Hmm life needs more entertainment...
"Really?" he says more interested. "Her eyes were darker? Explain to me what she did" he asks. He takes out a fake badge "The first part was just a check up" he lies. "I’m here to help kids in foster care"
"Well she walked into the house, and it was really slow. You know?" Malina said, speaking with such believably, "It took a while for her to get from the door to her room. Her arms were limp at her side too, and her head hung like if it was too heavy for her body." Malina looked at the batch upon his hand. No doubt it was a fake. "Protect against what? What's going on?"
"Any strange activity with the kids?" he asks.
"Oh dear, yes!" Malina decided to play along, "A couple of days ago, Sarah walked in with this really weird look on her face. Her eyes were darker then usual, and she was all dirty."
"No reason" he shakes his head. "How about sulfur? Have you smelt that around your house?" he asks. Sulfur indicates demons around the areas, basic things he’s learnt.Â
"Um...no?" Perhaps he was just a crazy man..
"Oh yeah" he peeks inside, it looks pretty normal though he’s heard of a large population of monsters roaming around this area. He was never safe as an orphan, he wonders if they are too. "Ever seen anything suspicious here?" he asks.
"Um... not that I can remember?" Malina now started to wonder about the guy. Was he a police officer out to get the landlords? If so she should probably tell him about that fat man, but then again the children and her had no other place to go. "Why do you care?"
He raises an eyebrow when he turns around “Wrong house” he lies. “I was expecting to hear one of my friends, but once I heard a girl’s voice I figured that it wasn’t my friend” he lies again. “But you are?” he asks with a flirtatious smile.
"Clearly," Malina said resting herself against the door frame, "This is an orphanage house. Unless your friend's an orphan, and homeless, you won't find him here."
Flynn knocks onto the door to see figure out if anybody is inside. He’s interested in some things that are in this house. Shit someone’s inside he thinks. “No one” he calls out turning around but hears the door creak open.
"You can't really expect me to believe you when you answer right back to me, right?" Malina said as she opened the door.
Who's there?
"Yeah, well… it’s what I believe in so…" He shrugged. He couldn’t help but be passionate about it. It was the way he was raised and from his perception he didn’t just have faith that those Gods existed, he believed with every fiber of being they did because he believed he witnessed and experienced their existence. Other sects of people might think it’s all in the drugged up states of minds they put themselves in during rituals, but to Flotsam, this was very first hand reality.Â
But then she condoned the brother/brother relationship and that was probably a first since Sparky. It made him feel weirdly suspicious because he simply never trusted anyone in the world but Jet, or Sparky. “Well thanks… I think. You have to be a lot braver and lot thicker skinned to be what people don’t approve of. But living in America even in New Orleans and being Voodooist isn’t completely accepted either way, much less the me and Jet thing. But we’re good. We don’t fucking give a rat’s ass about what people think.”Â
Malina thought of herself as some sort of scientist. She liked to learn things, but never question. And if at any point she did question something, it would be to back up the subject. "And in any case you shouldn't give a 'rat's ass' about what others think." She responded, "The people of this world are very ignorant, and it takes a lot for them to change their ways of thinking, which is why many have given up on." This went on from the beginning of time til today. People thought slavery was the right thing to do, then everyone figured out that black people were the equal. "Everyone always think they know what's 'right', and more often then not it ends with a bunch of white people with big noses being burnt in a chamber." She knew that if she'd said that to anyone else, they'd probably think her rude, but it was the truth.
"So I'd rather that every person is correct in whatever way they think of the world. We may all meet salvation, or perish but then again we all lived the same cruel and ignorant life." Malina had never known what it was like to love someone close to you. Most her entire life she's lived in an orphanage with people who abused of her, both emotionally and physically, but unlike others she did not let them mentally fuck her up. That was all hers, and she made good in letting them know so.Â
"You serve them well." He answered simply. "Your life is duty to their will and that’s a great a honor Malina. We wouldn’t exist if not for the Gods."Â
Flo shook his head as if what she was saying was almost absurd. “No. This isn’t just serious or about comprising and living a fairy tale happily ever after Malina. This isn’t fall in love with your high school sweetheart and cross your fingers and hope for the best and if he cheats you when you let yourself go and get fat and things just don’t work out. This isn’t a promise you can break because you change your mind. Haitian voodooists don’t even have marriages between people for that. Catholics stop that. Voodoo marriage is between a lwa and a person. That’s a God choosing you for service and it can happen with male lwa’s and men or women or female goddesses and women. It’s never been about gender in voodoo. It’s always been that way. I just happen to be in the lucky position that Jet asked me to take our relationship to new level here. And I’m lucky I love him and I already know he’s my soul mate anyway. I mean if this God in me wanted to choose someone else this would not be of my will and usually that’s just tough shit. You do your duty to the God’s no matter what earthly heart-string you have. A God can even choose someone who is already in a union and that’s just tough shit too. Union over. You belong to the God now. But, it’ll never feel that way to me and Jet. That’s why I think He chose to be in me for Jet. He knew we’d have better strength and he’d have no resistance and the skills we have together is gonna be cooler than Voltron when we all work together. But, I gotta admit. God or no God… Jet asked me and I feel really fucking loopy and gushy over that. But when I realized Congo Savvane wasn’t going to protest and wanted this union too? Oh my god Malina. Oh my god in every way. What kind of honor that is to think a God would look at my brother like that? My lover? It can’t go wrong. The will of the God’s happen either way. In different circumstances and someone tried to fight it, that’s like… treason to the God’s Malina. You don’t turn you back on the Gods. You just don’t. Not if you want to live.”Â
"Oh." Malina said, thinking about how someone who was not within the religion might feel towards that kind of arrangement. It was like having no control over your life what so ever. Not being able to enjoy your life by your own will, but rather following the ways of someone else. It was not much different then back in the medieval times, or even now in some of Europe and Asia. Living the life of a royal. That's the way that she saw it, but then again if the God placed them with their soul mates there should not be any problems. "That's a rather interesting religion you have here." She said, "Personally I don't believe in anything being wrong with who one falls inlove, despite how closely related a person can be. Which is why I understand why your God probably accepted both of you being together. In ways, from what I have learned from you, you guys complement one another. It's hard to be in an actual relationship with someone else like so. Not something that you see very often in this life." She couldn't help but laugh. He was so passionate when he spoke of his brother, and his god.Â
"…Why? What happened?"
