honestly, i’ve been crying about this. i was beyond devastated when i learned about what happened. i can barely believe it. it feels like a nightmare. kyoani is known for their beautiful art and animation, and i have also heard that they treated their employees well. i don’t take for granted when people work hard to create a show i like, and kyoani happens to have created my #1 favorite anime that i have ever, ever seen, and that’s “free!”. if you have been following this blog for a long time, YOU KNOW how much i love free!. i remember the “swimming anime commercial.” i remember learning that it would be a real anime. i remember the way i felt when i watched the first episode. when i watched the first episode, i was ecstatic. i was afraid to watch the next episode because i didn’t think i would love the rest of this series as much as i loved that first episode… but i did!! i got heavily involved in the fandom, i created a sideblog about my favorite ship, and i excitedly followed along with the series. there is a whole lot more i could say, but basically, the show brought me so, so, SO much happiness!!!!! and not only that, but it gave me inspiration for story ideas of my own. these days, i’m very busy and don’t have time to be super involved with the fandom like i used to. but regardless, i am incredibly grateful that free! exists, and i am grateful for every person who did their part to work hard and create this anime.
kyoani created my favorite anime, and they created many other anime as well. kyoani has brought happiness to people around the world who love the anime they have created. this is why kyoani is so important. so when i found out that someone attacked the studio and killed people, i couldn’t process it. i can’t understand. i will never understand why someone would feel a desire to attack kyoani, which has delighted and inspired countless people around the world. i’m someone who is trying to create my own manga, my own stories, my own characters. this is my dream. my dream is to create fiction, but there are some times when i am reminded that the fictional worlds we create aren’t real and there is a real world that is extremely painful. i hate being reminded of this real world. it makes me question my dream. it feels pointless. i feel like, what’s the point of me controlling my fictional world when i can’t control the real world? i have to remind myself that fiction is still important. it’s hard right now, but i am trying to convince myself that i should keep trying to create my fictional world. if you have been inspired by kyoani to draw, write, voice act, or anything else, i hope you will stay inspired and don’t let yourself become depressed about what’s happened. although, i am telling myself that as much as i am telling you.

all right. this is it. the season is now over. this post is about episode 12, and also, what i want to see with makoharu in the future!! =) here is my general reaction to this crazy episode: http://sachi-pon.tumblr.com/post/178494361661/free-dive-to-the-future-episode-12 i call it crazy because it messed with my emotions so much!!!! i swear, something is wrong with me!!! i get way too obsessed over fictional swimmers... lol. (but you all reading this are the same way...)
so were there any makoharu moments in this episode? well, kinda sorta but not really. ^__^U the massage scene i wanted didn't happen. *sobs uncontrollably* i do have to say, i liked this part from the beginning of the episode, where makoto was (adorably) cooking, and he told a story about haru:
this is like an earlier episode where i mentioned the fact that he was saying good things about haru even when haru wasn't there to hear those things. now, he's doing it again. he's so proud of haru!!! ^__^ he likes bragging about how great haru is. but also, it's kinda funny that he forgot to tell everyone that particular story before. it makes me wonder what other interesting stories makoto has about haru? surely, lots!!! after all, these are two people who have known each other since they were very little. this particular story was from before kindergarten. they have spent lots and lots of time together, and they have been there at key moments in each other’s lives, like makoto being there for the first time haru ever swam. makoto probably has lots of little stories about haru that nobody else knows. but those stories are probably secrets, because if he tells those stories, haru will want to tell stories about makoto too, maybe even embarrassing stories... lol!!! they honestly have their own world together with just the two of them. there's a lot that people don't know!!
btw though, do you notice that everyone stayed over at makoto's apartment EXCEPT haru???? *sigh* well isn't that just awesome. -__-U
later in the episode, makoto was cheering for haru as usual!!! but he also noticed that haru had a late start and was not swimming like he normally does.
makoto, you have sharp eyes!!! well, makoto is always intensely focused on haru more than all the other swimmers. <3 you know makoto had to feel pretty worried when he saw haru not doing well in the race. but all he could do in the moment was sit there and watch. =(
okay now i have to describe exactly what i was thinking as i watched this next part...
because makoto had been worried yet could do nothing but watch, it was important for him to be able to talk with haru later to see what was wrong. in the scene where it was sunset and everyone was standing in one big group, people began slowly walking away from the group, because it was time to go home. when i watched this, i was getting anxious, like "PLEASE let everyone leave makoto and haru alone together. they need a heartfelt talk. and there hasn't really been much makoharu this episode... i need makoharu in this final episode of the season!!!!!!" <3
i watched as the group of people got smaller and smaller as people walked away, but haru and makoto were still there. good. i wanted everyone to walk away except them. but i was hoping makoto wasn't going to walk away from haru too. ^__^U
and then... "YESSSSSSS!!!!! EVERYONE ELSE WALKED AWAY!!!! i am sooooooooooo happyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!" good, that's exactly what i wanted!!
everyone except makoto was gone, and makoto wanted to stay with haru. he was clearly concerned about haru. i was glad that there was going to be this nice scene with makoharu alone together. i was thinking that makoto could take haru somewhere and do something to make him feel better. this was going to be a sweet makoharu moment. makoto started to say something, seemingly about to ask haru if he was okay.
then suddenly...
A WILD RIN APPEARS. -___-UUUUUU
okay like. um. okay. the group of people left makoharu alone together and then rin comes in and interrupts?!?!?!
and he actually says "what's up? it's just you two?" UM YES IT'S JUST THOSE TWO. THOSE TWO ARE HAVING A PRIVATE MOMENT TOGETHER. SO RUN ALONG NOW, RIN. GOODBYE.
makoto has an idea of a good place to go, so the scene changes...
now, makoto and haru are sitting together in a peaceful place, looking at a beautiful sunset over the gentle ocean......... and rin is also there with them. greeeeeat. i had wanted makoto to take haru somewhere to make him feel more relaxed, and this was the perfect location to do that, but why'd rin have to be there too??? ;___; i really wanted a makoharu moment. but, there was a third wheel. so i was kinda unhappy about that. (yeah i know that rinharu shippers were probably like "makoto, get outta there!!!!!" lolol) ummmm but still, it was a very heartwarming scene. makoto and rin said things that encouraged and motivated haru. it worked!!!
and then there was the screaming and the floating in the water. XDDD i liked that whole scene a lot. even though i would have preferred that to have been a scene with only makoto and haru, i couldn't help but love this scene because it was very sweet!!! ^____^

