THEODORE NOTT & DRACO MALFOY - MOODBOARD // @thoughtnott
Draco’s relationship with Theo had always been complicated. In fact, Draco couldn’t remember a time that it wasn’t. When they were kids, they related to each other because they were the children of Death Eaters. While they never directly spoke about it, the understanding had always been there. They both knew what the other went through behind closed doors, even if they didn’t talk about what actually went on. The understanding between them grew into something more when they began finding themselves in each other’s beds. Once again, they never talked about it, but they never needed to. It was an unspoken understanding. Just like after the war when Draco began to crash in Theo’s apartment.
DAPHNE GREENGRASS & DRACO MALFOY - MOODBOARD // @ofdcphne
It seemed that no matter how rude to Daphne he was, she never seemed to get the hint. If he ignored her, she just seemed to be more insistent. If he was rude, she blatantly ignored it. At this point, Draco wasn’t sure what he needed to do in order to make her get the hint that he wasn’t exactly in the mood to have a conversation. A miracle, probably.
❂ - Theodore Nott & Draco Malfoy [ @malfoythesnake ]
If they had been in a different place in their lives or had made different decisions, Theo would have had a roadmap for how this night would end. He’d kiss Draco when he grew tired of talking, hoping his friend felt similarly done with speaking his inner turmoil. They’d end up staying on the couch or go to Theo’s bed, removing any memories of other hands with ill intent on their bodies. Not speaking of any bruises or marks they saw, taking ownership of themselves instead. But it wasn’t a different place or a time and they hadn’t done so much as mention how they used to touch at night. “You know the most.”

daphne greengrass & draco malfoy
If he told her that he didn’t like her and found her annoying, she would just assume he was being dramatic. Daphne had it in her mind that Draco and she were very good friends, and nothing would change that.

Theo hadn’t lost control of his magic since the war had ended. He could say he hadn’t been this upset in a very long time. Had he had a moment of peace in days? He’d heard Draco insult him before, lash out as a way to keep himself protected, but to have him not tell Theo about the end of his betrothal and slam the door in his face had put him at the end of his rope. Something else had to be upsetting him and Theo was too tired to deal with it. Too worn out to indulge Draco’s bad behavior and grovel until he got an answer out of him. He heard the sound of glass shattering from the other side of the door, which he knew had to be the fire whiskey bottle.
Chalking it up to Draco’s anger, Theo stalked into the kitchen intending to start on some dinner. Instead, he grabbed the nearly empty vodka bottle from the other night and poured himself a drink. It was Draco’s bottle but he found he didn’t care. He obviously didn’t value them if he broke bottles whenever he didn’t get his way.
*
Draco wasn’t sure why he was so angry with Theo. It didn’t make sense as to why he was taking this so personally. Theo was his best friend. Daphne was... A friend. If that was what Theo wanted, then he should have been happy for them, right? Draco stood on the other side of the door that he’d just slammed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to calm down. When the firewhiskey bottle shattered in his hand, Draco cursed loudly out of frustration. There was a small cut on his hand that was now bleeding, but more importantly he’d lost his alcohol.
Opening the door to his bedroom, Draco held up his hand and snapped back, “Control your magic.” If he weren’t in a state, he would have healed his hand. Now - he was afraid that he’d fuck it up. Trudging back into the kitchen, Draco ran his hand under some water, hissing as he did so, but still ignoring Theo.
thoughtnott:
Theo blinked rapidly, ignoring the urge to shrink back from Draco’s anger and just let his flatmate go drink his dinner in peace. “Then why are you asking me about it?” He questioned, focusing more on the words than his rapid heartbeat. The wall he had been successfully keeping up for years had begun crumbling the moment Daphne had followed him into the back of the bookshop, the second Theodore decided to reveal details of his past he did not share. “I expect this sort of behavior from Greg but not from you. It was Daphne.” He turned on his heel, heading back in the kitchen to make them something to eat. “But I suppose we’re not talking about either Greengrass sister in this house anymore, are we?”
*
As a child, Draco hadn’t been angry. He supposed it was the war and his involvement in it that had given him the rage that he kept locked up inside of him. Every so often, however, it boiled over. This was one of those moments. Thanks to the alcohol and his lack of occlumency, his anger was clear upon his face. Draco took another long swig from the bottle in his hand, knowing despite his anger that he couldn’t snap at Theo. The last thing he wanted to do was remind him of his father again. “I don’t know,” Draco snapped, not wanting to get farther into it. He began to sulk angrily back to his room, pausing at the door when Theo spoke. Draco’s grip on the bottle in his hand tightened and he had to take a deep breath to keep himself from doing something he’d regret. It didn’t help. “It isn’t the same,” Draco snapped coldly, before continuing to his room and slamming the door behind him.

