2/12 sunflowers – the only survivors, with budding flowers!!
***
Dear Readers,
Late last year I shared how I was starting to fix up my small backyard. It started with leveling out one side, placing some lovely fake grass, and creating a garden bed at the back. My amazing father with help from my loving boyfriend put in the hard work to achieve my vision for a cute little courtyard. I also shared my first attempts at growing plants from seeds.
Well, these two sunflower plants are the only survivors…
I love Milo, and he loves to help me out with maintaining the backyard, but we do not share the same vision about what that should look like.
Taste testing plants & digging holes is helpful, right?
It doesn’t matter if they’re crooked, they are alive.
The garden bed, and Milo’s shell pool.
Now you will notice a whole bunch of greenery in the garden bed next to the sunflowers… I actually can’t be sure they’re not weeds. But, I did throw a few hundred assorted poppy seeds (mildly in frustration) into a fertilized patch of soil shortly before the garden bed was done up, and Dad mixed up the dirt and possibly spread all those seeds everywhere. I didn’t actually expect the seeds to grow after the dirt was mixed up. I’m waiting a bit longer to see if flowers sprout, and if not I’ll replace this mystery growth with some grown plants from Bunnings (I can admit I have not yet acquired enough gardening skills to grow baby plants, but so far have managed to keep a few established plants alive).
Dad gave me a cutting of one of his plants which I had to move out the front because Milo was hell-bent on getting into the pots. I also have a few succulents, and I’m content with just that for now. Since we got Milo I feel like taking care of him is enough to occupy most of my spare time, but getting him into a routine with feeding and walking him has actually helped me to remember to water my surviving plants.
Who knows how this will progress throughout the year, but if anything else changes I’ll keep you updated.

A sweet Christmas gift <3
***
Dear Readers,
Around October my sister asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I sent her a few Etsy links. Upon one of my many 3am Etsy searching sessions (thanks to my wonderful permanent night shift position) I stumbled upon a glorious collection of yarn bowls. Made by Barruntando, I picked this guy as my favourite – seriously, could a bowl be any cuter??
I sent her a few hundred links though, so that I would have no idea what would end up under the tree with my name on it – I like surprises.
I was so delighted when I unwrapped this little fox, and he has found a nice little home on my bedside table.
Very versatile, any yarn bowl helps to keep projects running smoothly – this guy just does it so cutely. The idea is that you simply pop your yarn into the bowl and slip the yarn into the little cutout (as shown below), and away you go – the weight and design keeping the yarn in place so you don’t have to worry about it rolling on the floor or getting tangled. You can use the holes to keep your crochet hooks in or for multi-coloured projects. I keep my tools inside it when I’ve put my yarn away for the day. Below is also a sneak-peek at one of the looooooooooong blanket projects I’ve been working on (it’s a queen-sized throw!).
Alternatively, you could always use the trick my mum taught me – chuck your skein in a bag and hang it near you (on the back of a chair, on a door handle, on the knob of a dresser drawer, whatever works). But I quite like this cute fellow.
What cute crochet tools have you got/would you recommend? I’d love to see them!

Simple but sweet white border

Classic Granny Square
***
Dear Readers,
It has been a while since I did a nice simple granny square blanket. It was eerily soothing, and I thoroughly enjoyed how easy it was to just sink into the rhythm of it.
I’m in love with variegated yarn! This mix of blue, green, and white had me hypnotized. I thought it would be a lovely colour for a bouncing baby boy. A simple row of single crochet followed by reverse single crochet (crab stitch) all in white made for a nice simple border to match and make those bright colours pop. I made it for a family friend who had a baby in November, but unfortunately I didn’t realize I wasn’t going to be able to see them until later in the year when they get back from a much needed trip back home to Chile.
I wanted to share not only this new baby blanket, but also to throwback to a cute project from last year that resulted in the leftover white yarn I used for this border.
I could hardly believe that my bestie’s baby turned two over the weekend! This is a dress that I had made her last year, following this beautiful paid pattern by CrochetMonkie.
Have you made any cute baby gifts lately? I’d love to see them!

