About Majora-Tabs
Hello!
Welcome to my ocarina side blog. Here is my main blog.
This is the font I use for tabs. It is very affordable. I also just recommend Songbird over all; I own four of their ocarinas, and my first from them was purchased in person at my local ren fair. I have the Ocarina of Time 12 hole and double chamber Alto C, their Harmony triple chamber, and a pink Peeparina.
If you can, when deciding to try out ocarina, it's very helpful to pick them out in person at a ren fair or convention. (I recommend starting with 12 hole. Pendants may seem simpler because there are fewer holes but 12 hole is much more intuitive, IMO.)
When I first started this blog I had only been playing for a few months, but it has now been about a year and a half as of updating this. I have a major backlog of tabs to post when I get around to them. I am open to requests, but no promises.
If you want some very good tabs and would like to commission someone who has been doing this a lot longer than me, check out OCWALK. All tabs on the site are available for free, and usually include a YouTube video with the tabs on the screen.
I may post some of the same songs as OCWALK, as sometimes I've found they don't arrange the whole song and I like to be able to play along with the recording from start to finish.
Another useful resource: David Erick Ramos. I have his method book and it's a great way to learn to read sheet music. I'm not solid enough on my music theory to write sheet music though, so when I want to learn a song and can't find music for it I use tabs.
STL also looks pretty decent; I don't own any of their instruments but I have purchased some of their tabs before starting to make my own. I will say OCWALK's formatting is easier to follow, but if you know how the song should sound STL is still good. They have a lot of Christmas songs! ETA - I now own a second-hand MaxRange Triple Bass Ocarina from STL, it is now my favorite to play.
I intend to post whatever I make whenever I'm satisfied with it so no schedule lmao. I have been working on several Zelda songs, as well as some favorites from BG3 (I am obsessing over getting my tabs for Bard Dance just right I have posted my tabs for Bard Dance) and will tag songs from games or other media so they are searchable. I may also consider posting some videos of me playing, although I don't have professional recording equipment so they would be lower quality than the professionals linked above.
