Alec slid a drink across the bar and glanced at the clock on the far wall. It was nearing 2 AM, and all he wanted was to clock out and sleep for the next several days. It was rare he had more than a night off at once, but Luke had insisted he take the holidays off.

He suspected his mother might have had something to do with that, but Alec wasn’t complaining. His mom dating his boss was weird, but they were good together. Maryse seemed happier than she ever had with his father.

And it came with the added bonus of better job security.

Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted someone at the end of the bar waving him over. “Hey, what can I get for you?” Alec asked as he approached the man.

“Another dry martini,” the man said, his voice rough and a little wobbly. Alec frowned, noticing the red around his eyes and the way he was hunched in on himself. “Please.”

Bless the Broken Road

It was the second week of the twelfth month of the year and Alexander Lightwood hadn’t slept because today the circus was coming to town. He’d been pacing in his room for the better part of the hour waiting for the sun to rise knowing that just outside the castle walls, the love of his life was setting up camp and preparing to dazzle the people of Alicante with the spectacular sights and death-defying acts that only the men and woman that called the Shadow World Circus their home could perform. It was a place that Alec loved visiting - and something that had become even more special as the years ticked by and he grew closer to one particular acrobat.

Alec had been fourteen years old when he’d first slipped away from his guard and escaped from the castle with no one the wiser. He hadn’t had a destination in mind as he pulled a cloak over his head to shield himself from wandering eyes and followed the familiar cobblestone paths into the center of town. He only wanted to take a few hours to himself. His lessons earlier that day had been particularly vexing and his parents were riding him harder than normal after they took in the son of an old friend who turned out to be better at everything than Alec himself was. Jace was the perfect son in their eyes and it was only a shame that he was adopted and couldn’t take the throne. Instead, they pushed Alec nearly to his breaking point hoping that he would one day become the king that they desperately wished their new son could be.

HIIIIIII GOSPIIIIIIIII, i will warn you that this is my first time participating in a secret santa, so im so sorry if i didn't do this well, but i really really, really really hope that you like it,

just to lay it out for you, these are the parts of your prompt that i mannaged to sqweese into this fic: Fluff, ofc, first meet. Chaotic disasters, happy ending, First kiss, technically they ARE coworkers, but I'm not sure this is what you meant, emotions, chivalry because. It's magnus, he's the fucking definition of a gentlemen and Sharing clothes.

i did go a little off the rails with some of my favoret things, but i tried my best to stay on track, though i do thinnk it fi pretty darn well in the end.

Alec woke up early that morning, as he had been doing for the past few days, its winter, so its getting colder, its actually been snowing for the past week or so.

and while it had made patrols a little more high risk, had raised the number of injures, its been pretty to look at, 'it' being the whole of New York, covered in a thin sheet of white snow.

Alec had been sure that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep in a strange bed, and having the black masquerade mask on the top half of his face isn't helping. But the long hours at the office closing the accounts for the financial year must have finally caught up with him and the bed smells safe even though he's never been in here before, and Alec is so soundly asleep that he is honestly taken by surprise when someone puts a black cloth bag over his head and pins him face down with his arms behind his back.

Alec starts struggling before he remembers where he is and why he's here, but his assailant is strong and already has his wrists strapped firmly together before Alec's brain catches up with the familiar alpha scent surrounding him. Magnus. Magnus straddles him from behind, pressing down on him with a combination of body weight, physical strength, and alpha pheromones. Having another alpha try to dominate him like this should trigger an instinctive rage, but Alec can feel his cock stirring even as it is trapped between his body and the mattress.

After dispatching the demon and helping Alternate Clary and Jace through the portal, Magnus heads back upstairs to leave this world’s Jace and Clary to make out. 

“Magnus, there you are,” Alec says, coming over to him, “I thought I lost you.”

“No, I just had to help Clary with something,” Magnus tells him. Alec has gorgeous ivory skin, piercing blue eyes, and dark hair, and he’s just tall enough that Magnus has to look up to see his face. Some pop song comes on that Magnus can’t quite recognize, and Alec offers his hand to Magnus as he asks, “Care to dance?”

