Hoping everyone knows my human!modern Maleficent, or in this case just Měi Lián, verse is being written because I can't get enough of thinking about it, so here are some spoilers:

To continue the themes of her being a "dark sovereign", she is the owner of a tech conglomerate. She is known to be a business shark, always out for breaking out companies and purchasing them. Gives terrible press and has rumours of being rude and even cruel to workers. You can choose to believe them or not.

Joke's on everybody because she is actually a very avid enviromentalist and her goal is to make companies involved in terrible enviromental crimes go out of business. And shame them publicly. She also really loves seeing those old men in suit cry in front of her when asking her not to leak their crimes.

To keep her mystic side, she also secrectly owns an esoteric and "occult" shop. She turns into a much better person in there because she really believes in the occult, practices martial arts and mediates frequently. It is her true little realm.

She is exceptionally lonely except for a friend or two, but even them are hard to get close. Měi Lián is known as an "Ice Princess" by anyone that ever encounters her and they even say she makes faces to children on the street and would, in fact, steal their candy. Since in this universe she won't be able to curse any to death.

Writing a character that is "unfeeling" is almost impossible because it is boring to write no reaction to threads and it is also very bad for plotting reasons. So yes, Maleficent feels things in a low level such as: she feels pleased, curious, even happy, but it isn't fully comprehended by her in any way that she actually knows those things are good. She is very angry, full of hatred and prone to doing some harmful things around her, but she also can't grasp those are bad. Her stoned heart has cracks on it so that the feelings can come through in small bits, but her perception of them is hazed by the curse placed on her by the situation she went through. She is literally cursed by a broken heart, by the realm she rules and the hatred of the slain demons that still remain in it after so many centuries of perceived injustice and war, and by the powerful lineage of her mother's clan mixing it into some sort of twisted duty. I also want to point out that despite those things shading her character, she's a good ruler and a good leader to her realm, since the curse itself is made to make her entirely dedicated to her realm foremost. Like a survival mode constantly on after she was almost slain. She also never sees her violent deeds as useless, for the sake of it. She is mostly reactive, not active, in her evil. She doesn't even understand what such evil could even be, to her it simply is as it is. For her, if you disrecpect her position, it is something that justifies her cursing you, or torturing you, or emprisioning you. Yes, "she's that petty." But it is also because to her, her position literally cost her everything. She was lonely, abandoned, ignored, even physically harmed. Those things are not felt anymore but she remembers and resented them for centuries before her sleep, and it grew into some morality and immediate response that continues on even today. Threatening her realm, her or even people she ''cares'' like (later on) Aurora, is reason enough for her to respond 1000x harder. Because she doesn't take risks, she doesn't weight good and bad, she has no concept of those and won't until her heart melts back to what it used to be.

for a long moment, he finds himself toying with the idea of invoking some sort of no talking rule. it would make seeing this contract to completion all the easier, to endure in silence. he had already come to question his morality; capturing a dragon strongly opposed his values, and not only as a witcher. this dragon-turned-woman gave no inkling of malice... thus far, at least. some of her dialogue begged the question: was she true to character, to what the lords had spun in their tales of monstrosity? to curse an innocent, and a child no less.

geralt could not fathom it, sitting across from her as he was. as the fire spat embers up towards the night's sky, even the shadows cast upon her face do not persuade him one way or the other. there was a foreboding sense of guilt resting atop his shoulders, weighing heavily. looks could be deceiving, he knew that all too well. still, despite his warring thoughts and brooding mien, he could not think to release her yet - not until he gauged her true intentions. “ ... if this is your attempt at small talk, it's a poor one, ” geralt leans forward, stoking the fire with a well-shaped stick he had found earlier. “ lady's first. ” @maleuficent.

He responded, which meant he asn't entirely neutral to her presence. Thus she grinned like a wolf in sheep's skin, knowing her time wasn't to be wasted on unresponsive hours and wine. The schackles on her wrists were useless, but she remained chained like a prisioner because the inner self wanted to see, wanted to experience for a moment what it felt like to be helpless. He had also done a great feat managing to capture her, though she was then in her Long form, distracted by a weeping willow spirit that suffered a great loss on Heaven's account. The sovereign respected that, and one day her parchment would write down the tale born out of ... boredom. Why not, when her realm was well cared for by her second? See this as fresh air, as mortal knowledge, as a long deserved break.

