What old civilization?? U peeked my interest!!
!!!!! OK LET ME TELL YOU I’m just going to go ahead and tell the whole story and it’s going to be a really long post.
so my socials class is doing this rough timeline of ancient civilizations and I have been assigned sub-saharan Africa. Two things to note here:
We are basing the timeline at about 10 000 BCE to present time because that’s about when the neolithic revolution (introduction of agriculture) and therefore the start of “civilization” was.
I am finding NOTHING on Sub-Saharan Africa. The only civilizations it mentions are around 13th century, which is still notable but not quite ancient Egyptian level going on here and I’m looking for something exciting in Africa because I feel like it’s always neglected. People never learn anything about Africa; it’s always erased and written off as a Poor Country (which no, it’s not just starving kids over there).
And then, out of no where, I find this headline:
Basically, there’s this city that dates back to 160 000 - 200 000 BCE!! And it most likely stretches about 10 000 square miles!! Compared to 10 000 BCE that’s a LONG time and 200 000 years is approximately the estimated time of the evolution to today’s humans. There are over 100 000 ruins to be found across South Africa - maybe even over 10 million according to the person researching this!
Here’s some pictures of the ruins from the air!
The pictures are from the air because the ruins are so large that that’s the only real way to view them.
At first, it was just assumed that they were “cattle kraal”, which is a livestock enclosure, that was left behind by the Bantu people who inhabited the area so it was nothing of significance.
Until they found Adam’s Calendar! The circles lined up with all a bunch of different astronomical events which allowed them to date the city with Orion’s Belt, giving approximate estimates of 25 000 years. Then, later, it was recalculated to about 75 000 years and then even later some guessed it to be about 250 000 years, which was then shortened down to 160 - 200 000 years. They also used patina layers to date it
(Adam’s Calendar)
Some really cool facts/speculations about it! :
there are ancient road-like structures that once connected most of the ruins together!
there are agricultural terraces spread out around the entire area that cover more than 450 000 square km! Seeing as people estimate the neolithic revolution to be around 10 000 years ago, that’s a big deal, proving that they grew crops on a major scale!
there are TONS of gold mines all around it that were mined it around the time that the civilization was! TONS!
IF they were dwellings, then a population of about 10 million people would have lived there!
I say if because none of the dwellings actually have doors or entrances? There’s a LOT of questions to ask about the ruins.
There are these influences in certain structures that can be traced vaguely into Asian cultures and also some really clear connection between South Africa and Sumerian civilization as well as some of the ancient Egyptian ideas!
AND THIS is really interesting: based on the structure and electromagnetic measurements it’s strongly theororized that using sound amplification and electromagnetic fields as energy! It’s guessed that it was used as a means to mine and process gold on a large scale but I don’t really know science very well so I’ll just leave that up to other people since I don’t know how that would work.
the ancient tools collected have a lot of acoustic properties and emit fairly powerful energies!

This would mean civilizations developed much sooner than initially thought! And I’m not an anthropologist but that would be pretty exciting I think to look into. Although, it would mean entirely shifting their idea of the human timeline and people don’t generally like to change their ideas that they’ve developed well. Plus, the discovery was only in 2003 so there’s plenty of research still to be done on it.
Fancy astronomical alignment charts:
some Hindu influence:
“roads”:
some strong walls showing there has to be a specific reason for the ruins:
terraces!! :

I have good news and bad news now:
Good News: there is someone who is working on researching it all! Michael Tellinger (link to his website) is focusing his efforts on experimenting on things and discovering more about the civilization! Which people should be doing because look at it! It’s a major discovery! In fact, he’s trying to get volunteers together to help out with the excavations and finding stone tools and that sort of thing!
Bad News: his ideas are a bit… eccentric. Which is fine if it’s just you on your own but it does make the whole “I have discovered the most ancient civilization yet discovered and it’s 200 000 or even 75 000 years old” significantly easier to dismiss.
The ongoing theory is that these are the ruins of the Anunnaki, the gods of ancient Babylonia and Mesopotamia, dating back to original Sumerian texts. The thoery is that this was the civilization of aliens come down from their planet and need gold to fix their atmosphere, hence all the gold mines. So they genetically engineer humans to do their work for them as a slave race, which is why there was a sudden change in evolution around that time and it’s this that gifted us with advancements ahead of our time. This is the story present in ancient Sumerian texts and the one that has been transferred over to these ruins. A lovely summary of that idea and timeline and some close up pictures to the ruins. Plus, here’s a whole build up to that same idea but longer. Do I personally believe there was an alien race long ago on earth that created all these structures and left? No. Not really. Other people can if they want to, it’s a pretty crazy idea to digest, the ancient ruins and with crazy ideas come crazy theories. And who knows, maybe it wasn’t humans who built the ruins; we can’t be the only ‘intelligent’ species out there right?
No, it’s more the fact that he genuinely believes the moon is a hologram. Which has warded off my others from listening to me talk about it, which had me kind of disapointed.
So, sorry for the long response but I just got very excited and spent an entire day researching and none of this is actually able to help me in my school project but I was curious and excited! There’s still a lot of mystery around it - who built this? how many people lived here? what’s the purpose of all of these random stone buildings? Why are there so many? - but I guess that’s what makes it so interesting

