“Probably even more so, I just hide it a little better.” She said with a soft smile, moving her hand up his arm slowly, massaging his bicep after a moment. “I am the one who is supposed to protect all of you, keep you guys safe, that’s my job.” Her tone was soft, she was always softer with him, he just made it easy on her. After he kissed her, she let him keep a hold on her so that he could feel like she was in his grasp and not going to slip away. “I know, but I will be okay, I’m gonna come back to you.”

His muscle flexed under her touch, smiling a bit when she said she hid it better. “Don’t always hide it.” He teased a little, his lips brushing against her jaw before he pulled back to meet her gaze. “The man that loves you is suppose to protect you and keep you safe. That’s a man’s duty.” His hands ran up and down her back gently as he held her to him. “You better come back to me.” He added in a soft breath.

Oh nice, well, you look pretty young so you must either have a baby face or shown that big guy who never laughs or shows emotion something. Well thats good means that at this point there isn’t anything to worry about.

Ace? Nah, he saved me when I was a kid. Just been with him a long time so he’s taught me a lot and trusts me. Oh definitely, I think it’s gonna be an easy summer.

Oh so you’re a gate guard? That sounds… fun? But thank you, you must be tired though.

Gate, wall in general, sometimes get chosen to go on runs to take supplies to the village. It’s fun sometimes? Nah, not really. Nothing really happened at the gate today so it was really just boring all day.

“Well, I much rather have you here and unharmed over anything else, okay?” Evie could be incredibly stubborn when she wanted to be, and when she cared about someone she was going to do everything in her power to make sure they stayed safe. “I know, but still, just for me, stay safe and behind me.” She said with a smile, looking up at him, it was nice to see him smile, since he had found out about all this he hadn’t done that as much. Just as she was about to say something she felt the distance between them close as his lips moved against hers, a smile played on her lips as she leaned up into him to press her lips against his,

“I swear you’re about as stubborn as I am.” He breathed against her lips with a faint chuckle falling from them. “What’s wrong with staying safe and at your side instead of behind you?” He questioned, his lips pressing to hers again, keeping the kiss a bit longer than the previous one as he held her close to his body. “I still wish this wasn’t a thing.” He whispered into the kiss, knowing she would know he meant the fight.

Well, I’ve been offered a job in the day care now because of it, which I might take, mostly because it’ll help fill my days and I’ve always liked kids. Um, no, I think I am okay, most of them have already been returned and the rest are just in the day care now waiting on those to pick them up, I’m free of my child train, thank you though.

Oh wow, that sounds fun, playing with kids all day. But you’re welcome, figured I’d offer since I just came off my shift at my post at the gate.

Thank you, I appreciate it, I was able to find a way to make an herbal sunscreen so I don’t have to worry too much about burning up like I did last year, I am not sure how many more sun freckles this body can handle. Very true, I talked to some of the farmers the other day, it’s been a good season. looks like we’ve finally found our good places.

Sun freckles aren’t that bad but we could have searched around for some sunscreen, probably would have been expired but hey, something is better than nothing. Perhaps to make your stuff last longer we can mix it with sunscreen. But yeah it’s been a great season, looking good for our stock for winter.

There has been a trail of children following me around all day, I am not sure if they think I am there mother or something, which is honestly impossible because three of them are super pale white with blonde or red hair and, uh, hello, look at me, they might not be my children, but they are now, my maternal instincts are kicking in.

Maybe they just sense your strong maternal instincts and wanna follow you. That sounds pretty cute though. Need any help finding their parents?

I have some from the last time, but if you’d like to leave them in my tent I can definitely look at them later on, I have a few specific that I would like the make for the more common illnesses we get around her at that time, if I could help even a runny nose and a cough that would make me happy.

I’ll be sure to have the boys drop them at your tent. I’m sure you help all kinds of runny noses and coughs. The good news is that we’ve managed to grow a lot of ginger this season so anyone with arthritis or nausea should have some relief. My grandmother swore by ginger and its abilities for those..

When he said he loved her, she nipped at her bottom lip feeling her heart start to race and butterflies rush into her gut, but she did her best to try and not let it show, however he look visibly softened after that. Moving in closer to him, she let him wrap his arms around her, moving to rest a hand over his heart, feeling the light thump from it beating under her hand. “I can’t let you fight for me for that reason, you are doing this because of that feeling and I don’t want to be a reason you could possibly die.” Evie nodded. “Well, just breathe for right now, I am not going anywhere right now, and I am fully confident that you aren’t going to lose me, okay?”

