“ JUST BECAUSE I’M playing the part of your boyfriend for the time being doesn’t mean it’s got to be a perfect portrayal. so i forgot that your birthday is next week— sue me. my people will make sure that ‘dhruv varma throws surprise party for hussein heiress’ is splashed over the front cover of every credible newspaper. ” he knew that along with helping him fake a clean up because she was nice, what samaira was interested in was getting her parents off her back. frankly he didn’t understand why the hussein couple were hampering her to settle down and get married. it was such a… medieval way of thinking. dhruv was of the ‘live and let live’ school of thought. it went without saying that sometimes his way of living wasn’t exactly accepted well— by his father, mostly. but here he was, having dinner on a monday evening, with a girl befitting of the varma patriarch’s standards. frankly he would much rather be spending his time back at a party in mumbai; completely wasted, as they called it. at least he wouldn’t be tempted to strangle the maître d’ for amusement.
IT WAS THE beginning of a long evening, and Riya was already bored with her present company. It was of course a Monday which meant that it was the weekly ‘catchup’ she played with her mother. Sometimes the young heiress didn’t understand why she kept up the farce, however a small part of her actually enjoyed having ‘mummy-daughter’ time. Even if most of the time was spent listening to her bitch about her friends, lecture Riya on her lack of ambition and insult her ex-husband every chance she got. Currently the ex-Malhotra matriarch was complaining about the weather in some isolated country as though it was to blame for her complexion looking less than pristine, and Riya was ready to shoot herself in the head, or better yet, the maître‘d for some entertainment. She took another sip of her wine, and looked around for something, someone to come and save her. Unfortunately no one looked ripe for the taking... until she spotted a certain actor and his facade of a girlfriend. Signalling the waiter over, the young woman had a scotch sent ordered for him, and a strawberry daiquiri ordered for her, not that Riya particularly cared whether Samaira would enjoy the drink or not. Riya just wanted to be entertained. Ignoring her mother for the moment, she advised the waiter to just mention that he should savour the drink. As the waiter walked away, her mother looked at her curiously, and wondered what she was doing now. “Oh nothing maa, just making sure that someone learns how to enjoy his evening with someone he doesn’t particularly like.”
