I feel like the mischaracterisation and the dreamboyification of Mike Wheeler has gone wayyy too far because like wdym some people genuinely didn't interpret what he said and did in the field scene as flirting š
Like bro this is Mike Wheeler we're talking about here. Bumping into the other person on purpose and acting like it was an accident and then proceeding to tell them how amazing they are using D&D terms is exactly how he'd flirt!
Iām never getting over how some people characterize Mike Wheeler as like- this sort of cool person who would be like-? Emo lightā¢ļø with jewelry and cool⦠maāam⦠that man is a DWEEB!! Heās not coolš I say this with so much love- as much as you want to project this idea of slightly out casted grunge Mike⦠I canāt join that trainš unfortunately he is a rugby shirt wearing loser forever ā¤ļø
Everyone is allowed to do what they want with characters, but itās just something that throws me when I read a fic or headcanon and it takes me out of it
Hey guys- since Iām busy trying to write a continuation college AU to wrap up Mike and Wills character arcs and end in Byler- Iām gonna need someone else to write a No Upside Down AU fic where Stranger Things IS just a book that Mike wrote to deal with his internalized homophobia and he couldnāt write his own pov since El represents his repressed love (hence why she always needs to be hidden and kept a secret from the public- aka the story he can never tell) and the upside down is childhood trauma and even sexual abuse with Vecna and the mindflayer- and in the end, he gets to rewrite the story after finding and accepting himself and getting with Will
Guys- I swear- Mike made up Willās epilogue boyfriend to cope and has the painting up in his dorm room- after experimenting in college, Mike and Will WILL get together, trust- we won, just off screen!!
IF WILL IS ASKING ROBIN HOW SHE KNOWS THAT VICKIE LIKES HER THAT MEANS MIKE WHEELER HAS BEHAVED HOMOSEXUALLY ENOUGH FOR WILL TO GENUINELY DOUBT OR SECOND GUESS THAT HE WAS CORRECT IN HIS ASSESSMENT OF MIKEāS LOVE CONFESSION TO EL BEING GENUINEāOTHERWISE, WHY WOULD HE BE TRYING TO LOOK FOR āSIGNSā OF RECIPROCATION WHAT THE FUCK DID MIKE DO TO MAKE HIM DOUBT HIMSELF Iā
Guys I love that Chekhovās gun LITERALLY went off!!
They introduced tiny will with the gun in the first scene of the first season, and now it has officially fired as of the first scene of the final season. I love good writing.
This will be spoiler free above the cut, and I'll dive into some spoilers below the cut. (this is really long)
First things first! I enjoyed this book! I think it took a while to really pick up, but I still had a lot of fun reading the first half. It's so great to see how much Nico has grown, he's so different from the hurt 10/11 year old he started as, but he's healing and I love that.
It's also great to see Camp Jupiter! I've always been a Camp Half-Blood person, but hey- I can stand a bit of the Roman camp sometimes.
That's most of what I can say before getting into spoilers... So I'll end this section by saying that I understand Rick and Marc's comments on the book now- because there were some hilarious scenes, absolutely bonkers. I laughed really hard, especially during the final battle.
So! Now onto some of my spoiler thoughts!
While I enjoyed this book a lot, I am going to start with the few things that kinda let me down. And when I say few, I mean- they're not book ruining, just things on my Wishlist that didn't really happen.
First things first, my biggest gripe was the lack of Will Solace POV chapters... and just... the depth to his character in general. My favourite part of the Sun and the Star was really diving into Will and him learning about the darkness that he has inside of him. But, in this book he was pretty consistently pure happy, encouraging Will. I think there were a couple moments where some of the comments he made showed a bit of his growth from TSATS, but without the POVs getting in his head... it just kinda... fell flat for me? Of course, meeting Naomi was a genuine highlight and in its own way helped fill in parts of Will... It was just such a highlight in TSATS to see a bit more depth and contrast to his constant happy, sunny personality. I really wanted more of that... This might be the first time I've genuinely thought he just feels like... "Nico's Boyfriend" ... Still ADORE him though! When he was a banana and handed Nico a regular sized Banana?? I'm going to be laughing at that for days.
My second wish list item that did not come true was no Apollo... Rick- it's been five years and there's been two books set after the Trials of Apollo. I NEED TO KNOW!! How is Apollo adjusting and how has he changed while as a god. I wish we could get at least a LITTLE hint- like maybe he could've been a taxi driver who dropped them off and gave them good info- I was really expecting Will to have a badass moment of archery where he prays to his dad and makes an insane shot or something, to show that he's watching over them... like- I wish he could've helped out a bit, even in disguise! There were SOOO many Gods in this- they even comment on it... Hades even shows up! But alas... no Apollo. I'll go cry with the 5 other Apollo fans I guess...
My final iffy comment will be about how random it was to randomly get Hazel POVs 260 pages into the book? Like- okay. Sure. but REALLY late into the game to introduce something like that, especially with no indication like how TSATS has the different suns. But I did enjoy Hazel randomly running into Naomi- I need Naomi and Sally to meet up IMMEDIATELY!
