9/10/2015
Hello. I am Cassie . Welcome to my blog again ha ;) This week i am gonna talk about the online communities andĀ What opportunities or challenges are they bringing for brands.
About online communities
Online communities are collectivities of a broad range of people who share a common experience, interest, or conviction. It may interact with one another and contribute to the collectivity primarily primarily over the internet. As i am a member of BeautyExchange, sometimes i would like to share my experience of makeup , fashion with the members, or give comments to their blog . We may discuss which lipstick is betterā¦etc. Ā It is very interesting because i can share the common interest with the other members.
(A)Opportunities bring for brands
Ā Ā Ā Ā As we have just say, online communities means collectivities of people who share a common experience , interest, conviction or problem. The brands can go to different forums, find out what are their target audience want . After that , base on those information , the brands may create some new product or some promotion who are really suit their target audience. It may make the brand get on the right ātrackā . Letās take this for example, the HK discuss member asks which makeup product more suitable for her to use in the summer because she has some skincare problem. The brands may find out these problems than create a new problem who can fix the problem. That may be their selling point.Ā
Ā Ā Also, online communities can be a platform to create favorable comment. Online communities is used as a tool for favorable comment because Users share heir experiences with other members . If those comment are positive , it may tend to be favourable recommendation and suggestions. It can affect peopleās choices.Ā
(B)Challenges bring for brands
Ā Ā Although online communities bring a lot of opportunities , it also bring some challenges to brands.Ā
Ā Ā Nowadays, new media provide us a platform where we can discuss any topics that we feel interested in freely. People using interest forum will find it comfortable to express their feelings and opinion on any specific topics, without worrying whatever background they are. Thatās the problem. Users may provides faulty information because nobody would know who they are. It will lead false conclusion, as proof is not required when making post in the forum .In the long run , it may lead to an adverse effect. Maybe there are some negative comments on some product but the comments are notĀ trustable. The audience may still affected by the comments. Such as the negative comments on the openrice. It really affect peopleās choice.Ā
Yes, you are right. In fact, i am a member of the BeautyExchange too. I love watching other members to share their experiences and see which product they recommend for us. Sometimes, I will ask for the opinion before I buy the skincare products:)Ā
I love watching some blogs or videos onĀ BeautyExchange too. The bloggers always share something interesting on it. Lok Sin So and Cynthia Ip are some of the bloggers who I love most.
Maroon 5 - Sugar
I love watching mv on YouTube. One of my favorite mv is Maroon 5-Sugar. This mv was so sweet which Maroon 5 attended the wedding and being the guest. Having Maroon 5 to be the wedding guest, i think it is the most unforgettable experience. Letās enjoy this video!

MY LAST BLOG!!
Hi! Iām Mandy. This blog should be my last blog on Tumblr. I recommend this YouTube video to all of you. I really think that this video is interesting. I am a fans of Bomba, I love their video so much. This video is talking about the real situation of the couple, it can express what most of the boy friends and girl friends are thinking. I am quite agree with what the girl is saying in the video.
Opportunities and Challenges!
Hi! Itās Mandy again and again......This week I would like to talk about what opportunities and challenges are online communities bringing for brands.
Online community is a group of people shares a common experience, interest, or conviction. They may interact with one another and contribute to the collectivity primarily over the Internet.
Let talk about what opportunities are online communities bringing for brands first.
The brand can increase reputation through online communities. People like sharing their opinion and experience about the brand on the forum or websites. Openrice is a good example to explain how to increase the reputation. Many members of Openrice would like to leave comments after they eat something, they may talk about the food is good and tasty and recommend other to try them. People who have never been to that restaurant would like to search that restaurant on the Openrice before they go to eat. If most of the feedback is good, other users may have interests and want to take action. The brand can build up a positive image then increase reputation through online communities.
The users can rate the restaurant.
A member shared her experience.
The brands can know their consumer insight more easily. The brands can go different forums to find out what their target consumer is talk about though their comments, finding out what they are looking for. After that, the brands can base on those information, create some new product to fit their consumer insight.
On the other hands, the brands may face online attack. Online communities can discuss and share whatever they want freely. They can also share negative experiences and view to the brands. The message can extend very fast though the Internet, the brands are difficult to control what people say even some are not the truth. Therefore, online communities may also bring negative image for the brands.
