Raise your hand if you’re done with cookie cutter heroes and villains.
I don’t want perfect heroes.
I don’t want villains who are bad just for the sake of being bad.
Give me heroes who can be selfish sometimes.
Give me heroes who are scared.
Give me heroes who don’t always know what to do.
Give me heroes who are tired and angry.
Give me heroes who don’t always want to be heroes.
Give me heroes who need help, because those are the only heroes worth watching.
And give me villains with backstories.
Give me villains with reasons.
Give me villains who think they’re doing good.
Give me villains who are sad, and give me villains who are terrified.
Give me villains with arcs just as valuable as any other character.
Because we need to get it out of our heads that the world is black and white.
No one is just good.
No one is just bad.
We’re just people.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