Now! The good stuff! I genuinely think that this plot was a long time coming. Even thinking about TOA, Apollo would constantly switch around and help his enemies, sometimes even "Monsters" join the good guys- think Crest. There's also several "Monsters" who have always been good- Tyson, Ella, Mrs O'leary, the list goes on. Nico being such a character of change makes him, in my opinion, the perfect character to dive into this issue with. And honestly, it ties back into real life really well- it's a great message. People are usually made "bad" because of their circumstances and learned experiences in life. Of course, it goes a little deeper, we need to change the system to eliminate the root causes for why someone might do something "bad" instead of focusing on punishing them after. This entire plot rings very abolitionist to me. but that might be too much for a kids book about "Monsters"
At first Frank was upsetting me that he was so skeptical of the Mythics, but he was quick to change his tune and that got me back on his side. It was also fun to see Lavinia- I was hoping she wouldn't be forgotten. And I adored seeing Nico and Will really take on the "elder demigod teacher" role. (When Frank was like- you won't last a day of legionnaire training- I got mad FOR Will. put some respect on his name).
I enjoyed seeing my prediction of Tantalus being one of the judges was right! Mary Tudor was... an interesting pick... she didn't really go with the Ancient Greek theme even... oh well, whatever! and Pirithous was.... a really fun and interesting character I wasn't expecting! I thought it was going to be Theseus for a second even- but no, his friend that no one remembers the name of (I literally forgot about him...) The court of the dead was interesting, and a good whiny pathetic villain like Pirithous is fun every now and then!
I loved the lawyer fits, that entire scene sucked me into the book! I genuinely thought Asterion was gone for good for a minute. I actually kinda respected that writing decision... but then they got Hazel too and I knew they weren't really gone.... But it was a surprise nonetheless!
When the mist got all messed up and the world got all messed up- soooooo funny!!! The Fraud and Deception Gods (I forget their names, whoops!) I could only imagine them like Lanino and Elnina from Deltarune (eek). And Nico being possessed by Semele? I enjoyed that a LOT. Also the Cocopuffs having development and use, really cool, loved seeing them be utilized like that!
Speaking of... I can't post about one of these books anymore without thinking about my silly little Zagreus/God of Rebirth Nico AU/Headcanon... NOW HEAR ME OUT! Nico is super close with Dionysus, this book makes that super clear (Love their bond). His dad is also Hades. On top of that, Nico is now known for bringing about change in people and himself... a kind of... rebirth... if you will... You see what I'm saying? Zagreus is often associated with Orphic Dionysus- like the OG Dionysus if you haven't looked into this much. I don't think it would be crazy to think that if Nico ever DID become a God (which... this book isn't the first time that idea is brought up... and Hades doesn't even say no, he just says it's just as difficult.) I think that that could be a good domaine for him. I could get more into it and the connections to Zagreus, but I'm exhausted and that's not what this post is about... but fun to think about still!
Anyways! I enjoyed the book! Even though there are some little details that people might find annoying (Child of Hestia...) I simply choose to ignore it! Because I have the power to do that. Pick what I want to take from the source material and enjoy my own version by myself. I hope others can start to do that too instead of only reading the highlight reel and hating. But I won't get into that now! Silly silly silly. If you read all of this you get an award! Feel free to share your thoughts in the notes, I'd love to chat more about it!
My prediction for the next episode of Agatha All Along is that itās going to be a flashback episode with two plots: Teen (Billy?? I assume after this last episode- AHH) and his backstory as he researches Agatha, then the second plot is as heās researching itās going to show Agatha and Rio in their Salem days and how they met and- yknow hehe messy lesbian story ā¦.. BUT WHO KNOWS REALLY?? ITS FINE IM OKAY
This is a question for people who have read From The Sidelines: Iām about halfway through chapter 5? Ish? And I have to keep taking a couple days of breaks bc I canāt get over how much they feminized Izuku- like in the way that it feels like old fandoms when they had to make one of the male characters highly feminine to fit heterosexual rolesā¦. Like- does this get better? Does it get toned down? Because I canāt imagine this fic becoming so popular currently and it doing this to its main characterā¦.
Idk this has just been bothering me bc I want to like the fic, but to continue I need to hear if this aspect gets better or worseā¦
Hey guys, Iām making a documentary on fandom and romantic/sexual love for a school project and I thought I might as well post here for some ideas from the masses
Do you think that fandom and shipping makes you desire a relationship?
Yes, but I would anyways
Yes, but Iām on the aroace spectrum and it makes me sad
No, but I do desire a relationship
No, and Iām on the aroace spectrum
A secret other option (please put in the tags or comments)

