Taken the inspiration from the Belgian new beat phenomenon, Walter Van Beirendonck's AW1989-90 collection was named Hard Beat. It had a a lot of references to the rave scene, some designs even had a Sony Walkman incorporate. It was the first time Walter used masks, which became a iconic & recognizable item for the brand.