“I’d love to,” Magnus tells him honestly before continuing in a slight lie, “But I can’t. I have clients all day tomorrow, so I should head home.”

“That’s ok. Can I give you my number? That way if you want to use it you can?” Alec asks.

Magnus sorts the last of the printouts in his hand into the not entirely consistent and ever-growing piles at his feet. If there’s anything he hates about his job, it is this; culling the hundreds of photos he’s taken to the ones he can use and then culling it down again until he has a workable amount instead of five times the required number.

What makes it worse is that this hadn’t been an ordinary job, one that lasts just a few weeks or maybe a couple month. No, this job had lasted a full eight years –and then some, on and off, in the years after, though at that point it had felt less like a job and more a favour for a friend, for family– and therefore the culling process is proving to be about a thousand times worse. He’s only been at it a few days –a week at the most– and already the walls of his home office are plastered in pictures, the floor, tables and every other available flat surface completely covered over in the discards.

He's so absorbed in sticking the ones that make the cut –this round of culling at least– to the wall that he doesn’t notice he’s no longer alone in the room until there’s a warm body plastering itself up against his back, arms winding around his waist and a chin settling on his shoulder.

Your favorite colors inspired the idea of a sunset, and the photos of landscapes and cozy settings you've shared on your blog helped me to come up with the scenery. The concept is Malec on their honeymoon, cuddling on the deck of their cozy mountain cabin and enjoying the sunset. 😊

Alec's senses are on high alert — the darkness around them offering protection but also making them vulnerable to attacks from anyone who wishes to sneak up on them .  

He keeps his eyes strained on the figure that scrambles up the ladder a few feet away, and he listens and registers the sounds around him in order to be ready if needed.  

Alec knows that his decision is not only reckless, but also idiotic and, yet, he can't for the life of him regret it for a single second. 

Not when he sees the wide grin on Rafe's face when he reaches the top of the ladder. 

Not when a bubbly laughter escapes him as he goes down the slide.

Not when Rafe shrieks with delight as he lands firmly on his butt at the bottom of the slide.

Not On My Watch

Alec sighed as he sipped on his fourth coffee and it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. He downed the lukewarm liquid as his eyes ran over the files open on his desk. Alec worked for one of the biggest law firms in New York, and was one of their top lawyers, having never lost a case. As he was going over the files again, he grabbed a highlighter and started marking important sections. His client had been accused of something, they had clearly not done as there were multiple witness statements along with pictures and security footage that placed the man in another part of town when the crime was committed. Alec usually dealt with more serious cases and had been the reason a lot of criminals were now behind bars, but this man was a friend of Alec’s boss and the man put Alec on the case as a favour to his friend. Alec didn’t necessarily mind, he’d still do his best for the man, he just couldn’t quite figure out why no one was believing the evidence that they obviously had the wrong guy.

A small smile crossed Alec’s face when his phone pinged on the desk next to him and he saw his husband’s name. Alec had been married for seven years, and he always felt butterflies in his stomach when he saw or heard from his husband. Alec picked up his phone to look at the message and his heart beat happily in his chest. Magnus had sent a picture of their son covered in glitter.

Magnus stands off to the side of the throne. His hands fidget with the fine silk clothing that adorns his body. Royal Blue. The color of the Lightwoods, the reigning family  of Alicante. 

Weeks ago, Isabelle had taken Magnus to their tailors to have his robes custom made to his liking. This is why she is his favorite Lightwood sibling of the bunch.

Well… that’s not entirely true.

Magnus has been an aid to the royal family since he was very young, back when his father was their High Magister, an expert in all things arcane. He has since retired, and is living lavishly in his seaside home, leaving Magnus to take over. Everything Magnus knows, he has learned from his father. How to speak when spoken to, how to not show off his magical abilities and perhaps, most importantly, how to keep secrets.