“ Me? I've never done anything particularly condemning. ” She lied easily, though it would be a lie only to him, not to herself. Images of a young princess came to mind, growing away from everything she'd known, doomed to die young and unloved. Maleficent felt pleased upon remembering. His fire was low, even with the stick moving it, so her fingers moved to make the flames bigger and hotter against the forests' cold. Humans, even half ones such as him, always so prone to freezing or dying. Fragile little things. She eyed his eyes and hair, remembering tales of her people; white is a story of woe, it is the whitering away of one's soul; tilting her head, she responded: “ An enemy slain here, another there. The usual. The methods might have been... painful to them, but I know you are not one to judge. Are you, hunter? ” She leaned forwards like a devil, her horns shining through the fire's glow, her teeth showing.

Among all those who serve the Demonic Realm, he alone stands at Maleficent's side not through fear or ambition, but through unwavering loyalty.

When Hēi Mó Nǚ awakened after centuries of slumber, she found herself alone, unable to understand what had become of her. Though her immortal core remained intact, the loss of her heart had left behind a hollow emptiness where emotions once resided. Confused, detached, and unable to recognize even herself, the only living presence she found was a solitary raven resting outside her chambers, its wing badly injured. She cared for the bird in silence, no feeling whatsoever, only to calm her powers down, expecting nothing in return. It was only later that she discovered the raven was no ordinary creature, but an immortal spirit who had long ago cultivated a human form and merely preferred to wander the world beneath black feathers. From that day onward, Xuán Yè never left her side.

An exceptional swordsman and master of countless weapons, Xuán Yè serves as the second-in-command of the Demonic Realm. Whenever Hēi Mó Nǚ leaves the throne or withdraws from court, he assumes authority in her stead, directing her servants, overseeing the palace, and commanding both the armies of demonic immortals and the vast legions of beasts that answer to her will. His military brilliance and calm judgment have earned the respect of every sect within the realm.

Yet, despite his fearsome reputation on the battlefield, Xuán Yè possesses an unexpectedly gentle nature. Patient, compassionate, and remarkably perceptive, he has become the voice Hēi Mó Nǚ herself can no longer hear. Where her stone heart leaves only cold logic, he reminds her of mercy. Where anger clouds her judgment, he offers restraint. He is often the only person willing to tell her when she is wrong, and perhaps the only one she allows to do so.

Although she remains distant and rarely expresses gratitude, Xuán Yè understands her better than anyone alive. He asks for nothing in return, content simply to remain at her side. For Hēi Mó Nǚ, Xuán Yè is more than her commander. Yè Qīnglíng (叶清灵) is the current leader of the Nether Serpent Sect (幽蛇宗, Yōushé Zōng), one of the oldest and most influential sects within the Demonic Realm. She is Maleficent's cousin, the daughter of her father's younger brother, and the last surviving blood relative she has.

Generations ago, Maleficent's father was the leader of the Nether Serpent Sect. However, after becoming betrothed to the future sovereign of the Demonic Realm, he relinquished his position to his younger brother, allowing the sect to remain under their family's leadership while he joined the ruling bloodline. After his brother's passing, Yè Qīnglíng inherited the position, becoming the sect's current master, already under Maleficent's rule. Unmarried and without children, she and Maleficent are the final descendants of de Yé family's lineage.

During the thousand of years Hēi Mó Nǚ remained unconscious following the events that nearly claimed her life, Yè Qīnglíng unwillingly became the closest thing the Demonic Realm had to a sovereign. Although everyone knew Hēi Mó Nǚ still lived, someone had to govern in her absence, and many sect leaders quietly attempted to elevate Yè Qīnglíng as a permanent replacement. She never sought the throne herself and consistently refused to involve herself in those political schemes, believing the position belonged to her cousin alone. Her only true interests have always been cultivation and the prosperity of her sect.

Quiet, perceptive, and exceptionally intelligent, Yè Qīnglíng has little patience for court intrigue. She prefers long years of seclusion over endless political disputes and is widely respected for remaining impartial in conflicts between the great demonic sects. While others chased influence, she focused on strengthening herself and preserving her family's legacy.

