Cold Cat
Have a Happy and safe Halloween! Stay awesome! And don't be a Scaredy Cat!
1) Learn to put on your bracelets and zip up your dresses by yourself. There will be times when you will be alone. 2) Get on a long plane ride. Look out the window. Understand the immensity of our world. Understand your insignificance. Understand your absolute importance. 3) Press the send button. If you don’t say it now, you never will. 4) Do not sneer at happiness or roll your eyes at sadness. Be aware that apathy is not healthy. 5) You are more than the amount of people who want to have sex with you. 6) That pit in your stomach when he doesn’t text you back, it shouldn’t be there. No one should be able to control you like that. 7) Shopping is cathartic. Buy the shoes and deal with one-ply toilet paper for a while. 8) It will get better, but it will never be perfect. Learn to live through the small moments of happiness. When they disappear, remember they will resurface. 9) I promise that cookie will not change anything (except that it will make you smile). 10) Please, please, take care of yourself. You are everything to somebody. You are everything to your self. That alone is enough.

The Story of Mary Jane
I would like to take the time to share how Mary Jane came to be my Kitty Child. Mary Jane actually came to me through her Mother. I was residing in a communal living house, when one evening my Land Lady came to me and said that there was a very friendly stray cat on our back deck. I followed her out there and sure enough, a very friendly, very small, orange kitten was sitting out there. I sat down and gave her all the pets she wanted. Normally we just left strays alone. There are dozens of them in that area. This one was different. She was super friendly and loving. And she wasn’t going away. We took her in and gave her a home. A couple of days later, however, she went into heat. My Land Lady was not going to put up with the howling. So, we tossed her back out. She would not go away. A few days later I could not stand to hear her crying outside our house anymore. If we could not keep her, I would find someone that could. I spread the word at work about her. A day later I got a text from one of my co-workers. She had talked to her husband and he said they could take the kitten. We met at a gas station (It was pouring rain, like in the movies when you say sad goodbyes. I’ll never forget.) and handed her over. I was sad and happy at the same time. I mostly felt awesome that I found her a good home and better yet, my Land Lady was happy to be rid of the howling kitty. But something had happened…. I believe it was about two weeks later when I got a text message from my co-worker. “This cat is pregnant”, it read, “and you’re taking one of the kittens.” I was actually really excited about this. I spent the next months buying things that I would need to make my new furry friend happy. I finally got the text saying she was having the kittens. I went over there that night to see them. There were four total but because of how young Momma was, one was stillborn. There were three remaining. Two of them were orange and one was white. I wanted the white one. The white one was not doing well, however. We weren’t sure what was wrong with it, but Momma was not cleaning it like she had the other two. She did not want anything to do with it. They spent the evening trying to nurse it and keep it warm, but it only made it to the next day. I got the text. “The white one didn’t make it.” I was heartbroken. My second choice was the little girl with what I called “White Airbrush” on her face. I waited the acceptable amount of time and the day finally came. I got to take her home with me. I almost turned the car around and took her back because she cried the whole way for her Momma. I felt terrible. But within a week, she was in love me. She would sleep curled up around my neck and she’d tornado around the room making me laugh hysterically. I named her Mary Jane. I had no idea at that time how much she was going to mean to me, how much of a bond we were going to share. I’ll save all of that for “My Story” though. I still say to this day that it was fate for us to come together.
Fifties Kitty
I made a list one day while I was at work of some potential Awesome Wednesday photos. Fifties theme was first on that list. I knew I had bandanas and a shirt that would work. I even cut my bandana in half to make a smaller version for Mary Jane. I also had a shirt that didn't matter if it matched the bandanas because I was planning on doing it in black and white. I also borrowed some make-up from my beautiful mother. (I don't wear lipstick.)
Mary Jane was not being cooperative. I figured it out when I spotted the fly that was buzzing around my room. So, we took a break from the "photo shoot." I sat there for a bit and then looked around my room. I spotted the coca cola bottle (that actually dances to music) that my Aunt had recently given me out of her Garage Sale Treasures..."the game's afoot." (I made myself chuckle with that.) I grabbed Janey and we had our Awesome Wednesday photo. I posted it with the usual hashtags including #ShareACokeAndSomeAwesome

Reading Kitty
The things we find while going through boxes in the basement for a garage sale....
My sister and I found these doll glasses in one of our bins of "memories" in the basement. They sat in my room for a few nights until one evening when I was reading before bed. I looked up, looked at the glasses and then looked at Mary Jane. I had my Awesome Wednesday photo. (Which, at this point was a late post due to getting ready for a garage sale.) I used a hair tie to keep them on her and as always, She delivered with a golden photo. I even laughed the whole time I was creating the post. She was reading The Chronicles of Narnia: The Horse and His Boy. And it really looks like she's reading it...intensely.

Disney Kitty
I had no idea three weeks ago that this photo would spawn something so fabulous on my Facebook. I took this photo on a day that I was feeling down in the dumps and I thought, "I should do something to help other people smile. That will make me smile too." This caused many of my friends to post stories of awesome things that had happened to them that day. One of my friends commented saying, "we should do this every Wednesday." Awesome Wednesday was born. It was already a hashtag on instagram, but I would like to take the time to say what Awesome Wednesday is to me.
Awesome Wednesday is taking a day out of the week to post something to lift other's spirits. This could mean telling a story of something awesome that has happened to you that week, posting a song that you jammed out to on the way to work, or in my case, posting photos of my cat and myself to put a smile on faces of others. It has been proven that filling the lives of others with happiness will in turn bring happiness to you. So, if my cat, Mary Jane, and myself can put a smile on one persons face each week that is enough for me.
I have now found myself spending the entire week thinking about what photo we can do next. As soon as I've finished posting one Wednesday photo I'm already planning the following Wednesday's. "What would make me smile?" I have a whole list of ideas and I constantly add more. My mood has increased significantly and I am not worrying about as many things, or beating myself up about all of my insecurities. I'm having fun making people smile. Here's to many more Awesome Wednesday's to come! Keep smiling!