Iād also love to hear any opinions on fandom and shipping (real or fictional people). The main focus of my documentary will be on how the media we consume might be pushing the prioritization of romantic/sexual love (and even ~romanticizing it~⦠pun intended).
Talk to me about shipping wars, or aroace characters and how the few we have are heavily shipped, or when people go too far (like threatening creators), or anything else that crosses your mind on the topic of fandom and shipping
Please I beg- I need sources and feedback šā¼ļø
When you make or listen to a character playlist do you base the music off of
What the character would listen to
What songs remind you of the character arc/emotion
A mix of both
Just give me the results

Because I sometimes see people saying āthis character wouldnāt listen to this song this is a bad playlistā but Iāve never once considered what the character would actually listen to, I just musical theatre style put songs that showcase the characters arc and mindset if that makes senseā¦
Right at the beginning of the movie, the lady explains that its her job to 'capture his universe', but she has no idea who this kid is, so she has nothing written.
Miles is the 'original' anomaly, whoāaccording to Miguelāwas never meant to be spiderman. It makes sense that no one quite knows what to expect.
But hold on a second, in a universe where spiderman already existed, would changing a canon event still be catastrophic when they've technically already happened?
If it is, why hasn't the universe where Miles' spider came from collapsed in on itself like Miguel claims it should? Because the spider never bit Peter Parker in that universe, I'd say that several canon events have changed, but other than chaos due to lack of a spiderman, the universe has yet to tear itself apart.
Why do they listen to Miguel anyway? Oh right, because he's experienced it the consequences of changing canon events. But in that case, wouldn't that make him the original anomaly?
It would make sense, both him and Miles have distinct powers that seperate themselves from the other spiders, like invisibility or vampire-esque teeth.
Dont let all the different versions of spiderman confuse you, they all have things in commonāoutside of canon eventsāand Miguel is an outlier in all of them.
No humor, distinct webs, and whatever the hell he injected himself with aside, Miguel has not only lost sight of what it means to be spiderman, but also managed to drag everyone down with him.
Maybe thats why Miguel makes such a good antagonist, because I dont know about you, but alot of what he explained made sense. I found myself even agreeingāgreater good and all that. Sure it sucks, but thats the responsibility of Spiderman right?
But wait. When did spiderman become so cynical? As of now, Miguel is not Spiderman. Maybe he never was. I hope for Miles sake thats not true.
But back on topic. Just like that lady at the very start, Miguel also has no idea who this kid is, or how his universe is going to turn out - and thats a little scary. Especially when its possible Miles can achieve everything he wasnt able to. There are a million reasons why Miguel's univeres collaped in on itself, and I'm not inclined to take his word.
I did a breakdown of Willās character a few weeks ago after my first read-through of TSATS. I went back and reread the book (mostly because Iām obsessed), and I noticed something that I donāt think a lot of people picked up on. Will was having panic/anxiety attacks throughout the course of the book.
I think this is extremely important to recognize because it gives us a better understanding of why Will was reacting the way he was during the entire quest. It also answers some questions that I previously had.
As someone who has severe anxiety and suffers from panic/anxiety attacks, it makes complete sense that Will would also. He is forced into uncomfortable and challenging situations that he canāt control. He feels useless and incompetent, especially when it comes to helping his boyfriend. And he already felt lonely, scared, and unsure before they even started. Combine all that with overstimulation and stress and youāve got yourself a great recipe for mental disaster.
If you donāt want TSATS spoilers, I suggest stop reading here. Iām going to provide some examples from the book to help me out. This will also be pretty long tbh lol.