and there you have it! =) the season has ended. what did i think of makoharu this season???
i've tried to keep track of all the makoharu moments this season. there were several charming moments. you can tell that makoharu's bond is super strong. that was consistent the whole season. however, i wanted more. there were a ton of characters this season, so i felt like there wasn't as much time for makoharu to be alone together. i will repeat what i've already said before. i wanted to see haru and makoto adjust to their new life in tokyo and experience some struggles and awkwardness because they're not used to the way things are now: new busy schedules, new location, not living right near each other, etc. but they have this magnetic bond that always pulls them together, so the change in lifestyles would be an obstacle that they could overcome. <3 okay okay, there was the part with makoto wanting to attend haru's swim race but being late because of his job and taking care of misaki. then haru felt bad about losing and didn't text him for a long time. finally, they met up again and makoto said he had been worried about haru. but he wasn't mad. so i think that's actually an example of what i was talking about, what i wanted to see. so i guess i can't complain? oh whatever, yes i can. i want more makoharu!!! XD i wished there would have been more makoharu!!! i am greedy for makoharu, remember??? ;)
my favorite makoharu moment this season was... the scene where makoto translated ryuuji's advice so that haru would understand. it was a funny moment, and it showed how familiar haru is to makoto. makoto knows how to handle haru even when haru is having a snarky attitude, hahaha. makoto knows all of haru's quirks that make up his personality. and like i said before, you can tell that haru has a strong sense of trust in makoto. if someone were to watch that scene without being familiar with haru and makoto, they would have learned a lot about haru and makoto's relationship just from that one scene!
another favorite makoharu moment was at the beginning of the whole season. in episode 1, makoto reached down to help haru, but haru pulled him into the pool. lol!!!! oh, and there was the part when makoto kept teasing haru for being embarrassed. both this and the previous thing i mentioned are about haru and makoto doing little things to tease each other. XD how cute is that?!?!?!?
but we also have to think about the future!!! free! is coming back in 2020. that's a long wait, but we can manage. we'll just have to create lots of fanart and fanfiction until then!!! =) =) =) what do i want to see from makoharu in the future? haru is obviously determined to take on the world. makoto says he wants to support haru and rin. so... will there be that massage that i asked for??? XD in addition to that, there are other ways that makoto can support haru, such as "translating" advice again, and noticing haru's weak points (such as when he noticed that haru had a late start in that race) and helping him overcome those weaknesses.
something else that i want to see in the future is haru expressing words of affection/encouragement to makoto, which is very special because it's rare that haru would be so direct in verbally expressing affection. he's done it a little bit before, but not often. so it would be really sweet to see that again!!! ^___^ if he does that again, i am going to freak out, lol. it's just too precious.
but in addition, i want to see haru speaking positively about makoto when makoto's not there, because that would be similar to the times makoto did that in this season. so that's another thing i want to see.
there was also a part this season where makoto implied that haru was his hero!!! =D so in the future, i would like for there to be something that continues on that theme, like a moment when one of them is the other person's "hero" in some way (this is very vague and can mean a lot of different things.) i'm not saying that this has never happened before, because it has, with both of them being a hero to each other during certain situations in . but it would be great to see more examples of haru and makoto being each other's hero!!!!
the last thing i want to mention is that in the future, i want to see another makoharu hotel room scene. <3 or a sleepover? come on, kyoani, make it happen!! ;)