Hermione nodded and measured out the Fluxweed, there was no real recipe so she wasn’t exactly sure how much to put, so she assumed less was better than overdoing it and causing an immediate explosion. She sprinkled the ingredient in and picked up her wand to stir the potion twice. She watched closely as it bubbled right up to the rim, gritting her teeth slightly and stepping a little bit away, but then the potion bubbled right back down to a simmer “well… that didn’t not work” she said as she crossed her arms and looked up to Draco.
“Right.” Hermione wrote down each ingredient as he said it under a column with a big ‘X’ at the top of it. “What was the closest attempt you got?”
*
Draco was hesitant to share his work with anyone else considering how many times that he’d failed. Usually when it came to this, he shelved the idea and went onto something else. This potion, however, seemed different. Especially considering that he’d even asked Hermione for her help. It was rare that he asked anyone for help. He watched her work, his gaze turning to the potion, waiting for it to be a failure. It wasn’t a complete failure. “Hmm,” Draco hummed, his brain working in over time.
He thought about her question, before answering, “Bitter root, dragon blood, and gurdyroot. There was something about it that wasn’t quite right, though. Haven’t figured out what it is yet.”
thoughtnott:
❐
He closed the door to the cold cabinet, leaning his forehead against as Draco’s voice grew colder. “I don’t think you’re idiotic at all.” He wouldn’t bring up how the use of his last name had shocked him, the clear sound of the glass hitting the counter more so. Why had he done something as stupid as turn his back on angry wix? Even if it had been Draco, Theodore knew better. But it seemed that what his day had been, making a series of idiotic mistakes. Him and not Draco. He sighed and turned around, following his friend out of the kitchen. “Gabrielle did lock me in a bedroom.”
*
He wasn’t sure why he was so angry. Perhaps it was the leftover anger that he had from being dragged to a party where he clearly wasn’t welcomed. Draco had done a lot to repent for the things that he had done but 75% of the people at the party still hated him. He didn’t care what Theo did with his time or whom he spent it with. Draco trudged to his bedroom, feeling a lot like his friend who was usually the one who did the escaping. He turned on his heel outside of his room to face Theo once more. “I don’t care to hear it. Nor do I care to hear about what you do with your time.” He took a swig from the open bottle in his hand, wincing slightly at the burn. “Oh? Did she put her lipstick on your collar too or was that Greengrass?”
thoughtnott:
Theo shrugged then slowly drank from his glass until he was due for another refill. “You’re always a dick.” He said plainly, retreating as far back against the corner of the couch as if he could disappear into the fabric. It was strange, sitting on a piece of furniture that he owed. Not the first big purchase he had bought himself. That had been his bed but it was certainly been one the first. He ran a hand over the fabric of the air, pulling at a loose thread. Theo had gotten it second-hand or third, he wasn’t sure. It was certainly old but not an antique. He loved the thing, something he would tell Draco if it wasn’t such a ridiculous statement.
To hear that Draco thought he wasn’t going to come back while sitting on a purchase of his own was impossible to understand but it had been a day of people speaking to Theodore and him not comprehending him. “It was to study under one of Libatius Borage’s students. I couldn’t turn that down.” Face flushed from consumption, Theo might have said he was tired of talking but he had missed Draco in the three months he was gone. Their friendship was unique, his day had been endless, and he was steadily getting tipsier at an alarming rate. Processing with Draco instead of locking himself away. It was an old tactic. One he hadn’t used since they were still in school and it usually involved much less talking.
Theo was still pulling at the loose thread as he brought his glass to his mouth. He spoke with it resting against his lips, mumbling through his sentences. “She won’t. I told her too much. She…I’ve never seen her look like that. I raised my voice and I…She doesn’t fear anything, I think. Except maybe me now. I don’t know how someone lives like that, Draco. I just wanted her to understand that we’re not living in times where it pays off to be consciously ignorant.”
Theo supposed this had been the relief he had been seeking when he opened up accidentally to Daphne. There were no extraneous details to explain to Draco, no need to go into anything that had actually occurred to him. He didn’t know much about Lucius Malfoy besides what he had observed. It was enough for him to grow nervous in the older man’s presence. To know why Draco had stayed with him for so many nights. To only complaining about Draco taking his bed when it truly started to impede his life. There was a question on Theo’s lips. Something he didn’t think he knew the answer to. “Have you ever told anyone about your father?”
