     An amused noise escapes him: something between a scoff and laugh. His humor has always leaned toward the dark side of the spectrum, and working homicide and teaching at Quantico has only further exacerbated it. “Plagiarism exists in all forms it seems.” There’s a subtle quirk at the corner of his mouth---a faulty smile at best. “I suppose it’s like art to them. One’s work ‘inspires’ another.”

    Hannibal nodded, thinking for a moment, resting his own hand on the table. “They may be similar in ways that we can’t identify. For instance; it may be based on their his interactions with them, or the way he perceived those interactions.” He cocked his head. “Though I suppose that isn’t easy to know until you actually find him.”

    He slid the photo away, setting it on the stack with the others. “Did you consider the prospect that these killings may not stem from an inferiority complex, but from a feeling of superiority?” He brushed away a few strands of hair that had fallen into his face. 

     “I had considered it, but it’s difficult to say. The local PD didn’t ask for the bureau’s assistance until this last murder. All I have is photos and case files.“ He felt a certain disconnect from such cold, sterile things. It wasn’t the same as moving through the crime scene, through the same space as the killer. The thinking became harder to reconstruct when he only had printed images and an officer’s report to go on.      “Jack’s having me go to the latest crime scene in the morning. He’s hoping I’ll see something no one else did.” Will moved to sit at his desk, an overdue sigh escaping his lungs. “I’m not sure there will be much to find. It’s already been. . .” Contaminated was what he wanted to say, the first association which came to mind. “---processed.”

a mini update: I’ve been doing last minute touches to a costume, so I’m probably going to be, more or less, AWOL until late Sunday or Monday since the convention is the weekend. But I hope all of you are doing well.

thirty-four. — already, the doctor was sincerely regretting saying anything to graham about his sick thoughts. an fbi psychologist, even a sympathetic one, was not precisely the best person to whom one ought to admit this sort of thing. grimacing a little and downing the rest of the scotch in his glass with one gulp, he muttered curtly, “ i’m not something you can fix, mr. graham. let’s forget i said anything. ”

    “Fixing people is not what I do, and it certainly can’t be done by changing out a few gears to manage abnormal behaviors or thoughts.” Perhaps the good doctor’s admittance would have been more shocking if Graham didn’t spend hours each day either examining crime scenes or lecturing about motive and forensics. His own thoughts were unsavory, and the associations he made were difficult to break. He watched the other for a silent moment, carefully lining up his words before speaking them. “You’re an intelligent man, Dr. Jekyll. I would assume if you thought you were a danger to yourself or others, you would have the sense to seek help.”

Heat courses feverishly through his veins, with fake nonchalance in the form of a half-smirk etching his grim lips as his breaths grow hoarse and ragged. He’s unparalleled when it comes to bruises of body and mind with older imperfections scattered about and every fiber of him breathes wildfire; of his ravaging lick of ablaze, whipping tendrils to voraciously consume whatever’s in its path, along with the devastating remnants of soot and ash. Anticipatory tension becomes his oxygen, thrumming beneath his coppery expanse as the satisfaction of overstepping the others’ weaknesses, as if they had been already battered and garbling with terror.

Darkened hazel narrow into slivers, why the fuck do people always associate his goddamn twin when he’s in it for? His face is contorted in a myriad of emotions; mostly disbelief and exasperation. He’s never dramatic when it comes to countenances, for there are sempiternal forlornness and dolefulness smeared like pre-existing template. “He can protect his fucking ass all fine. Yet I do wonder, why he had been so fucking ungracefully morose.”

He’s surprisingly calm given the situation. Nigel either doesn’t know what has conspired or wants to hear it from Will. But there’s no desire for him to spill forth his secrets like an overflowing teacup. A breath drags into his lungs, slow and slightly uneven. He feels as if he’s playing a particularly dangerous came of cards, and if his poker face is flawed, it’ll give everything away.  “Why don’t you ask Hannibal? He could give you a better answer.” Stalling--it’s all his words do. He needs more time to think, to devise someone to diffuse this tension. “I’m not exactly his keeper.”

    Hannibal had to suppress a smile as Will spoke, but he couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth ticking upward. He stepped around to the other side of the desk and flipped through the images, eventually selecting a photo of one of the more physically fit victims. He slid it between Will’s hands and set the others on the edge of the desk, face down.

    “Why?” He asked, tapping a fingertip against the photo. Despite the man’s visible muscles, he had deep purple bruises spread across his neck. “Why is power in such a visceral form so important to him? Isn’t there some kind of power that comes with the taking of a life, no matter how the deed is done?”

    His gaze dropped to the singular photo. The physical build of this man was more substantial than the others, but was it truly significant to this killer? “Yes. . .but this isn’t as removed in the sense of using a gun. He wants to feel the struggle of his victims His strength is greater than those he chooses. Every kill validates that.” This much Will knew for certain. This strangler found a greater sense of power by using his hands to subdue and later kill his victims.      “There may have been a time in his life where he felt inferior. Perhaps it’s linked to some kind of childhood trauma or bullying.” He’d have to consult with Jack, ask if any connections had been established between them--old classmates or coworkers. “Do you think his victims are linked or merely random?”

              WELL, he wasn’t expecting that. But he nodded his head for a moment. But he couldn’t help but place his hands on the nearby table for a moment. His eyes moved over once again to keep it on the other. HE knew this was going to lead to a very DARK turn of talking, but he was just going to ignore it.

               “ just whiskey? At least you don’t drink to get drunk — A few of us used to do that when we first started here. But anyway….” he stopped himself and once again sighed a little more. NOW his thoughts were being buggy with himself — but he wasn’t going to show Will that. “ – We really do, though. Sometimes I rather take —- Never mind. I can’t really see myself doing anything else — Can you?” 

    Coping measures---they all had some means of putting the job behind them. His never ran the gamut of substance abuse. Books offered a better escape, and his library was ever growing with psychiatric texts and works of fiction. There was a moment of hesitance as the question was turned onto Will, but for once, his gaze met Zeller’s.       “I imagine myself in some town on the coast fixing boat motors.” His father had done it for a living, taught Will everything he knew about the mechanics and fishing. It was only a thought, however, not a reality he usually considered. “But. . .it’s not really an option I could live with.”