• every time they’re held in makoto’s apartment, haru makes a beeline for his closet, strips out of his shirt and puts on the first comfortable shirt he sees. it slides off his shoulder, and the sleeves are baggy and puffy, but it makes makoto blush every time he sees it because oh my god he is so cute.
• usually in sleepovers, they don’t necessarily communicate a lot. just each other’s presence puts them at ease with themselves. but when makoto is too baffled with studying, so frustrated he’s on the edge of tears, haru pulls out his glasses and takes him to bed.
• they’re both cuddlers, whether they know it or not. makoto loves being both the big and little spoon, because he likes knowing haru is safe, and knowing he’s safe in haru’s arms (until he rolls over and crushes haru completely). haru has an iron grip when he’s asleep, and nothing will stop him from clinging onto makoto unless he’s woken up.
• university mornings after are hectic because haru is too busy staring at makoto he forgets they have university, and to wake up makoto. they run around the apartment, pulling on their packed clothes, brushing their teeth, slathering butter lazily on toast, but they pause in the middle of it to kiss each other.
• haru wakes up much earlier than makoto, so he takes that time to admire him, touching and caressing his back, neck, chest, pressing soft, almost insensible kisses on his forehead and collarbone, and playing with his hair. what he doesn’t know is that makoto is awake, fighting off a cheeky smile to enjoy the rare affection a little longer.
• haru talks in his sleep for the first few minutes. when he nods off, he says stuff like ‘I only swim freestyle’ or mackerel recipes, but he also confesses everything he loves about makoto, some indistinguishable phrases about ‘the makobutt’ and just… anything makoto. it makes makoto a dark shade of red.
• they catch up on shows together, even though haru doesn’t really mind missing the episodes. he does mind missing makoto’s expressions, though. makoto would be too immersed in the show to notice all the crumbs and smudges from his snacks on his face, and haru takes it as an excuse to lick it off, smirking at the scream that’s ripped out of makoto’s throat after.
• surprisingly, it’s haru who hogs all the blankets. if it’s makoto who hogs the space, haru takes the blankets. makoto would wake up in the middle of the night shivering, and he’d try to tug off the blankets from haru, but he won’t budge at all. then again, haru burrito is too cute for makoto to wake up.
• (high school) ran and ren want to sleepover too! they like the emptiness of haru’s house because they can run everywhere despite makoto’s scolding. while they’re messing around or arguing though, makoto and haru take the distraction to steal kisses from one another.
• sometimes makoto has nightmares, and he’d wake up with a start, or just wake up crying. haru wakes up mechanically in the middle of the night at the exact same time (next level telepathy) just to comfort makoto, who grips him tightly, listening to haru’s words of reassurance. his nightmares include the ocean, being left out, and losing haru.
IM SORRY IT ENDED LIKE THAT BUT IM SUCH A SUCKER FOR ANGST AND HURT/COMFORT (ESPECIALLY IF IT’S HARU COMFORTING).

aaaaawwwwwwwWWWwwwWWWWWWw i am melting!!!!!!!!!!!! you have so many ideas!!!! i’m trying to imagine all of them!!!!!!! okay, after this season of free! is over, they need to make a whole new season that is all about CUTE MAKOHARU MOMENTS OMGGGGG. ^____^ my favorite parts were (1) HARU WEARING MAKOTO’S SHIRTS AAAAH SERIOUSLY THE BOYFRIEND SHIRT THING IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MAKOHARU THINGS. =) (2) haru gently playing with makoto when he thinks he’s woken up earlier than makoto hahahaha that is so cute, that is the cutest thing in this whole post (3) HARU COMFORTING MAKO AFTER A NIGHTMARE DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I’VE IMAGINED THIS????? i love hurt/comfort lolol it’s true. yeah especially when haru comforts ugggh i need to stop i’m dying
hey i wanted to ask where is it from that mako is an owl and haru is a morning person? is it from a drama cd or smth?? I remember seeing smth like that before but i'm not sure where i've seen it lol, i would really appreciate any kind of clue :D

so staying up late doesn’t really bother makoto, but haru has a hard time not falling asleep and is more of a morning person~ (i mean, i always assumed he got up super early every morning to soak in the tub before school~)
and i know somewhere it said that its hard to get makoto up in the mornings, but for the life of me, i can’t remember where i saw that.. :s
but i guess i also ended up kind of assuming makoto was the type to wake up late and be a little sleepy in the mornings, since he seems like he’s a little scattered and rushing around lol♥
bonus: it’s practically canon that mako is a cuddler♡

