirteen was all Maj could think about growing up. Most of her friends turned thirteen before her and were talking about their experiences on land. It only made her birthday more exciting. Much to her disappointment, Maj’s birthday was not at all what she expected. Her parents were withholding her ring until she was going off to college or her eighteenth birthday; whichever came first. They warned her that the world was too dangerous for a teenager and didn’t think she was ready.
“Dive deep for the treasure that you seek...”
Angry at her parents, Maj fell into a crowd of some rebellious merteens. They’d share their friends’ and older siblings’ rings and sneak out at all times of the night and day to go hang out on land. Maj befriended a young witch her age, Edalyn, and their friendship soon grew into a romantic one. When they were sixteen, she and her now girlfriend met up on land in the middle of the night. It was a night like any other and neither of them picked up on anything being wrong. They were in the middle of a midnight picnic when a shadow came and went taking her girlfriend along with it. Eda disappeared into thin air and it caused Maj to have a mental breakdown.
“It doesn’t matter who believes in you as long as you believe in you.”
In the hospital, Maj was diagnosed and got on medication for Anxiety, MDD, and OCD. After her parents found out she’d been sneaking out, even at eighteen, they only allowed her to go on land for school. After she graduated college, she became a writer at the newspaper and bought a small place on the surface. It’s on the beach and she spends her weekends at sea. She gets into a serious relationship with a fairy. Over the years, she’s never stopped looking for Edalyn. Sometimes she’d become so obsessed with finding her, it would often drive her to meltdowns and hospital visits. Her medication helps but really, it’s swimming that keeps her the calmest. No matter how much she’s tried to escape the water, it always will be her home.
“If you fell down yesterday, stand up today.”
About a year into living on the surface is when the attacks on Northknot started. After word got out about them to the mermaid kingdom, because Maj surely did not tell them, her parents starting trying to convince her to return to the sea but she didn’t want to back under her parents’ thumbs so she refused every time and they eventually backed off. She picked up a habit of smoking weed during her senior year of college. It helped mellow her out when she felt like her medication wasn’t enough and it also brought her many friendships, including her best friend. A few years later, Maj had a meltdown in the middle of a restaurant and instead of going to her psychiatrist to tell them that she thinks she might need a higher dosage of medication, she started using substances other than weed to help calm her down.
“She’s not spiraling out of control, that’s just how she dances.”
It wasn’t long after that, five months after her meltdown, that Maj had completely stopped taking her prescribed medication and was dependent on the other substances. It was partly because she felt like the medication wasn’t working and also because the fairy she had been in a relationship with since 2018 got into a bad accident. The doctors were unsure if he’d recover and the stress of it all got to her. While he was in recovery, he started getting mean and pushing her away. She stayed with him for a few months after that but eventually they broke up. It did not help with the drug use. About a month after that, she had formed a small, tight bond with two other frequent users, one of them being her best friend that she didn’t know was supposed to be sober.
“There is no greater glory than love, nor any greater punishment than jealousy.”
When her best friend got into a relationship, Maj started to feel a little jealous. She didn’t understand why until months later, New Year’s Day 2022, after her best friend overdosed and she visited them in the hospital. She told them that she loved them and it went over their head. They thought she meant it in a friendly way but she meant it romantically and never had the heart to tell them how she really felt. They went to rehab and while they were away, there wasn’t a minute in a day that Maj was sober. She calmed down some when they returned home but things had changed. They were sober and she was not. Later that year, her other drug buddy got clean as well and was having a baby. Although she was happy for them both, Maj started to feel really alone.
“Being alone never felt right. Sometimes it felt good, but it never felt right.“
She slowly started spending less time with them. By the time her friend’s baby was born, Maj had only hung out with them three or four times that past year. Since then, she has started isolating herself more and more. She started becoming more obsessive over Eda’s disappearance and using a lot more drugs just to get through the day. In April of 2024, she ran into her ex, the fairy that pushed her away. It was awkward because Maj felt like he could see through the facade she was wearing. She told him she was doing well but in truth, she was struggling. Obsessing over Eda’s disappearance led to her having trouble at work. She can’t focus on the articles she was supposed to be writing. She has been completely avoiding her friends and family for the past few months and she is using a lot of drugs just so she can properly exist. Things are not going so well for the young mermaid. Her mind is dark and scary and she feels like she has to go through what she’s going through alone.
