This will mostly be a Dead Poets Society blog but occasionally I will reblog other stuff, mostly house md or anything with Robert Sean Leonard bc I like him a normal amount (lying)

Neil Perry was definitely the kid that would trauma dump in the middle of playing, stare at the other person for a few second in complete silence and then climb back on the slide as if nothing happened.

Charlie Dalton was definitely the kid that would self-proclaim himself king of the swings and monopolise them, making the other kids queue and guess the secret password in order to swing.

Todd Anderson was definitely the kid that would hover around group of kids by himself, waiting for someone to invite him to play but not finding the courage to go up and ask himself.

Steven Meeks was definitely the kid that would use very complex words for an elementary schooler and sigh every time he had to re-explain the rules of a game in an easier way.

Gerard Pitts was definitely the kid that would find random bugs, grab them and then drop them on other kids, explaining what type of bugs they were as the other kids screamed and ran away.

Richard Cameron was definitely the kid that would get upset when someone tried to change the rules of games and then explain why it was wrong to do so.

on the first day of summer, todd wakes up alone.

it's quiet and warm in his too-empty room, nearly noon already as sunlight filters in through his half closed blinds. his brother is off already, maybe to florida, maybe to cancun, and there's a silence in the house that can only be attributed to emptiness.

he eats breakfast by himself, grinning when he finds a carton of ice cream in the freezer, whispering carpe diem as he eats it from the container in his solitary chair at a table too large for a family of four.

when he steps out onto the porch, a book held securely in his hands, birds are still humming their mid morning tunes. todd wishes he could see him here, like this. glowing in the summer sun. did neil get freckles on his nose in these june/july/august months?

todd was more built for winter, but neil, oh neil was brighter than the sun. and todd would never know. never know how neil's voice sounded on the other end of a phone on an august night, never know his sunkissed face from photographs traded in the mail, never know if he swapped green sweaters for button-ups and board shorts and just-slightly-too-long hair when the weather turned.

he settles into a porch chair, another sitting empty beside him. the summer heat hangs thick in the air, humidity crowding in close. todd flips open his book, a poetry volume, his way of clinging to the past, and the words grin back up at him:

come, my friends, 't is not too late to seek a newer world.

and suddenly, todd doesn't feel quite as lonely.