Haruka: It’ll dry eventually.
Makoto: Geez~ you can’t just leave it. I mean, Ran would say “Onii-chan, dry Ran’s hair properly with a hair dryer!” and make me dry her hair every day.
Haruka: Yeah. Because Ran’s a girl.
Makoto, gently, like he’s trying to get a child to listen.
Makoto: That could be a reason, but you really will catch a cold. So please? Let’s go downstairs (ground floor) and get your hair dried properly?
Haruka: No.
Makoto: (stumped) Ha~ru~
Haruka: It’s my hair. I’ll do whatever I want with it.

Makoto: You also said something like “I only fight free.”

Makoto: Wait! That’s not fair! Didn’t we say you’ll have to do as I say if I won?
Haruka: (in a low voice) Keep it down. You’re going to wake the twins.
Makoto: Ugh……but these two, they sure are deep sleepers… hehe
Haruka: They just barged in all of the sudden and made all these noises and now they are asleep.
Makoto: Well, they are kids.
Haruka: Let’s carry them back to their room.
Makoto: Yeah. Sorry to make you do this all the time.
Haruka: It’s fine.
Makoto: …and your hair is already dry…
Haruka: Why do you look so disappointed?
Makoto: Well yeah, after all the trouble I went through and won…… ah, how about instead…

I REMEMBER THIS!!!!!!! makoto really wanted to dry haru’s hair for some reason. XD then at the end, he thought of other things he wanted to do to haru... (lol)
this episode didn't really have any makoharu in it, except... there was a nice moment where haru surprised everyone by showing up at the swim competition when no one expected him to be there. makoto was so happy to see haru there, and his happy face was too cute <333 makoto had tried so hard not to be late, and he was there early, but haru actually did show up late. but when haru said sorry for being late, makoto didn’t mind at all. he just shook his head like it was no big deal. it didn't matter that haru was late. makoto was just so happy that haru was there to support the iwatobi team!!! makoto and haru both treasure the memories of swimming with rei and nagisa. =)

