He knew what it was like going through a break up and he hated it. And he never through his current ex would ever leave him.. “What’d I do wrong? I gave ‘im a fuckin’ promise ring an’ everything! Like… Y’don’t do that t’someone y’don’t wanna marry!”

“Well.” Kaya looked the man up and down, “At the risk of sounding like an asshole, I’m going to assume it’s because you’re kinda older and you gave them a promise ring instead of an engagement ring.”

“Yup. That’s why it’s so potent. It’s not just coffee thrown over ice like most iced coffees. And then when you add nitrogen to cold brew it makes the caffeine enter your bloodstream quicker.” He held open the bag again, “Take your pick.”

“Is that what it does? I just thought it made it taste less bitter. Whatever regardless I love it.” Kaya picked a piece of coffee cake without a second thought, “Thank you I need something to soak up all the caffeine anyway.”

“So I got a little puppy a few hours ago and I still can’t figure out a name for her,” the Hungarian smiled softly as she held the tiny Yorkie puppy in her hand. “Do you have any ideas?”

“Oh my goodness lookout her!” Kaya practically cooed. “I mean no I think you should get to know her a little bit more before you just decide to name her you know what I mean? You can’t just rename her.”

“I wouldn’t doubt it. I know the coffee is steeped for like twenty hours so that definitely helps. Oh, I’m already there. Feels like a humming bird. No worries. That’s one less I won’t eat.”

“That’s how they do it? I didn’t know that but that makes total sense and why you basically hear colors when you drink it.” Kaya laughed, “Well I’ll probably take two just to take another off your hands. If you’re offering I can’t really say no.”

“Ugh, a pretzel sounds delicious right about now,” he laughed. “I’m so in,” he said. “Can we get cheese to dip them in?”

“Oh hell yeah what’s a pretzel without cheese dip?” Kaya threw her camera bag over her shoulder. “We could really get classy and actually find a place that has beer cheese for pretzels?”

“I love Pride. I go every year and it’s honestly my favorite thing. Lately festivals have been popping up everywhere. So I always hope something cool comes along to New York and I be one of the first to experience it.”

“Me too it’s the best weekend of the year.” Kaya grinned at the thought that it was just a few weeks away. “Oh I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before something pops up. It may already and I just don’t know about it, I don’t like that idea but it’s a possibility.”

“The best part of this new job is I get all the left over pastries I want. They’re not even that stale! I may have gone overboard though so please take some before I turn into the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Also free coffee. If you couldn’t tell yet, I have been taking full advantage of that.” He was talking quickly and holding open a shopping bag full of pastries. “Fucking nitro cold brew is like liquid crack.”

“Cold brew is crack I think that’s what they mix into it to make it taste so good. Careful though your heart is really going to start racing if you aren’t used to it.” Kaya wasted no time grabbing a chocolate chip scone. “Thank you much I was absolutely starving.”

“Missing Coachella this year was so crappy, even though I love my job. I just want to go to a festival and dance to music,” the petite woman smiled as she moved her body in her seat. “Do you know of any festival-like things near New York? I need to get my fix.”

“I mean there’s always pride. It’s not a festival but there’s enough music and dancing in the street and in New York it’s a huge deal. But we don’t have anything like Coachella.”

“Aw, thanks,” she laughed. “I do my best.” She paused a little. “Maybe, I should try my hand at something. Like drawing or knitting or something. See what happens.”

“Yeah the worst that happens is that you hate it r that you really ike it but are really bad at it in which case who cares.”

“We’re– talking about all those sites, right? Or just that friendship one?” She released a soft chuckle of self consciousness brought on by her own confusion. “It feels like that should be about all those sites we’ve covered. It always felt like only weird people do that stuff.”

“Well... I was talking about specifically the friendship ones but it’s basically all of them you make a good point. It’s basically just all of those sites in general.” Kaya laughed a little. “No it is, you’re definitely right.”

“What can I say, I’m a realist.” Kaya finally stood up from the dirty New York ground and wiped off her pants. “Do you wanna grab a pretzel or something? I’m starving.”

“Anyone who says otherwise is just a straight up liar because everyone likes validation its like part of humanity.” Kaya shrugged, “But anyway. Thank you.”

“I’m such a heathen I forgot Easter even existed. I will definitely go up in flames. Why do you want to kill me?”

“I don’t I just think that it would be a fun kind of experiment to see what happened especially with Easter being so close. That’s all.”

“You know…that’s a good question,” she said. “I mean, I’m a bartender, but I wouldn’t say that’s my thing. Maybe creating new things. I love doing things with my hands.”

Makaya smirked, “Well bartenders are very creative and we would truly be lost without them so thank you for your creativity it is very important.” She nodded, “So do that then.”

‘Oh we’d leave. I don’t want to stay there either, it’s the middle of the week and Easter is Sunday. I’m still home free for another 48 hours.”

“Oh it is definitely the people on it.” Makaya shrugged, “You’re definitely not missing anything if you never ever get on it, it’s so dumb.”
