Drawing The Spot every day until Beyond The Spider-Verse releases - Day 1002
I'm going to stop having HBO for a while, so I told myself "I can't leave HBO without having seen atsv on this platform." So I decided to watch it, and in my language, Spanish, to see what it was like. And there was a part that made me laugh because even though I saw the movie several times I hadn't realized until now that Hobie gets upset with Miguel specially when Miles offers him the empanada and he sends it to hell.
And he is very right about that.
he's face is like:

So'lek: where's Tamtey?
Teylan: On the dance floor
Tamtey:
Okay now that I started talking about stuff I dislike about AFOP I canāt stop.
I HATE, DESPISE how they didnāt make the MC mourn Aha'ri.
It is a HUGE thing that I hate about the game. I generally love it and everything, but this detail just gets on my nerves too much. I canāt digest it.
Aha'ri is mourned by every other Sarentu except for us, her literal sibling. She is very often mentioned especially by Nor and Teylan, and when that happens, we have no reaction. At first I could have bought the fact (even if itās not implied in the slightest) that the MC is a more reserved person that doesnāt like talking about their losses/grief. But thatās just bullshit. Our character doesnāt even have a personality, and either way they have no problem mentioning Aha'ri in front of other people, like itās shown in the game itself.
I remember the MC kind of āāāmourningāāā her once. In a side quest when we find a Sarentu totem, and the MC says something like āI wish my sister was here to see thisā. This is all we get, in the entirety of the game.
Aha'ri is also brought up in several destabilizing circumstances, but thatās still not enough to stir a reaction from the MC. At the beginning, when we are escaping TAP, Mercer brings her up ā and not only her in general, but her murder ā in a pretty horrible way, and the only thing we say is a very flat, very unconvincing āmurdererā. Again, at the extractor plant, Harding brings up her death. And what do we say? Nothing. Not a whisper, not a gasp, not a hint at any type of reaction.
There are surely many other moments like these which I canāt remember now, but you get the idea.
The only reaction we ever get is when we are at TAP-Con1 and find her file. I liked that moment because our character seemed genuinely and realistically distaught, shocked and grief-stricken. But this is literally the only moment in the whole game.
Itās just so ridiculous to me how every other character (including fucking Alma!!) was allowed to bring her up and mourn her while the MC wasnāt. How do they feel about this? Do they feel honored when the other Sarentu mention her? Are they okay with Alma talking about her, even after finding out the truth about her, even considering the part she played in her death? Are they mad? Would they like people to stop mentioning her? Do they think itās disrespectful? How do they feel about their grief, how do they mourn? Do they feel like they did it properly? Do they like to honor Aha'ri in any way, to remember her, to make her offerings, to talk to her? Do they ever visit her in Eywa, or try to? Or are they stuck in denial and anger? Is it too difficult for them to mourn her in a more āexplicitā way, do they just prefer to keep everything inside because the grief is too painful, too difficult to face? Are they depressed when thinking of Aha'ri, or are they rageful, wishing for revenge? How did the MC react right after her death? Do they remember that at all? How did their grief change after they found out the truth about the Sarentu massacre and their motherās death? Did the loss of Aha'ri become easier to bear, or heavier? Did finding out the truth help them with the mourning process? Did they share it with the Kame'tire, with the other Sarentu? There are countless ways in which a person can grieve, and not one is more or less valid than another. Iām not saying the game shouldāve showed a perfect portrayal of grief, but still I would have liked to know the answer to at least one of these questions.
Once again, ubisoft erased an essential and huge part of the MC and the story itself in a pathetic effort to make our character neutral and customizable, when instead it ended up being disappointing and unbelievable.
I love this game more than anything but it will always infuriate me for every moment i think about it.
My biggest pet peeve, as brought up in the post, is Ahaāri. Why does Tamtey never talk about attempting to visit her in the spirit world? I doubt she was returned to Eywa after she was killed because a random naāvi child from a supposedly dead clan showing up in the middle of the woodsāfar away from any other clanāwith a gunshot wound is bound to bring up questions that TAP (who literally NO ONE knows about besides the actual workers) cannot answer.
Because of that, her body was likely incinerated or was dropped into something like the YavƤ which means she never returned to the spirit world. Neither was any of the clan who was killed in the massacre. And this doesnāt get brought up, at all?
The last remaining Sarentu, who only have a handful of memories of their FAMILIES, donāt even ATTEMPT to search for them in the spirit world? Or that they have zero reaction when they canāt do it? They didnāt question their whole identity because what naāvi canāt communicate with their families? You have to be joking.
We donāt get any scenes of Tamtey or any of the others visiting memories from their childhood to see the ones they lost? Why no one brings up the two kids who werenāt found when Alma finally woke them up? Or the two others who likely died inside TAP after Ahaāri?
why does it never get brought up one of the names you could give your ikran is shared with one of the missing Sarentu kids? Which implies we were close to them growing up?
I understand what they are attempting to do with all of the Sarentu being different trauma responses (Tamtey being an avoider/doing anything to not think about it) but it just seems lazy since, with all theyāve been through, someone is eventually going to break down.
Cut to the From the Ashes dlc, Tamteyās reaction to TAP plus Soālekās reaction to Tamteyās openness about what happened, it is very likely they have talked about what went down to some extentā yet we never see that happening?
Not to mention Tamtey only getting some personality in the dlc centered around Soālek? When they had the whole main game plus two dlcs? Why?
when Tamtey is kidnapped by the Mangkwan+Major B, we donāt get any insight about what is happening to them. Bukowski has canonically killed a child, tied them to a tree and wrote a message in blood on their dead body as a warning and we donāt get any scenes of the same man that had done that when he has Tamteyāunarmedā in a cell.
Youāre telling me the Mangkwan didnāt lay a finger on them? Youāre saying the RDAāwho have canonically beat a Zeswa unconscious because he wouldnāt answer their questionādidnāt touch them? Did they also give Tam a warm blanket and some tea to relax as Soālek tore down base after base looking for them?
I thought of something really adorable, when the Sarentu have their own kids Soālek is gonna have grandpa/uncle privileges
Heās gonna be the one to be the babysitter when they have to go out for missions, look out, or just want time for themselves
Soālek will make sure to nothing happens to the new generation of the sarentu clan, heāll even teach them about a few naāvi things and tell stories about his clan and his adventures, even stories about their parents
Making sure these kids feel accepted and loved is one of his top priorities, if any of them find any interest in some human stuff Soālek is not gonna judge
Their sarentu parents are gonna give their kids the childhoods that were taken from them, but since the Mangkwan and the TDA will still be active and Iād imagine that Aranahe hometree would still be under siege, maybe, so the kinglor forest might still be a little dangerous to go to, so they would just be in the clouded forest, upper plains, and the spires more, Just letting their kids run around and explore, obviously making sure itās a safe area
Rasi would also be a grandmother figure for th kids, just happy seeing the next generation of the clan and helping out, telling them stories of the past, teaching them Sarentu traditions
With these kids having all these people loving them, and making sure they grow up safe and happy then their is full hope in this continued war