argh, i seriously wanted to write this days ago, but something has happened every day to get in the way of me writing this. ^__^UU but i have a lot to say about this episode, so i would be happy if you took the time to read it even though it's long, hahahaha. i decided to use a "read more" again. also, my posts about the other episodes are in this tag: http://makoharuland.tumblr.com/tagged/free%21-dive-to-the-future
i felt really bad for makoto at the beginning of this episode, because he could see haru from a distance, and he knew that haru lost, but he couldn't actually go and talk to him.
obviously makoto is the type of person who feels a strong desire to help others who are having a problem, so this feeling he has of seeing haru but being unable to go near him was super difficult for him. =( you can tell that makoto is heartbroken. ;__; i was so mad when that guy told everyone to leave. XD i was like "but you have to let makoto talk to haru... come on..." well, that didn't happen. -__-U
and then things got worse when makoto tried to text haru, but haru wouldn't text back.
the first two texts are just casual, yet the third one just directly asks if he is okay ;__; awwwwww... yes, i know that haru really needed his space because he was feeling so down after the loss. but he should have texted makoto at least a tiny bit. or maybe just an emoji??? lol
when they finally saw each other again, i thought it was cute that haru was kinda embarrassed when he was telling makoto that he hadn't looked at his phone. hahaha, aww.
and mako was like "you had me worried!" but notice that he wasn't mad at haru, which was so sweet. and also, notice that haru didn't get mad at makoto either. he could have said like "omg, go away! don't bother me. i don't feel like talking to you." hahaha. no, haru didn't say that. he was in an irritated mood, but he was still okay with makoto being there. <3
but the cutest thing ever was makoto giving haru advice in a way that he knew haru could understand.
the best thing about that was that makoto was smiling and laughing about it. it was so easy for him to know what to say!!! XD haru had been in a bad mood, and yet, it didn't even matter to makoto, because makoto was easily able to help haru anyway. there are two things going on here: makoto knowing haru's personality well enough to know the best way to explain something to haru, and haru already having a huge amount of trust in makoto. so that's that. coach azuma's surprised reaction was hilarious!!! ^___^
amd you know what's interesting? this reminds me of how in the past, when haru was even less talkative than he is now, makoto would sometimes speak up for him. haru's changed over time and he is more willing to speak for himself now, but he used to be more quiet, so he was not willing to communicate with people that much. however, makoto is able to understand haru's feelings just by looking at his face. so there would be times when haru wasn't willing to speak, and makoto would tell others what haru was thinking. he was like a translator, translating haru's message to give to others. but in this scene with coach azuma, makoto was a translator in the opposite direction. he translated someone else's words and communicated their message to haru. isn't that SO COOL?!!!!!!! ^__^ makoto has so many special abilities when it comes to haru, hahaha.
speaking of makoto having special abilities, a little later, he saw haru and rin talking to each other and he thought about how they were going to compete at the global level. but what could he do????
he was having a lack of self-confidence in that moment, and this is something that's happened before with him. he wasn't feeling like he had any special gifts, talents, motivations, or goals, but he knew haru and rin did. he was just feeling like he was on the outside, looking in. well actually, he was literally on the inside, looking out. but you get what i mean. XD it sounds cliche, but it was like makoto was trying to find his place in the world.
but that didn't last long. he remembered his talk with nao earlier in the episode, and he discovered his dream, which is... wanting to become a trainer!!!! =D
this is a very good thing. you know why? because massage is included as something that makoto now wants to do, and haru is included as one of the people he wants to help train.
see? that includes haru.
so yeah, there is now a link between the concepts of "makoto," "massage," and "haru," and i plan to constantly keep that in my mind throughout the next two episodes. in fact, it was already on my mind in THIS episode. ever since nao said "massage," i instantly began praying to the kyoani writers. i thought, "PLEASE? ...PLEASE? ...PLEASE? ...PLEASE? ...PLEASE?" like a broken record. i thought that there was a possibility of makoto massaging haru in this episode!!!! guess what guys? THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED. let me just express my disappointment that occurred when makoto gave a massage to misaki instead of haru. waiter, that is not what i ordered! here is the situation i'm in: those dastardly writers planted a thought inside my head and then did not do what i wanted!!! it's their fault for playing with my emotions. they do this a lot. well actually, i can't truly say that they planted the thought inside my head, because that thought has already been inside my head for a long time. how many years? ummmm... the point is, massage is... like... a... kink? for me? i guess? i don't know how else to describe it, but it's this thing that i thing is... um... interesting. so for a long time, i have thought about that with makoharu, and i keep switching between which one is massaging the other, but it doesn't matter... it's just that i always thought of it as a fanfic type of thing and not a "this will legit happen in an episode" type of thing. o___o but now, there's foreshadowing that points toward it actually happening. so that's not something i expected. XD XD XD i became really excited, and there's no way to de-excite me. hahaha. but wait, do i truly want this to happen? if it does, then my health may not survive. there is a chance of me fangirling on the floor. my family will find me and i will be either passed out or all the way dead, i'm not sure. but i'll have a smile on my face. :)
this show is great and i love watching it because it messes me up with so many feels, but if makoto massages haru, then the show will have just gone up to the next level of ruining my life. i read about certain things in fanfics and i don't expect them to actually happen in the show, because fanfics are... well... fanfics. you know what that's like. ;) however, now certain expectations have been put into my head and i am thinking about the next two episodes and i am wondering if makoto will use his hands in a way that haru will really like???? :O
btw, if you care about massage as much as i do, and you're 18 or older, you should check out the yaoi manga "minori's hand" or "minori no te," because i said so. thank you... and that makes sense, because an UNhealthy relationship would involve makoto saying something like “omg i have to be near you all the time and you’re not allowed to talk to other people without me there!!!!!! and you’re not allowed to be friends with rin or anyone else unless i say so!!!!!!!1111” lol... the complete opposite of the actual makoto. XD he is so much more trusting than that. you’re right!!
haru also has that same level of trust toward makoto, so they both are at this comfortable place in their relationship where they are close enough to have a strong bond with each other without being so close that they are overbearing and restrictive toward each other. this season shows this very well because we are seeing the two of them experiencing changes in their lives, and they aren’t quite on the same path in terms of career choices. naturally, they are not able to spend as much time together as they could in the past when they were neighbors, in the same school, on the same team... things are different now. but they’re okay with that. they know that even when they are not right next to each other, even when they are meeting new people (and reconnecting with people from the past), makoto and haru are still aware of each other having such an important place in their lives. that’s one thing that hasn’t changed, and never will.