Dear Readers,
We’ve been making some exciting preparations around the house – we’re puppy proofing everything before we go and pick up our new family member on Sunday!!
I could not be more excited!!
We finally agreed on a name; Milo!!
He’s a gorgeous little Golden Retriever, coming to us all the way from NSW. The breeder is lovely and she keeps sending photos (although he refuses to keep still for them) so I thought I would share!!
We also had lots of fun picking out puppy things <3
And the backyard has had some major changes, including the addition of some ‘grass’. My awesome Dad and my partner Kris have been working tirelessly the last few weekends!
The house has had a few small but important changes, from moving a few things inside cupboards or higher up out of reach, tidying cables, painting all the things we had left to paint, to replacing the curtains (now both pretty machine washable!).
Before…
After!!
So many changes, and I could not be more excited!!! Can’t wait to share photos when we pick him up!!
I’ve got a few projects crochet projects that are nearing completion so also keep an eye out for them :)

My backyard
***
Dear Readers,
I took these photos about a month after we moved in and had finally settled down with all the sorting out inside furniture and what-not. These are what I hope to be my “before” pictures for what will be a lovely little backyard.
I by no means have green thumbs, but I’m trying.
About half of all the seedlings and things I’ve tried to grow have not yielded any good results. But, I want to share the few little plants that are giving me hope.
I bought a windowsill sunflower kit that was in the “easy enough for your kids to grow” section at Bunnings – 8/12 thrived!
I also bought a few packets of seeds to grow Californian poppies. They were doing well, until all but one withered… at least the one is doing well!!
My other beacon of hope is my little terrarium that Kris made for me about three Christmas presents ago – still alive!!
I also visited my parents yesterday and took some photos of my dad’s ever-changing and awe-inspiring garden. Talk about garden goals…
Hopefully one day I can grow such beautiful things!

Dear Readers,
As mentioned, I wanted to share my new craft space!!
Although I’m sure my mother misses having me around the house, I’m sure she does not miss having all of my crafting bits and bobs strewn all over the house…
I can’t even begin to describe how surreal it is to have a house of my own. It’s a testament to the saying that hard work pays off, after all those years of study and endless hours of shift work I was able to buy my own place. And now I could turn what was once a closet into a lovely little craft nook.
I have a nice little desk for my sewing, and I decided to have all of my yarn collection on display up the top. Partly to stop myself from buying too much more yarn, although let’s face it that is still probably going to happen… and partly to help me choose my yarn more easily when starting new projects. I have the drawers and space at the top of the desk for all my odds and ends. The top drawer has scraps/balls of yarn that have just enough leftover for small pieces or embellishments. The cart lives downstairs and I try to only keep stuff in it that I’m working on/will help me with my current projects. And the rest of the house gets to stay relatively tidy!
That being said I have only been living here for less than two months, but I’m hoping to keep it this tidy as time goes on!
Do you have any tips or tricks for keeping your crafting spaces organised?

Fresh start
#wordpress #changes #craft
Dear Readers, Long time no see! How is everyone going? You may have noticed that I’ve decided to renovate – the place looks a bit different (new name, new domain, that sort of thing). No, I haven’t deleted everything, I’ve just decided to take a step back and start fresh. I’m in the process of seeing which of my old posts fit with my new direction. For those of you who have found this place anew,…

FINISHED! :D I put the finishing touches on Olaf’s House in the first few days of the year…
I prepped for my epic trip (#philsnchils) with these comfortable little creations…
I also made this little carry case to take a few essential with me, following this pattern by Moogly.
Then I followed this beautiful paid pattern by CrochetMonkie, and made a gorgeous little dress for my bestie’s little baby girl (who is somehow now A YEAR OLD?!).
I was inspired to come up with something to say thank-you to the amazing lady who has helped look after my grandparents for the last five years, and so I made this. No pattern yet, but I think I might make another for myself and explain how I made this one so keep an eye out in future.
I also made this little matching purse by making two granny squares and sl st across three edges to join them – simple but cute.
Started… :)
A Mermaid Tail Blanket for my sister, following these lovely instructions :) I found some of these beautiful colours in Chile!
And of course a few cross-stitch projects are finally happening again! Keep an eye out soon ;)

Back to Reality.
Dear Readers, That was a really long, and really short six and a half weeks… Source: Buzzfeed Three weeks in the Philippines, and three-ish in Chile (#philsnchils). I got back on Sunday afternoon, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my holidays even happened, let alone that they are now… over. I don’t do well with flying. I get too anxious and worked up, and something always…

I’m nearly half way through one final (somewhat extended) set of nights, yay! The last two nights have been particularly settled, so I’ve been quite productive crochet wise. I found this cute little pattern on Ravelry, and made myself these to keep me comfy on my upcoming flights.
I also made a little headband to match, not only for looks but to use as an eye mask ;) I didn’t follow a pattern, just a simple chain 75 (measured to my head) ending with a sl st to make it a circle, one row of 74sc with a sl st to keep the circle, then continue with 74dc, 74sc, 74dc, and 74sc – too easy.
What do you do to make long flights more bearable? xoxo

For Christmas I got this cute little Olaf POP! figure – isn’t he cute? Co-incidentally, I was following this three part series by Pink Mambo at the time, and he has since inspired me to finish this cool project! I was so excited to buy a hot glue gun, and although I’ve always wanted one I could never really justify getting one. I bought one anyway on sale a few weeks back and this project gave me…
