Bronx 10 miler
Hey guys !! So today was my third completed race of the NYC Five Borough Series. Now all I have left is the Staten Island Half marathon and the NYC Half marathon. I have ran these races with team for kids the first three. I actually am running with only NYRR for the staten island half. I finished today's ten mile course in 1:37:09. Which to me it a great accomplishment, there were so many more hills then I expected today. 1 mile My first mile flew by! I wasn't even thinking about anything then, the course was the same start and finish so when they had the one mile marker, on the other side of the street they also showed the nine mile marker. Which is pretty cool, until a few miles in, then it's basically obnoxious. (Any fellow runners out there, you know what I mean when you hit the wall, and now the numbers start messing you up) 2 mile 18.55 great! Right on course still sub 10. The second mile was what felt like the longest time of my life! It was nice to run on the streets and see all the stores and cops, and all the traffic we caused just because we had a time mile stretch blocked off. (Really 5 miles one way, 5 the other) 3 mile The third mile is where I realized, the traffic lights ! I noticed that I had a green arrow to go straight. Now I'm running wondering, well which way would you go? Haha thag entertained me for about half a mile. 4 mile The hills, oh god the hills. Now at the the fourth mile, from previously realizing all the traffic lights, sadly I've hit every red light possible. Never got to see a yellow light only red. Now, I like science classes seeing that was my previous career path. Laws of physics says what ever goes up, must go down. Well, that's not the case for the map of the Bronx half marathon series. What ever goes up must have the smallest down and level out. As a runner I do not appreciate this, all I'm thinking about is the apple at the end. I want my free apple. 5 mile Okay mile 5 half way, so I look to my right, the race finishers are coming through ! Phenomenal there zooming by. Now I realize, I can do that. I'm breathing good so I figure ok! Let me get into a rythym open my stride breath normal and run. "Great this is working I'm paced pretty fast from before. Passing a lot of people. Oh and there it comes too many people I can't stay at my pace my groove is gone" I go back into a slower pace. 6 mile Ok! 6 down 4 to go! There's no crowd :( so we get to a tunnel I see about 4 people up top sp I start cheering the runner start cheering we pick up morale. Cool! I started that. Then is when I realized "I'm going to blog about this race" and here I am writing about it. 7 mile One of my running buddies decides to take off and see what he can do for the last 3 miles. Okay, bye! I turn back to my other running buddy and say ok after this it's just 18 minutes and we're done! 8 mile This mile for some reason went so fast, maybe it was me cursing out the hills in my head but this one wasn't so bad. 9 mile Okay! One mile to go! One of the coached for team for kids was positioned right at the 800m mark which was awesome so I start my runners kick and go! Then I get tired and relax for about 20s. Then I go go go again! Finish! Running through the finish line is the greatest! You get to (stop running) just kidding it's a great accomplishment and seriously a great feeling. Plus yiu get a great medal to show off what you did!. I got my apple and the day was great! The weather wasn't so cold anymore and couldn't have been more proud of my accomplishment.
