Calling out Gotham and Oswald for “queer coding” is not only offensive to the LGBT community, harmful for gay men with “feminine” traits, it’s also incredibly offensive to Robin, an actual gay man.

Because your call out posts about queer coding? You just talk about his hair being purple, you talk about his taste in fashion. As if that’s some kind of indicator of someone’s sexuality. Someone being gay just means they love and are attracted to (physically or romantically) a member of the same sex, it doesn’t mean they are walking flamboyant sterotypes that carry purses and wear makeup.

Oswald’s love for his outfit came from the fact that he was bullied when he was younger for his looks and for being an outsider, it comes from his deep need to be noticed and accepted while still maintaining something special about himself that nobody has. If everyone mocks you for your looks, look amazing. He had extreme self esteem issues and you can see the progress in his character, he gets more money and he does his hair different, gets his teeth fixed and whitened, he gets an outfit that makes him feel comfortable and safe, like he is immune to the comments made to him as a child.

And this goes for Edward as well, him wearing his glittery suit holds no meaning to his sexuality. Ed is an attention seeker who wants to be noticed! OF COURSE HE WOULD DRESS FLASHY. That has absolutely nothing to do with his sexuality. And ya’ll can respond to this with “it’s just a joke” or “it’s not that deep” but it is that deep, as a member of the LGBT+ community it hurts me so deeply to see that there are people who judge others sexuality based on what they wear or how they act.

When I was a kid I was called “dyke” constantly, made fun of for having short hair or dressing “like a boy” It was really hard for me and it makes me so angry that there are people who still do this, who still decide what makes someone gay is their fashion or haircuts, is their love for fashion or makeup or love for dressing down if they are a girl, if a man takes care of his appearances he’s automatically gay, can’t you see these stereotypes are so harmful? Or do you simply not care? You just want to grasp at straws for your own headcanons while ignoring the words of an actual gay man when he says that Oswald is not gay, but he is queer. Not only are you erasing his words, you are erasing the mere possibility that Oswald could be anything other than gay. To you, there is only two sexualities. Gay or Straight, Or in your eyes, gay or homophobic.

You pretend that every single sofwald shipper is straight so you can feel justified in calling out the homophobes. When you’re the ones who are ignoring Robin, making him out to be a bad person for speaking out of his own experiences and the fact that you think he’s wrong for not confirming Oswald as gay. You are the ones acting as though his outfit and hairstyle make him gay and not to mention not wanting to fuck his sister in season 2.

Don’t pretend this is about us, because this is about you and your obsessive need for Oswald to be gay because if he isn’t gay, you don’t like him, if he isn’t gay, he becomes an icon for the writers “blatant homophobia” instead of the poster child for your headcanons

OSWALD HAD FEELINGS FOR EDWARD, This is something canon, he had feelings for Ed, he had romantic loving feelings for ED. Him having feelings for Sofia doesn’t change the fact that he had feelings for Edward. This ship doesn’t ruin your ship, it doesn’t take away your ability to ship them or to love them and enjoy them, but you need to stop acting like you’re writing the damn show, you aren’t, your headcanons, your fanfic. It’s not the show, it’s not canon and you can’t get pissed off when your canon doesn’t match what’s really going on.

For all the people who are listening to Robin say that Oswald is not gay but queer and still harassing others for shipping sofwald

For all the people who are saying Robin is ignorant in the way he speaks of his own experience being a homosexual man

For all the people who are claiming to care about the LGBT+ community but erasing any notion of Oswald (or anyone else) being anything but gay/straight

For all the people who blatantly ignore Robin, disrespect him and his word on his own character, who basically speak as if he’s an idiot who has no idea what he’s talking about….

For all the people who use their sexuality as a shield against their bullying “I’m bisexual so I can say this but anyone who ships Sofwald is homophobic and deserves to literally kill themselves” etc.

For all the people who are posting idiotic videos on instagram writing sofwald/falcobblepot down on a paper and burning it.

I hope you are ashamed of yourselves. Your actions are childish, you are bullies, you are harassing others, reblogging their posts/art to hate on them, stealing their art to deface and mock them, and you are bringing that hostility directly to the actors.

Do you want to know why Robin turned his instagram comments off? It’s not just because the homophobic attitude of people who disagreed with the idea that Oswald had feelings for Edward, it’s also because of people like you. People who want so badly for their headcanons to be true that anything else is wrong and a betrayal of some sort.

These people are not writing this show for you, they are telling a damn story and if you don’t like that story you damn well better know you don’t have to watch it. Oswald had feelings for Ed, Oswald had a crush on Ed, Oswald was in love with Ed, Ed was canonically THE FIRST person Oswald had those feelings about. Him being queer takes NOTHING away from that, it’s canon, it’s BEEN canon.

You all seem to think Oswald being queer means he’s “straight”, you think it’s some kind of conspiracy by Fox, that Robin is being held at gun point because he isn’t saying Oswald is gay.

IF OSWALD WAS GAY, THEY WOULD ALL GLADLY SAY HE WAS GAY. But nobody says it, Robin has said the term gay in reference to homophobic bashing, but he never said Oswald was gay. Wikipedia can be edited by any Tom, Dick or Harry and it isn’t monitored by anyone who works at Gotham’s studio. He’s a queer character, he is queer, queer is an umbrella for many many many different sexualities. Ya’ll need to learn that there is more to LGBT+ than gay. Because you’re constantly erasing and vilifying the rest of us.
