WE'RE UNDER RECONSTRUCTION, SORRY FOLKS
END OF 2013
Hello you lot, How ya doing?
As you all know (OR we hope you know), the end of 2013 is slowly around the corner and we want you're fantastic opinion on a few things. We've been a little bored over the break, so we've found ourselves wondering what your opinions are of this years sounds - you know, help us out a little.
We want to know:
Best album of 2013 Best Artist of 2013 Best newcomer of 2013 Best band of 2013 and Who to watch in 2014
So go on raid your soundcloud, your youtube 'to watch later' folder or your new spotify playlist to see if you can answer these bad boys. Get involved, we're intrigued to hear what you think..
THE TIN PIGEONS- BUTTON UP YOUR COAT
Nice winter warmer to cheer you up, get your feet tapping and sing along.
THE TIN PIGEONS
Brrrrrrr, it's pretty nippy outside but there's nothing a cup of tea, a biccy and a good old tumblr post to read can't fix. In celebration to the windy wintery weather we've picked a band from a little rural area called Stamford, their name being The Tin Pigeons.
We've seen this lot a couple of times and their stage presence is pretty impressive. Imagine Jake Bugg cross with Mumford and Sons and you've hit the nail on the head. This folk music collaboration between friends and brothers is bringing a nice upbeat tone to the typical folk music we're use to. Their story and location just adds to the homeliness and natural melodies of their music. With songs like Button Up Your Coat and Old Rosie, its hard not to love these cheeky chappies. With their acoustic instruments and their foot tapping beats, its enough to bring a smile on anyones face. The only downfall to these lot would be they still have a long way to go, they still seem slightly unprofessional and confused when it comes to certain tones put together but there's nothing some practice wouldn't solve. If we're honest, we've got to be a little bit mean to them as the lead singer dumped our flat mate - sorry!
Apart from that, we're excited to see what else The Tin Pigeons bring.
CAJUN DANCE PARTY- AMYLASE
Come on, lets reminisce and listen to the old stuff because it gives us something to hold on too.
CAJUN DANCE PARTY
We're sitting here reminiscing about the 'good' old days - well some not so good- and one of the MAM team declares how she used to sit in alley ways with her best friends and her lads (we promise this isn't as bad as it sounds).. Turns out those days consisted of cider, indie boys, making insults up such as 'weasel' and 'racoon' (apparently the preferred was animals) and listen to bands such as Cajun Dance Party. With the summer sun shining down this sounds like a pretty sweet time but despite this, it made us think. What on earth happened to CDP?
They're the ultimate indie classic, with an upbeat tone and an interesting quirkiness from the lead singers voice. We're still shocked to this day at how a band with such talent has fallen of the music radar. Of course their split - which wasn't announced- caused them all to go their separate ways or to form other bands such as Yuck, but why we've all stopped playing their insane tracks such as Amylase, The Race or Colourful life? we don't know. We remember back in the day, having the colourful life lyrics on our myspace pages and being teens who could relate to their laid back, we just wanna be free spirits vibe. So maybe their music - for us personally- is better to stay in the past. It reminds us of the good old days and it gives us something to hold onto, making us forget about essays, student finance and whether or not our current misses /mr is cheating on us - ahhhh the good old days when there was none of those worries.
So looks like this bunch isn't coming back but it doesn't stop their music being pretty damn sweet. So who cares if you're not in fashion, conforming to current standards by listening to the latest indie bands with their mullets and pvc. Be original, get you're old CDS out, go on youtube, raid your old ipods, lets get these older tunes back into our lives. Would be a shame not too.
RESCUE ROOMS
Afternoon you absolute babes, sorry it's a late one. But we're talking about venues today and not just any music venue. A venue so indie classic that hipster kids feel royally at home there, a venue where rock the casbah could be their theme tune- if only they had one, a venue so cosy we could call it home. We're obviously talking about Nottinghams gem and cheap drinking, great music establishment Rescue Rooms.