Despite everything, Yè Qīnglíng has always tried to maintain a relationship with Maleficent. She addresses her warmly, worries about her well-being, and genuinely wishes to be someone her cousin can rely on. Maleficent, however, never allows anyone that close. Though she knows Yè Qīnglíng never actively conspired against her, she has never forgotten that, during her long slumber, countless voices sought to place her cousin upon the throne that rightfully belonged to her. Ever since, she has kept Yè Qīnglíng at arm's length—never hostile, but never truly trusting her either.

For Yè Qīnglíng, that distance is a quiet sadness she has long since accepted. She continues to stand beside her cousin whenever called upon, not out of ambition or obligation, but because, despite everything, Maleficent is the only family she has left.

The sound of the breaking barrier in the frontieer was now, usual. It was always a tingling bell sound like the ones in the mortal budhist temples, when wind hit it. Maleficent knew what to expect whenever she heard it, for it was unique and mighty across all the eons, and merely sighed, told her faithful servant to be watchful over the sects and transported away to wherever the vermin had spawned this time. How a mortal managed to come here, in this land, was still something that haunted her every step; her ancestors surely were twisting in abysmal anger back in Forgetfullness River, wanting her gone for such a terrible deed. Pity for them she had not - and did not intend to - continue their lineage. It'd die with her, were she to be killed one day. Dark eyes wandered through the vines, the muddy waters, and finally landed over mixed plants and grass that surrounded the petite girl, attempting something that only the land knew - death, of course. She scowled, knowing well before she'd seen her that Liú Chénxī was putting herself into trouble, once more. A snap of the finger cut the thorns away before the mortal flesh could be wounded, and watchful demonic sovereign groaned when seeing that now, the emperor's daughter had a sword with her. Ending the enchanted vines with ferociousness.

“ How captivating. Is it a gift from your beloved? ” Maleficent teased, her voice cutting as usual, though now she approached the other. A grin was on the sharp side as she sat on a lonely rock, like a hawk. “ Did he have it bathed by those silly godmothers of yours? If not, it will never work in this place. Good for the beasts that hunt on these grounds... Poor things have been so hungry. ” While she was bound to never be able to kill the girl herself, the animals were another matter. So was the land. Thus, it almost always came to this; questions from Liú Chénxī about the Demon Realm, and answers from her chained mouth. / @sleptbound.

Known throughout the Heavenly Realm as the Three Fairies — Fauna (芳娜, Fāngnà), Merryweather (美瑞, Měiruì), and Flora (芙萝拉, Fúlúolā) —they serve as trusted attendants to the Heavenly King and are among Heaven's most respected cultivators. Though none have reached the highest realms of cultivation, each possesses considerable spiritual power and has earned a reputation for kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to the Heavenly Realm.

Fauna (芳娜, Fāngnà) is the youngest of the three. Warm-hearted and endlessly optimistic, she has an absent-minded streak and is easily distracted by the simple joys of life. She loves cooking, knitting, and tending to domestic tasks, making her the most nurturing and openly emotional of the sisters. Merryweather (美瑞, Měiruì) is the middle fairy. Stubborn, outspoken, and quick to stand her ground, she has a fiery personality and rarely backs away from a fight. Though often picky and blunt, her loyalty is unquestionable, and she is always the first to defend those she loves. The eldest, Flora (芙萝拉, Fúlúolā), naturally serves as the leader of the trio. Calm, composed, and deeply wise, she is the voice of reason among them, guiding her younger companions with patience and experience whenever disagreements arise.

Disguised as ordinary mortals, the Three Fairies attended Princess Liú Chénxī's presentation to the kingdom on behalf of the Heavenly Emperor, as immortals are forbidden from openly interfering in mortal affairs despite their existence being known. It was there that Maleficent cast her infamous curse.

Following the incident, the Heavenly Emperor entrusted the three fairies with Liú Chénxī's protection. Yet the mission carried a deeper purpose. By decree of the Turtle God, this would become their mortal trial. Stripped of all memories of their immortal lives, they were reborn as ordinary women living in the kingdom's capital. They remembered nothing of Heaven, cultivation, or their true identities, believing instead that they had always been humble peasants and that Aurora was simply their beloved niece. Like all mortal trials, they experienced life as genuine mortals—from birth until the moment fate called them to fulfill their purpose.