*
There weren’t many people who Draco could sit down with and feel comfortable talking to. In fact, Theo was probably the only person that Draco just sat with. Sometimes they sat in complete silence with nothing but the other’s company. It was one of the reasons that Draco had initially started coming around. With Theo, he didn’t have to say anything for his friend to understand. If something was wrong, they didn’t have to talk about it. Draco didn’t like talking and he knew that Theo didn’t either. That being said, the only time they really talked was the late evenings like this when there was a bottle of alcohol between them.
“Hmm,” Draco replied to Theo when he explained where he had gone and why he couldn’t turn it down. If it was Draco, he would have likely done the same thing, so he couldn’t argue with Theo’s reasoning. The timing - however - was a bit too suspicious. “A goodbye would have been nice. Not just a note. But I understand,” he finally conceded lowly.
Daphne Greengrass was the last thing that Draco wanted to talk about and she’d been the last when they were dating too. However, he knew that Theo had a couple of things to process and that was why he merely listened, his glass to his lips as he sipped on his alcohol. He doubted that Daphne would recall the situation after a week had passed, but he wasn’t going to argue again with his friend. “Just give it time,” Draco murmured, before taking another sip of his drink.
His expression changed, however, and it felt like the tone in the room shifted the moment that Theo brought up his father. For years, his boggart had taken the form of Lucius Malfoy. If he hadn’t done Voldemort’s bidding, he knew that his boggart would still be without a doubt his father. Downing the liquid in his glass, Draco made a face, but mumbled, “No. I accidentally revealed a bit too much to Astoria, but there was veritaserum involved. Otherwise, no.” He poured some more of the liquor before asking Theo, “You?”
mcorner:
Sometimes Michael lounged when he waited for Terry. Sometimes he went through the cabinets in the exam room to piss him off. Today, he just sat. He always took his shirt off, knowing their spats over clothing getting in the way of procedure would just prologue the process. He’d never be called a model patient but Michael was fucking trying his hardest. Terry should see that. He had toned his animosity over the examining, and the touching of his back down since his kidnapping. Just wanting to get these dates with his old mate over as soon as possible now. He thought he had it bad with the Carrows but he was way fucking wrong. Redeemers blew the Death Eaters out of the water any day. At least the most recent time, he’d gotten to St. Mungo’s faster.
Since his last injury, his muscle guarding had worsened. Locking up at slightest wrong stretch or phantom touch. His mood grew fouler the hours leading up to his appointments so he tried to offset it. Actually going to bed, stretching like he was ordered to because hell if he was spending one more season on the bench or on bed rest. It didn’t make a difference. The only way he got through the hour of bullshit was a script. He answered Terry’s questions, stayed as still as he could and glared his frustration against the wall. It worked. Sort of.
The only thing not planned for was Draco Fucking Malfoy walking through the door. “Waiting for Boot. You know where he is?” Michael didn’t hide any of animosity, glare sizing the former Slytherin up the moment he walked in. “You hide his body in a closet or something so you could take his shift? Let me warn you right now, I’m a real fucking delight.”
*
There were times when Draco offered particular patients another healer to see. There were people that he ran into that didn’t particularly have the best opinion of him and he didn’t blame them. That was why he always tried his best to put them at ease. To find someone that could help them that they’d be more comfortable with. He’d tried it with Hermione and she refused and it had only made the situation worse. When he walked into the exam room to see Michael, he knew that it wasn’t going to be pleasant. No matter how hard he bit his tongue and tried to be civil. However, today he didn’t have anyone else to offer. Everyone was up to their neck in cases.
“Boot isn’t here today,” Draco replied, knowing that Michael was more than likely going to fly off the handle. He’d been known for his outbursts. Draco didn’t particularly want to be on the other end of them. Draco didn’t, however, reply to Michael’s questions of whether or not Draco had done something to Terry. They were coworkers, but it was rare that Draco spoke to his coworkers unless necessary for a case. Looking down at the file in his hands, Draco murmured, “I can’t offer you another healer this afternoon, I apologize. I can handle your appointment today or I can reschedule you for someone else.”
booksandcleverness-arc:
Hermione took a look at the cauldron for another moment then pulled a notebook out of her cloak and jotted down a few notes about the current concoction. The temperature it was it, it’s colour, it’s smell. Things to keep in mind for the next batch. “Got to try something, right? I don’t like the idea of getting covered in potion.” she said, reaching to the Fluxweed and measuring out a small amount.