He frowned in response to her as his hand came up to rest over hers as she spoke. “My love for you would keep me alive, I’m a better sword fighter than you think.” A slight smile played at his lips. Though he already knew how to fuck with a sword from working at a Medieval Times during the summers, Max has been sparring the hell out of him and throwing him around for weeks to where he is actually starting to match him in skill. He let out a soft breath after a few moments, his forehead pressing to hers a moment before pressing his lips to hers gently.

My garden is coming along nicely this year, it looks like things are just growing in better and better, I have enough herbs to make all different types of remedies for sicknesses, I am gonna have to stock pile before end of Summer.

And we have more books from the island library on medicinal herbs if you’d like them. Ace had them brought over with his shipment of goods this morning.

There is a river that is apart of the village, safe, it’s wonderful in the warmer months.

Oh wow, I haven’t even come across that side of the village then. I’m going to have to make my way over there one of these days, go for a swim.

Evie moved a hand up to rest on his cheek, brushing her finger along his skin in a soothing manner, she was never this affectionate with anyone, however, it came easier with him. “I won’t let you, you aren’t going to fight for me.” Her tone was soft, filled with affection, letting him know she cared for him as well. “He can’t, there are rules in place, if he breaks one, then even if I die, he does not become Commander, that it reverts to someone I named in something sort of like a will and he is banned from the village to never come back, there are rules in place to prevent that sort of thing, he is ruthless and I am sure he will do everything he can to beat me, but I am not that easy to kill.”

“But I love you.” He breathed out as she continued to touch his face, his arms moving around her waist as he pulled her in close to him. What she said makes sense, though he would feel better killing him than him getting banned from the village if something like that were to happen. “I can’t lose you and it’s hard for me to let you fight because some dumb asshole can’t get over the fact that a nineteen year old is running this place.”

At night we have bon fires, people sit around and tell stories, play music, dance, play games, dur the days we’ll go swimming or collect things with the kids.

“I was raised to be a warrior, Julian, what kind of Commander would I be? Honestly, to let someone fight and possibly die for me just to keep my position? And if they died, live with that guild while not being able to do anything to even make it better because it is not who I am anymore.” Looking up at him, she took a step closer, but still keeping a bit of distance between them. “I’m not letting you fight for me, Julian, I’m not.” It was finally said, she knew when he said someone loyal to her, he meant him, and she would not allow him to die for her. “If it happens, then it is what’s meant to be, but these rules are in place for a reason, and I can’t bow out of them now because they might not suit me.” Feeling his hand on her cheek, her eyes closed for a breif moment. “You don’t know that anything is gonna happen to me, I could be just fine, you just have to believe in me.”

His jaw clenched as she spoke, knowing she would fight no matter what he said which killed him all the same. “I want to fight for you.” His tone was serious as he met her gaze. His eyes closed, keeping himself from getting upset as he took a deep breath in to calm him. “I believe in you but I don’t trust in him trying to sabotage the fight to gain an advantage. He seems that ruthless enough with how much he wants your position. Who is to say he wouldn’t try to break the rules of the fight to do that?”

Evie could tell by the look on his face that he had a mix of emotions going on, part of him was scared, part of him was angry, and part of him just looked sad. Letting out a sigh, she turned to face him, pulling her chest gear off, moving to hang it over the chair, running her tongue along her bottom lip slowly. “What would you have me do? I am the Commander of this village, Julian, I can’t not fight for my position, it’s mine and I will not hand it over to some man, or allow someone to fight and possibly die for me.” She knew that if she allowed it he was going to be the one who took her place, and she was just not going to allow that to happen. “He challenged me, I had to accept.” Moving to take a step close to him, moving her hand up to rest on his arm. “I did one of these when I was fifteen, I won, I can win again.”

A soft sigh fell from his lips as he looked down at her. “Yes you are the Commander and we all love you for it but what is so wrong with having someone loyal who is willing to fight for you do it?” He looked down a moment, trying to keep his emotions in check as he felt her touch on his arm. “You don’t know that. I know you can fight, Evie, but what if something happens and he manages to get the upper hand just long enough to defeat you?” He brought his hand up to her cheek. “I would go mad if something happened to you. “Hell, I would kill him anyway, fuck the rules.”