What is Your Tragic Flaw?
Selfishness You'd love to be generous and empathetic, but your instincts tell you to look out for yourself alone, and who are you to deny an instinct? You can't help taking a cut for yourself and demanding you get credit for all you do. But here's one way your flaw could help you: When you find a person whose desires you care for more than your own, you can be sure it's love.

I like seeing people when they can’t see me.

Started listening to a Freak Folk album for Mal and right after the first song, it went into an ad for this 90’s vibe rocker very reminiscent of Greed.
I literally cannot escape.
Monsters are not gentle. That is what you have been told, and to a certain degree, it holds true. Rough claws, rough voice, a rough-around-the-edges personality. But that doesn’t mean monsters cannot be safe, cannot be kind. Gentleness and kindness are not one and the same. Monsters can be viciously kind, monsters can be violently safe. Gentleness is not a requirement for love.
I like being alone. Therefore, in order to win me over, your presence has to feel better than my solitude.

I destroy myself, piece for piece, because no one ever taught me that loving myself has been an option.

Missing Asks!
I FOUND IT! I FOUND THE ANSWER!
Okay, maybe not the final answer, but part of the problem! Asks keep getting eaten. Which is a big problem when you’re doing something anon and don’t want to ask the person “did you get it”?
If the ask contains an ellipsis without a trailing space, it gets eaten. It says delivered, but it goes nowhere.
So “Well… then” will get delivered but “Well…then” won’t!
Hopefully this helps in getting your asks actually delivered.
Post I made for my RP account, but very relevant elsewhere.
After discovering this, I tested it. Five different accounts between two people, anon vs not. No matter what, without fail, if the trailing space was missing, the message was not delivered.
I contacted Tumblr staff. They were already fully aware this was happening, but it is not documented anywhere. Nor do they seem keen on giving their users a warning about it in any fashion.
Help me spread the word because the staff won’t!
Me: “I have all these different verses to flesh out and a starter I really wanna respond to...”
Me: Spends all week piecing together a loose timeline of Cormyr.
Just watched a short vid on the regenerative capabilities of Axolotls and my first thought was:
“Ok what if you eat one and don’t kill it enough and it regenerates inside your body.”
While looking through the lorebooks of the Forgotten Realms, I stumbled upon Cormyr, the Tearing of the Weave. In this campaign, the black dragon Despayr was revealed in to have been born marked by Shar. Because of this marking, he was unable to breath acid or weld magic like his clutchmate Tyra and was thus shunned by his mother Skurge, direct descendant of Thauglorimorgorus the Black Doom who once ruled all of Cormyr. Despayr later learned that, in exchange, he had been given the ability to breath shadowstuff and walk the Plane of Shadow.
Much like her older brother Despayr, Malandra was born from an egg marked by a deity, in her case the goddess of change and luck, Avandra. This in itself was extremely odd, considering Avandra was good-aligned, but also one who wasn’t much of a presence in Faerun. Some suspect it was in retaliation to Shar’s marking, an attempt to counter the dark goddess’s plans.
Once hatched, Malandra’s scales were revealed to have a silvery hue, the horns along her cheekbone resembling the wave pattern of Avandra. She gained the ability to change shape, like the changelings Avandra once created, although her mother Skurge was fond of changing her own appearance to look like other dragon species when venturing outside of Tun.
It is rumored that Malandra’s father was not the mysterious black dragon from Chult, as it was for most of Skurge’s brood, but instead a platinum, or perhaps one of the rare Mercury dragons. Only Malandra and Skurge herself would know and both keep such knowledge tightly under wraps.
Happy Birthday!