She glanced to Draco as he spoke, glad that they were making conversation. One worry she’d had that they were going to stand brewing in silence all evening. She looked at his face, he was clearly getting to the end of his tether with this potion, she knew exactly how it felt to put in so much energy to something that didn’t work out, it was practically heartbreaking. So she nodded “Good. I always work better under pressure. We’ll figure something out. What have you tried that were the massive failures? So I know what to steer clear of?”
*
There was a long period of time before Hermione had showed up that Draco had thought about cancelling. He was nervous to spend time in a closed quarter with her, especially considering the history they had. The fact that she’d agreed at all had surprised him after the first encounter that they’d had at St. Mungo’s. Now that she was there and they were beginning to work, he found himself thankful for her brain. For her eyes. Maybe they’d actually get somewhere. Draco nodded after a moment in agreement, “Nor do I. Suppose it’s worth a shot.” He watched as she measured out the ingredient.
They were making conversation and it was more comfortable than he’d initially believed it would be. However, Draco still kept his distance. He’d made sure that his mark was covered by both a charm and his shirt. Thinking for a moment, he replied, “Lacewing flies, dandelion root, and jewelweed are all a no. They exploded each time.”
ofdcphne:
“I guess that counts as a hobby but that sounds so academic,” she said a little distastefully. It reminded her too much of their classes back in Hogwarts, maybe she’d understand if he was a Ravenclaw but didn’t he want to do something a little more fun? She’d let it go for now but was already mentally making plans in her head to show up at his apartment with a puzzle later. Even though he often tried to shut the door in her face when she popped by unnanounced he still had a hard time shaking her off when she showed up. She’d get puzzle day.
“You might as well be, you never stop by,” Daphne complained. He could call it not hiding since he left the house but since he didn’t really do anything besides going home and going to work it sure felt an awful lot like hiding. “It’d be good to get out of the house, have a little fun and relaxation time. I just came back from France not too long ago and it was so relaxing. Really pepped up my spirit. Trust me, it’ll be good, we can even do it nearby if you don’t want to travel far.”
*
“I prefer activities that are useful to my time. This helps with work,” Draco answered Daphne truthfully. He wasn’t rude about it; he was just telling her the truth. He didn’t have many hobbies that didn’t involve work. He didn’t hang out much with anyone other than Theo. Even when they hung out, they barely spoke. It was mostly silence. Daphne tried to hang out with him, but Draco often tried to shut the door in her face. She talked far too much for his liking.
He shook his head, “I leave my apartment when I have to.” He knew the argument wouldn’t matter to Daphne. She’d still try to force him into having fun in some ridiculous way. Like a vacation. “Work would never let me. I don’t have time to take off,” he lied.

Gabi felt as though she’d made a positive step forward in this fledgling friendship. It certainly helped now that she actually knew his name. Now she could actually fully pick him out in a crowd, ask him things, convince him to get out more. British boys were so reclusive. She had no idea why.
While he met with one of the Aurors she let the department know she’d been heading to lunch and made sure that everything would be ready and waiting for the people who would need it. How this department ever functioned without an assistant, she truly didn’t know.
“Did eet go well?” She asked as he returned.
–
*
He didn’t know why he was attempting to strike up a friendship with Gabrielle. There was just something about her that struck him and it wasn’t just her obvious beauty. Draco had learned to look past that after their first encounter. He took his papers with a nod and headed off to the meeting that he was due at. The meeting passed like usual. He got the usual looks, but powered past it.
When he finished, he went back out to the front desk to collect Gabrielle so that they could grab some coffee. “It went as well as expected,” he replied with a smile. “It wasn’t awful. I’ve had worse meetings. Shall we go?”

“There is a reason I have a supply of wine in the store,” she said with a chuckle, taking a sip of said wine. “But I can’t complain. I’m doing well. Like, better than I thought I would. Having a both magical and muggle store was the best idea.” She wasn’t sure about it at first but it had been the best idea she had. Almost half her business was muggle. “But enough about me. How are you? How’s your mother? Anything new? Do I need start designing my dress for your wedding?”
*
Draco chuckled at Pansy’s response and held his drink up to her. She had always been smart. He couldn’t deny her that. Having wine to combat the customers was an incredibly intelligent decision. He took a sip of his drink, before murmuring, “I’m glad that you’re doing well. You deserve it, Pans.” He meant every word. Draco’s expression soured, however, at the mention of his impending wedding. “I’m fine. Mother is fine. No need for a dress. The wedding isn’t going to happen.”