I mean we've had our fair share of night outs, gigs, drunken dad dancing in this bar and its safe to say its one of our favourites. Their main room - where the gigs are held - is spacious and pretty much a standard room for gigs. However the vibe is always a good one. There's barely any 14 year old girls screaming and boys trying to mosh - despite the band being folk music and its pretty fucking (scuse our french) ridiculous moshing to some banjos - standard youngster behaviour. But we're not praising Rescues for this, we're impressed by the sheer talent that walks through there doors on a monday night. Monday night being their acoustic night. It's became quite the tradition for us at MAM to sit our skinny arses on Rescues sofa like chairs and ruin our livers on their happy hour drinks whilst sobbing to a random bands acoustic versions of Oasis. But you know what? we wouldn't have it any other way. With the likes of Jake Bugg having played the exact same club nights before he got as big as he is today, we're pretty damn sure we're getting an exclusive to the new upcoming talents of our society. Our ears have already been blessed with the likes of Connor Spray, Leetabix, J P Cooper, The Gorgeous Chans... the list goes on and I'm sure we'll be introducing this lot to you ASAP ROCKY.
So with this in mind, take a ganders around Rescues, It's got a chill, nice and relaxing vibe to it and with such good talent, its basically a free gig- no god awful karaoke singing wannabes, perfect!
Also whilst your there, make sure you check out their website for gigs and other set nights. Club Tropicana is a pretty decent night too if you're into classic 80's/90's etc music which Dog is Dead DJ. So again, pretty damn decent. It's nice to see such talented folk collaborating and bringing together a kick ass night for the likes of us snotty students. TA' FO' THAT.
ONEGIRLONEBOY - DIRTY TOWN
Check this absolutely astonishingly mesmerising vocals and video out, too good to miss.
ONEGIRLONEBOY
Kicking off this old wintery december afternoon with a band who recently followed us on our twittorrrrrrr account. We’ve checked them out and you know what we’re rather intrigued, they are something else. So with that, we would like to introduce you wonderful people to OneGirlOneBoy.
Like their name, the band consists of a male and female ( duh )- Natasha Miller and Chris Howarth- who live, write and produce music together. By the looks of it, this is one power couple we’re going to need to watch. Their music illuminates and oozes sexual tension, emotion and a pure desire to move around like you’ve got no control over your body. Their voices are mesmerising, they work incredibly together. The harmonies and tones are like nothing we’ve listened too. They’ve said themselves that their music ‘makes you believe every word, note and hook” and we couldn’t agree more, it really does grab your attention. With this in mind it didn’t come as a shock to us that they received plays on BBC introducing. But what did come as a shock to us is how we had never heard of such a talented pair.
We’re absolutely gutted we missed them at Dot to Dot fest, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this insane duo will make an appearance at next years nottingham festivals. We hope you all join us and help raise this band to the highest of success, they sure as hell deserve it.
We've been a little quiet recently, you know with hectic student lives, moving back to our small towns and having insane deadlines to catch up on. But we're back with a vengeance and we're going to be spamming your feeds for the next month because quite frankly, we all know leaving uni to go back home is an anti climax and we want to make this holiday slightly more interesting. Not that we're scrooges or anything..
so on that note, i hope you're looking forward to our new posts.
UPDATES SOON
W A N D E R L I N G S - Swingin
Hello psychedelic, hypnotic, hip swinging and jiving melody of words. Please stay in my life and send me off on a trippy dream like state.
W A N D E R L I N G S
After having yet another cheeky weekend off, which yes did include a few too many cider and blacks. We're back - waaahoo- to start this glorious december with yet another banging post on one of our own, a Nottingham based band called (drum roll please...) W A N D E R L I N G S.
With their straight out the 60's, groovy, dream wave, psychedelic, 'you got to be high for this' vibe they're certainly ones to look out for. Well thats if you can bare to bring yourself to get off you're duvet, because listening to these lot is just crazy dreamy- they put you in a trance. Honestly, listening to them now is making it ridiculously impossible to write a sane yet decent post. We just want to kick back, relax and do nothing. Moving on though, they're shaping up to be quite the band. They've got their style on point, the music matches their appearance and the general aesthetics of the music videos all work well together- it's a good balance of vintage old school and a unique new fresh indie feel. They've really got themselves together, its impressing us more and more everyday.
