Daily incorrect quote, 149!
Crowley: Halt, is that my mug you’re drinking out of?
Halt: No, it’s mine.
Crowley: It... looks just like the one I have...
Halt: You don’t have one like this anymore.
Ranger Gathering 2025 - 9. forge
Creative documentation :]
To our Commandant and Chief, John Flanagan (1944-2026).
Thank you. For the adventure you gave us. For the characters you made us fall in love with. For the inspiration you were to young writers all across the globe. For the heart and warmth you breathed into your world.
May your legacy live on. We will keep your memory alive through continuing to love your stories.
Thank you, sir. For everything.
Do y'all think Halt ever had to teach Will to watch his facial expressions. Like making sure Will doesn't blow his cover by laughing at the dumbass bandit who just ran into a tree
Moreover, did that training involve Halt telling Will increasingly terrible jokes just to make sure he can keep a straight face
Moreover moreover, is this why rangers often drift to deadpan humor
When your Ranger keeps hallucinating conversations with you but you're literally just a horse...
I've just realized something about Gilan
I think, and I believe most of the fandom agrees, that Gilan exudes sheer chaotic energy. Something about that man guarantees he is a menace when he wants to be. But, interestingly, whenever we see Gilan put into stressful situations in the series, Gilan keeps his shit together better than Halt does! He may be more expressive, but he takes far less drastic actions and covers all of his legal bases more thoroughly. By this I mean that Gilan, in that one short story I have forgotten the name of, gathered evidence and attempted to go through legal channels, where as Halt at roughly the same time period is straight up forging documents. Halt is way less afraid of getting in legal trouble, and therefore kinda just Does Shit, and Gilan doesn't.
This leads me to two conclusions
One, which is actually reasonable: Since we primarily see Gilan through the perspective of a young, impressionable apprentice who is almost always in a very scary situation, Gilan holds himself to a higher standard when around Will than when he is with his mentor. This leads to him looking more responsible to the audience than he actually is.
Two, which is much much funnier: Gilan saw past Halt's blank demeanor and actually realized how batshit insane he can be and went "Nope, not doing that", and now specifically tries to be more reasonable than his mentor. This is in direct contrast to Will, who picked up those behaviors immediately and simply does the same thing as Halt but with a massive smile on his face
biggg fan of characters who look big and tough and stoic but only because they're internally thinking "fuckk what do i say how do i make friends. they didn't teach me this in sword school."
oooo edgy Halt

God I love Horace Altman he’s so hot and confident but not in a self-righteous way and he’s just a tad whimsical and he also has big tits
I too get distracted by Horace Altman and his massive fucking tits and dismantling of his own internalized toxic masculinity
"I asked Chat GPT--" well I asked halt and he loudly complained about me asking so many questions before answering it with a depth of knowledge that betrayed decades of lived experience earned from being forced to grow up too fast
Had an idea for a ranger superstition:
When the chain of the oakleaf necklace breaks, your next/current mission will end in disaster.
This disaster can be avoided by either giving the mission to another ranger or requesting backup. In other words, presenting the commandant or any other ranger with your broken chain and oakleaf is like a 100% solid argument for someone to either take over or join the mission.
Halt: Morgarath Sus
Morgarath: Proof?
Crowley: Yeah Morgarath Sus he keeps following me
Morgarath: I’m doing my tasks!
Baron Arald: Sounds sus to me
Prince Duncan: Soooo we voting Morgarath?
Halt: Yeah
Crowley Has Voted
Halt Has Voted
Baron Arald Has Voted
Prince Duncan Has Voted
Morgarath: :(
Morgarath Has Voted
Morgarath Was An Imposter
Shout out to the person who just liked this I laughed so fucking hard
my favorite trope will always being unwilling adoption. Like "aw fuck I accidentally showed basic human decency to this insecure, heavily neglected, possibly abused child, and now if I don't show them approval once a week they will actually explode"
I've been wanting to do this scene for a while, and @that-one-enby-ranger-2000 suggested I do this back in my word blog. Here it is. I'm back to my old background-hating ways, because there's so much more I could have included in the picture, but I didn't want to detract from Will and Halt in the infamous Boar Scene.
Okay so like before I can get into the au I have to really explain that Horace Altman is, always has been, and always will be my knight in shining armor in every sense of what that may mean.
Like have you ever seen that trend where it like “imagine you’re alone in a room with man, real or fictional, and you feel completely safe, who’s the man?” Literally it’s Horace, all day every day.
And It’s literally just because for me he is the picture of women respecting masculine protectiveness if that makes any sense. Like Horace would be the type of man that would sit and listen to women’s issues and actively be anti-misogynist and do what he can to make the women around him feel comfortable because he knows that he’s this big muscular warrior and that could be intimidating and make a woman feel unsafe in his presence. Like intentionally offering his hand to someone who might need it to steady themselves, but not grabbing them, those sort of things.
Horace would be the man that would check how other men behave towards women. Like “locker room” talk among the knights and warriors? Absolutely fucking not, If you can’t speak respectfully you won’t speak at all, and he would break someone’s jaw to make sure they shut up for good. You want to grab at the serving girls or girl around the towns and villages? You suddenly do not have hands to grab with.
Like I just need you all to understand that everywhere Horace goes, he acts like a guardian protector for the girls and women who do not have protection. When the knight of the oak leaf visits EVERYONE can walk safely in the night because no one is willing to risk his wrath, and this continues long after he leaves.
And this is all mostly because of our beloved Horace’s own morals and personality, but what if something had happened in Gallica that had triggered this?
This just reminded me that Ares may be the god of war but he’s also the protector of women… very Horace coded
