Jon Jones, the Next Lay and Pray Champion out of Greg Jackson's Camp?
I sat at our local Ham's tonight across from the manfriend and was trembling with excitement. I have been waiting for this 'bad blood feud' to happen (for what seemed like) forever now.
And then it happened. I was so exhilerated and thought each round, up until the third at least, that someone was going to get knocked out! Rashad did fairly well against the reach and then it began to be what I call, "Huggy bear time" - around when both Suga and Bones decided they were going to play a game of mercy in the middle of the Octagon.
Slowly, I began to notice all Jones wanted to do was knock Rashad out with one clean hit. He had multiple chances to finish Evans but didn't.
So, I sat back and became thoroughly disinterested, despite the clamor of the drunkards swaying and shouting about how they knew Jones was going to win all along around me.
Why didn't Jones finish the fight? Was his plan to either knock Rashad out clean with one of his unnecessarily flashy flying knees or to win via decision? Why was there so much hype, but so little done in terms of 'vengeance'?
I truly hope that Jones does not fall into the rut that so many of the Jackson fighters seem to, and that is as many have termed it, "Lay and Pray"; eeking out decisions without doing much. Granted, this performance was not without it's highlights, it still was, I feel, far below the normal caliber of Jones' (and Rashad's) prowess. Too many times I was left on the edge of my seat, waiting for one or the other to be TKO'd, and in the end, left the restaurant before I even heard the decision.
I was wholly disappointed. What did you guys think of the main event fight tonight? Do you think Bones is going to become the Jackson MMA Champion prototype of decision-only wins?