Their trial would be deemed complete if Liú Chénxī's survived and grew into a virtuous woman. In the end, they succeeded. Through their love and guidance, Aurora became compassionate despite the darkness surrounding her fate. Although Maleficent's curse prevented Aurora from forming deep emotional bonds with nearly anyone, the Three Fairies remained the sole exception. Even with their memories sealed, the profound cultivation that lingered within their souls allowed them to overcome the curse's influence and love Aurora as family. Their greatest flaw, however, was the overprotectiveness born from that love, rarely allowing Aurora to leave their side and scolding her endlessly bordering emotional abuse if it happened.

Maleficent despises the Three Fairies. Unable to interfere directly with Aurora, she found cruel amusement in watching Heaven's servants reduced to ordinary mortals, unaware of who they truly were. She observed them from afar, taking pleasure in the certainty that Liú Chénxī's death would one day shatter them. Yet as the years passed, that amusement turned into resentment. The Three Fairies accomplished what she believed impossible: they unraveled the vengeance she had so carefully woven and denied her the satisfaction of watching the emperor's daughter perish. For that alone, Maleficent never forgave them.

Bái Xuān (白玄) is the current ruler of the Heavenly Realm, chosen by his father to inherit the Jade Throne despite being the youngest of four brothers — a decision that fractured his family and left him with particularly strained ties to his eldest sibling. Though he now governs with the composed elegance expected of an immortal sovereign, he was once a renowned warrior, and that discipline never left him. Honor, duty, and unwavering resolve define both the ruler and the man beneath the crown. Like all true immortals, Bái Xuān completed his mortal trial before ascending. During that lifetime, he lived as a merchant and was forced to witness the woman he loved die before his eyes, learning to overcome grief and attachment before returning to the Heavenly Realm. The experience tempered him, but it also hardened his conviction that sacrifice is sometimes necessary for the greater good.

Deeply devoted to the Heavenly Realm and its people, Bái Xuān firmly believes the ancient account that the Demonic Realm abandoned Heaven in its time of greatest need. To him, demonic cultivators embody an inevitable threat, one that must be contained before history repeats itself. Under his rule, his father's policies continue unabated: mortals are taught to fear the Demonic Realm, propaganda against Maleficent spreads throughout the Mortal World, and those who ascend are increasingly shaped into warriors sworn to Heaven's cause.

Long before she became Hēi Mó Nǚ, Bái Xuān knew her as Měi Lián. Even then, he never trusted her. He viewed her presence within the Heavenly Realm with suspicion, repeatedly ordering her movements restricted and placing her under the watch of Heavenly soldiers whenever possible. Their mutual distrust eventually grew into outright hatred. To Maleficent, Bái Xuān is her greatest rival—the living embodiment of everything she opposes. While recent events have left her resentment directed more toward mortals than Heaven itself, she has never forgotten the immortal who treated her as an enemy before she ever became one.

Bái Xuān has always believed that Maleficent would one day wage war against the Heavenly Realm. Ironically, he is one of the few people whose fears are not entirely unfounded. Were it not for his overwhelming strength, she likely would have. As the bearer of the Heavenly Realm's most powerful bloodline, he stands as the only being capable of truly challenging the heir of the Demonic Realm. Their lineages are equals—the greatest of Heaven against the greatest of the demons.

Where Maleficent embodies draconic power, untamed chaos, and primordial qi, Bái Xuān represents order, purity, discipline, and divine authority. She is a ''sorceress'' feared for the unpredictable nature of her power; he is a warrior king whose strength lies in unwavering conviction. They are opposing forces in every sense, and the conflict between them lies at the very heart of the world's history.

She rolled her eyes, sitting on one of his armchairs as she would her throne, face hidden in her hand, completely embarassed for her own actions that transpassed a little while ago as his moving house transported them somewhere safe; Bombs coming down, exploding those silly mortals in soldier attires, making her almost full of glee if not for the fact that she'd made him a promise out of understanding of his kind, not entirely there yet, but still, far from human to make her considerate. A wizard, a magician. Deny and deny, things were as they were meant. His heart was aflame while hers was stoned, so it made them equal enough for her to come into the field as she traveled to collect books. “ Fierce? I was stupid. ” Maleficent spat at him, gazing at nothingness and the messyness of the place with a disgusted expression.