That landlord is the biggest dick!
"Um yeah really." Flo started to get this sort of way too excited childlike way about him as he spoke. "Um, to us… well to I guess to explain it proper to the ignorant over there." He winked teasing her about not knowing, "I mean first a while back during a ritual I had a God enter me. See, in my community, I’m a Lwa now. I have to take care of this God. You see? And I like to think he picked me because of Jet. He and Jet have a lot of strengths I see the same. It makes me feel really cool to think Jet could cause something this cool to happen to me. The union stuff, like the ritual is for voodooists only though. It’s magic. There’s no such thing as divorce in our community. It doesn’t exist. This is magic bond. And it’s really special. And very serious. Because it’s not just me and Jet, it’s a God’s will. It’s so fucking cool Malina. See? You should have fucked us while you had the chance."Â
"Ignorant!" Malina scoffed, but then listened closely to every word that came out of his mouth. If there was something Malina loved more then reading, it was learning about religions from a primary source. His enthusiasm added to her delight on the topic, and she couldn't help but grin at him. "How do you take care of the God?" She asked her curiosity going viral, "And how are there no divorces? What if something bad happens and then the two can no longer get along. They can no longer be together? Or want to? I mean I understand that it's serious business, but some plans go wrong." Malina rolled her eyes at him, then faked regret, "Oh, damn. And here I thought I still had time."
"Well the Gods obviously have better taste in men than you. I’ve been a Lwa for some time now and me and Jet are getting bonded up. So the the whole world can fuck off now at their sneery nosed shit when they realize me and Jet have better sex than them even though we’re brothers because now, Congo Savvane not only chose me as his vessel but Jet for his union. In other words, Me and Jet are getting married. Just voodoo style"Â
"Yeah well we can't all be sluts, and hoes. We have to keep diversity up for as long as we can," Malina said towards his comment on her bad taste in man, "Really? Wow that's cool." She's never met those who believed in all of this stuff. She knew they were out there, but not that she'd ever get to meet one. " Excuse my curiosity, but what's the difference between a normal wedding, and a voodoo wedding? To you guys at least."
"Well if it isn’t the girl who never fucked me with a strap." He laughed. "Yeah, that’s what a loa is. In my community" he began obviously separating his kind from others, "That’s a really big honor to have a God choose you." Â
"Well if I didn't do your brother, what exactly made you think I'd do you?" Malina responded, raising his eyebrows at him but smiled. Boys. "And who exactly did the spirit choose?"Â
"So, anyone out there know what marrying a lwa is?"Â
The spirit of the Haitian Voduo?
If I was someone else, I'd burn this house down.
Kiara couldn’t feel anything anymore. She was cold and broken. Her mind was shattered and her heart was beating almost too fast. At the female voice she looked up, letting out a sob and fresh tears started to spill over. If it was a guy she would have shrunk away. Fearing him doing the same. “N-no.” Kiara stuttered through another sob as she almost gasped for breath through her raw throat from crying.
"Who did this to you? Do you think he followed you?" Malina asked, turning towards the way she came running for looking for any sign that anyone was running their way. There was no one. "Hey. You’ll be okay." Malina said softly. She had been through this long enough to know that she was going to be alright. It may not feel that way to her, but she was really lucky it was only this time. "Do you want to talk about it?" Malina said, doing her best to stay somewhat away from her. This was not new territory for her, and so she gave her space. Space to think, space to cry, and deal with the dryness on her chest. So Malina sat down near her, and placed a jacket over her.Â
