Maybe Disney announced D&D doing the next Star Wars trilogy because they wanted to see if the anger towards them for game of thrones would extend to them doing Star Wars so they would have more justification to fire them. It’s one thing to fire them because people hated something else they did and another to fire them because people hate the idea of them doing the new thing. Regardless I doubt Disney will give them as much leeway as HBO did so it might not be so bad.
I mean, that’s not actually stupid thinking tbf. It could be true. It’s timed at the exact time everybody’s talking about D&D so the timing is ripe. But at the same time… I hate it, but I don’t think Disney actually care. What they see is two guys who wrote the most successful TV show in history. Yes, the final season is a DISASTER, but it doesn’t change (in Disney’s mind) the success of these two writers. Any of us with brains know the real reason the show got the success it’s known for is because the first four seasons were based on the genius of GRRM - and the show has been slipping ever since, because D&D cannot for the life of them write original storylines. But do I think Disney care about this? Honestly, no. Disney just care about money.
Having said that, this backlash has got to be making them at least itch their heads slightly. I adore Star Wars, but I don’t trust D&D enough for me to watch the new trilogy if it’s written by them - and a lot of other people will be the same. The question is whether that’s a gamble Disney are willing to take, because some people won’t feel about it as strongly as us. I want them fired, I want them nowhere near Star Wars but aksjbkjaj