One of their songs which we're constantly raving about though, would be 'Swingin'. This song exaggerates all the points we were making, it just sends you off in a dream like state, you just want to drift away into the early hours. But not only this, they've just finished their 'VNO' EP which is on sale on itunes NOW, they've been working hard and it's finally paid off. So if you know whats good for you, go give it a listen.
There isn't much more we can say because this four man indie band really is worth checking out for yourself.. and once you have, you'll agree with us on how good they are.

TWO WEEKS RUNNING - WASTE OF A DAY
Check out this insane indie rock n roll band, they're sure to rise to the top and we don't want you feeling silly when your pals know them and you don't.
TWO WEEKS RUNNING
HELLO, it's a new day and we're excited to write about TWO WEEKS RUNNING. Manchester based indie, rock 'n' roll group takes us by storm this week. With their laid back, lad vibe and their guitar melodies, they're slotting into the British music scene very nicely and as they've recently been presented on BBC's Introducing, we're not wrong. We're sure touring with the likes of Reverend and the Makers and the Wombats ensured that they got the publicity this kick ass band deserve..
Although that's not the only reason they deserve to be highlighted and risen to the top of music stardom. We checked out some of their tracks on soundcloud and its safe to say pretty damn good. Yes they have similar vibes to bands that are currently out there, but there's something different from these lot. The first few seconds in of 'Waste of a day' and it had our feet tapping and our heads nodding. Normally bands like this takes us a couple of listens too before you're ranting about them to the girls next door or your pals down the pub. But with Two Weeks Running this isn't the case, they bring an element of fun and teenage angst, you just want to belt the lyrics out-it has that Enter Shikari vibe to it - that we feel most people are going to be able to relate to.
So basically, we think these guys are going to go far, bravo boys. Their on itunes, go buy a track or two.
Saint Raymond- Fall at your feet
Shaka sessions.
A stripped back, acoustic version of Fall at your feet, thank Shaka sessions for this video. It's seriously beautiful and well worth a listen.
SAINT RAYMOND
So after a few slightly stressful and breaking bad taking over days, we're finally back ( we hope you haven't missed us too much ). And we've decided, us at MAM like how this blogs shaping up.. however we wanted to make a change. We realise now that until this point we've only been preaching the artists that are already getting preached. So we want to start representing the kick ass artists that haven't got the appreciation they deserve yet.
So to start this slightly new ball going, we're kicking things off with Saint Raymond (Callum Burrows)
Those who haven't heard this singer/song writer yet are in for a pleasant surprise. We first originally checked him out when we heard he was performing at Nottinghams Dot 2 Dot fest last summer, but unfortunately due to a clash we missed him.. We certainly got our karma though. Back in august, we saw him perform at Derbys small festival YNOT? on the quarry stage (where the likes of Young Kato and The 1975 also played) and he was amazing. Strong voice, catchy yet not trashy lyrics. This lad is creating a top indie acoustic vibe and we're loving it. Coming from Nottingham he's quickly following London Grammar and Dog is Dead in their very talented footsteps.
On to the music : One song we're loving at the moment would be Fall at your feet. This is a weird choice for us as it seems that this isn't his most popular or played song. But there is just something about the tone and lyrics which we're urging people to listen too. His voice is stripped back, fresh, emotional and with lyrics such as " watch me fall at your feet, give it all to make you feel complete" there enough to get any teen age girls heart flutter (TOP LAD) Thats not all though, his 4 track EP - Escapade is jam packed with catchy and heartfelt songs, proving that he's not a one trick pony. We suggest you check it out and whilst you're there give Bonfires a listen- you're welcome.
Seems he's ticking all the right boxes, Watch this space.
YLVIS- WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY
- Because you haven't heard it enough, it's better than blurred lines and quite frankly we're in an annoying mood. You're welcome...
