One of the things that i find funny about Calixto is that she indeed always wanted a simple life and proceeded to do EVERYTHING that wouldn´t give her one.
Finds out she is a mage at twelve? Runs away from Tantervale, doesn't tell her family, makes them believe she was kidnapped or worse.
Where she decides to go because she has magic? Antiva, her stepdad stories said that the crows accepted anyone to their ranks, but she thought the assassin part was worth it since at least she wouldn't be on a tower for the rest of her life.
What does she do as she is on the road to Antiva? Trusts a unknown apparent crow that she had the FORTUNE to meet (that it was Zevran Arainai), they never told each other their names, said crow proceeded to give her one year training on the run and if he thought she could survive it, Zev would leave her in antiva.
Where he leave Calixto? On Salle, tells her how to get "selected" (kidnapped) by the crows there. They are apparently "not that bad" there, not ominous at all.
What does she do when the tests start? Shocasts one of her best abilities, her voice, that gets her inmediatelly targeted by other aspirants that gave her the big facial scars she has today so Calixto wouldnt get selected to even do seduction work (since elves are apparently "popular" for that, ugh)
What does Calixto do afterwards? Gets selected, discovers she is fast and VERY FAST, she trains in all the crows "crafts" but ends up as a courier. She thinks "good, finally, something that isn't complicated."
Calixto minds her business, she tries to, but one day far in the future she hears the talon of the house arguing with the talon of house Cantori. There are several rumours of them hooking up and then not, and then having some sort a relationship? She isn't sure.
What does Calixto do? She goes to investigate because things are getting more agitated. She does find them arguing. Nothing bad, Calixto decides to stay near in case something happens, trains near.
Bad move, the talon of house Cantori, sees her, decides it's a good idea to KISS HER while looking at Calixto's talon with sly eyes. Calixto is not a good hare, she should have bolted, but Teia's lips are nice, and oh things are GOING FURTHER (right there what the ffff??? Yep, there was no crows around and Andarateia Cantori was MAD AF).
Calixto will die for this, Calixto accepts this punishment. The only decent kiss (or more) she ended up having in all these years was from Dareth (questionable, since he was one of her mentors.) and unkown people here and there. So she will take this opportunity from the most gorgeous crow talon ever. Thank you very much.
Calixto eventually ends up recalling what is going on and RUNS AWAY, all clothes weirdly and hastily fixed. She knows her talon knows because she was very aware of that, and Teia made Viago very aware of "that." So Calixto is mostly trying to not end up in situations where she is alone with either of them but also VERY flustered because Teia WAS/IS THAT GOOD.
But of course Calixto receives a direct summon from her talon two weeks later and she HAS to go, she can't refuse, so she makes a letter for Dareth where she explains how her things should be divided within the circle of "crow friends" they have and marchs on.
And when she enters that private office, Calixto is surprised to see talon Cantori (grinning) and talon de Riva (nervous? angry? a bit flustered? what is going on?) There Viago takes the reings of the conversation expressing apologies (what?!?!) to Calixto because she ended up in the middle of something that wasn´t not really her problem or issue at all and asks of her to keep it a secret.
Calixto is dumbfounded but manages to nod, makes light of the situation, notices Teia keeps staring, proceeds to ask if there is anything else that she could help with. Andarateia laughs, tells her that yes but only if she stays and if she is willing.
What does Calixto, our smart crow, do? She stays (GOOD JOB CALIXTO! *Sarcasm*) The talon of house Cantori proposes an arrangement to her (nuts!) because apparently Teia liked that she (Uh huh, yes you Calixto.) had kept it all a secret, didn't use it to her advantage on any way, and have been professional about it which (aside that, for some reason, Teia really liked what Calixto did to her.) and Viago was there becase yes. Viago and Teia were an item and he had "veto" power on these kind of things.
Viago had apparently not vetoed Calixto instantly which in Teia's book meant, oh he will probably like her too. So that's it. This is a test run, they should kiss to see what happens.
Of course, Talon de Riva is not on the best mood but also not in the worst mood so Calixto thinks this is a joke of sorts. When she realises it isn't all her "this is dangerous" instincts WARN HER.
But what does she do? She nods, they do end up awkwardly kissing! Viago apparently doesn't hate it! Calixto is now the LOVER of two fucking talons, incredible.
I could write so much more (about what happened afterwards) but the easy life she wanted transformed into:
Went from "sugar crow" to married to two talons.
Has three (nepobaby by all crow definitions) children.
Works more as a hobbie than a necessity.
Doesn't have to worry about anything that is material anymore.
Nobles (or stupid crows) forget her tittle often because now she is "The wife of" (Which she hates, don't say anything like that in front of her EVER.)
Worrying about her nepobaby crow children that are indeed targeted not only because they are heirs to house de riva and house cantori but also because VIAGO didn't mention that he was King Fulgeno II's BASTARD SON TO HER UNTIL MUCH LATER, THANK YOU VIAGO!
If we are being honest, she ended up in a very complicated place. Calixto has all the love in the world (as complicated as it might be) at the cost of her own peace (forever). Yay!