The Subway Ride:
As they were leaving the station, Nico asked Will to stop shaking his leg (an anxious habit). Soon after this, Nico noted that Will had closed his eyes and started using a breathing technique. He also said that Will did this often to calm down and decided to leave his boyfriend alone.
Breathing techniques are a very common way to help prevent an attack or calm them down. Iāve had it drilled into my head that breathing techniques are one of the first things to do when I feel overly anxious/upset. Ā
As a healer, Will most likely knows about these and uses them to help keep calm. He had just experienced a very stressful taxi ride (which he is described as clinging to the seatbelt for dear life) and is now on a train to start his journey to Tartarus. Iād be freaking out too.

The Trog Tunnels:
The second time Will exhibited an attack was when they were crawling through the tunnels with the Trogs to get to Menoetius farm. Will was complaining about feeling closed in and felt like the tunnel would collapse. He also started feeling nauseous, woozy, and forgetful. The second they left the tunnel, Will immediately needed to rest. He kept his eyes closed and felt better once he had a minute to breath.
These are all symptoms of a panic/anxiety attack. While symptoms definitely range based on the severity of an attack, the most common ones are dizziness, nausea, and brain fog. This is because your brain is tricked into thinking what is happening is a life-or-death situation. Itās pumping adrenaline into your body, but thereās nothing happening physically to you. This leaves you with a body filled with energy and a mind screaming with chaos.
The only way to really stop these attacks is to sit down somewhere you feel comfortable (literally anywhere but a tunnel in Willās case) and calm yourself down.

The Tartarus Argument:
The fourth example is the argument Will and Nico had after the whole pigeon fiasco. The power of anxiety leads you into overthinking and what was Will doing? He believed that Nico was going to abandon him and that he deserved it. He was 100% convinced of this despite Nicoās very stubborn loyalty trait. Will literally broke down in gasping sobs, unable to think of anything but being left behind.
Will had been facing attack after attack since this moment that he finally just broke. When faced with doubt and fear and panic towards the one he loves, towards the person he trusts, coming back from that brink is almost impossible.

Tartarus:
Will was basically in a constant state of panic during the entire Tartarus trip. He was pale, shaky, loopy, and irritated. The rational brain train had left the station and it was not coming back.

As a fellow struggler of anxiety and attacks, Iām glad they added this side of anxiety, even if it was never explicitly stated. I believe that it was purposeful that both authors didnāt state that Will was having attacks because it is a sensitive and heavy topic that is hard to discuss, especially when they were covering a bunch of other bases.
The main reason I wanted to make this though was again to drive him the point that Will was not a whiny, weak-spined character. He was struggling with his own anxiety and fears which drove him to act the way he did. I always see people preaching the importance of supporting others, yet my dash is filled with angry, hateful comments towards a character that is meant to represent people like me.

I donāt usually post things like this, but I figured Iād give it a go!
I wrote this one shot Solangelo fic (finished it last night at like 2am). It focuses on Will as a sort of character study after TSATS. I had a lot of ideas based on the little things we learned about him through the book, and since I wasnāt seeing many fanfics with this idea I decided to write my own!
Anyways, if youāre interested here it is, Iād love to hear peopleās thoughts and discuss this blond boy with others :)
