Sometimes when I’m drunk and my guard is down I think of 1970s abomination, SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (1978). With the Bee Gees as the Hendersons, Billy Preston as Sgt. Pepper, Steve Martin as Maxwell Edison, Alice Cooper as the Sun King, Peter Frampton as Billy Shears, Aerosmith as Future Villain Band, and more, all part of a parade of cheerful atrocities. It makes you wonder if the 1970s actually existed—if they really ever existed or if that period somehow got mixed up with someone’s fever dream.
It’s the ultimate “What were they thinking?” movie. There’s something endearing about the Bee Gees here, blissfully unaware of how awful they are in their fruity Sgt. Pepper suits.