BIG DATA can be usedĀ in many different aspects!
Hey guys, is Mandy again. This week, I will talk something about big data. After the lecture, I have the basic concept of big idea. It is the ability to extract new insights or create valuable products and services based on a large scale of data.
I am going to focus on the real-world application and use of big data. Big data can be used in many different aspects, including banking, healthcare, retail, sports and so on .
Here are some real-world examples of Big Data: The first example is Big Data helped Obama win!!!!
I have never through that big data can also be used in presidential election. In 2012, the U.S president Barack Obama decided to use Big Data for his re-election in 2012. And there are 100 people in his team. After their analysis by HP Vertica, they can save more resources, time and money.
For example, 1.) they recorded peopleās particular interest in voting issues, the digital team then send email blasts from the local organizer to voters, each corresponding to a voter's favorite campaign issues. This can more impress the voters. 2.) their strategy on TV advertising. They found out what is the show and TV channel that Obama voters always watch and purchased more TV advertisements on it. This can reach the voters more easily. So that Obama campaign purchased twice the number of cable TV advertisements as the Romney campaign. In addition, letās look at the banking system. The example is Citibank. Citibank is a bank operation in 100 countries. Big data analysis on the database of basic financial transactions can enable global insight on investments, market changes, trade patterns, and economic conditions. Many companies such as Zara, H&M, etc. work with Citibank to locate new stores based on the same target group.
A Great Leap Forward!!!
Hello! Iām Mandy. This week I am going to talk about my understanding and give some examples of web 1.0 to web 3.0.Ā
From web 1.0 to web 3.0 is an improvement admittedly
Web 1.0 is the read-only web. Website owners make information available on the web; web users read the information. There is no information flow from users to producers. This is a unilateral communication; there is no interaction between the producers and users. The only thing that the user can do is RECEIVE information passively. The similar case in our daily life is the mass lecture, the students listen what the teacher is saying without reaction.
Some examples of web 2.0
Web 2.0 is the read-write-publish web. The web users can interact with other web users, the most common way is leaving comment or sharing our opinion online, such as Facebook, YouTube and so on. It is contrast to web 1.0, a bilateral communication. It provides a platform for the users connect each other. Golden forum is another example of web 2.0. The member can open a new post discuss and share their own experience or opinion, upload photo. At the same time, the others can leave comment.
Web 3.0 is the read-write-execute web, the semantic web. It is more personalized. It provides information according to your interest and search history. As I always search something about travel, there are many advertisements about hotel appear on my Facebook. Web 3.0 is more convenient to the users but it is also an invasion of privacy. Although it is a bit boring, I hope you can know more after watching my blog sharing.
Finally, there is a video clip about web 1.0, web 2.0 and web 3.0.
BLOG EXERCISE (TUTORIAL 2)
Hello everyone! I am Mandy Tsang from T01. This is my first blog exercise.
In what ways can I relate to New Media Culture course?
Nowadays, most of the Hong Kong people have one smart device or even more. At the same time, new media develops rapidly in recent decades, we cannot avoid using it in our daily life, it became part of our life. For me, I have a smartphone and a MacBook. I always use the social networking media to share my feeling, slice of life, and photos on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Using these new media forms is related to this course. Even now, I am using Tumblr to do my assignment.
As I am an advertising student, I am strongly necessary to learn more concepts and culture about new media. As new media is a trend for advertising, many brands use it to sell their products, services or build up brand values.
I always upload photo on Instagram, if you want to know more about me, please feel free to follow me! ^_^
What topics in our 13-week schedule am I interested in?
I am interested in the topics of Social networking media in week 5 and YouTube in week 6.
As I mentioned before, I am a digital resident, I like sharing my opinion, photos on social networking media. Also social networking media improve the relationship between my friends and I. Although my secondary classmates and I cannot meet each other frequently, we can chat through WhatsApp, Facebook or leaving comments to the photos on Instagram.
Besides, I watch the videos on YouTube every day and I subscribe some YouTube channels. There are different types of videos on YouTube, such as movies, MV, TV variety shows. In Hong Kong, more and more beauty YouTubers appear, this is also the new method for advertising. Thatās why I am interested in this topic.
What questions do I have about new media culture now?
1. How do new media culture relates to work?
2. Will the new media replace the traditional media?
3. Which one is more effective, traditional media or new media?
