what a week… well, I’ll share some good things: I got a full score on my art history midterm, and my last midterm is this friday! after that I’m planning to have a proper self care day. I haven’t baked in a while… maybe I should make some strawberry cheesecake? I’ll post pictures if I do 😋what are your favorite desserts?
🤔 What are your goals for this week? • 🙋🏻♀️ Mine is to finish my personal statements for my fellowship application that’s due end of August, while enjoying my parents’ pool during this heatwave.
From my my studygram
[ desk ] life's been uneventful recently, i've managed to binge-watch stray kids survival show while accomplishing acads and org work ;D anw, here's a glimpse of me working on a digital magazine!! you'll see the messiest layer panel too heheh

hi! so I’ve had this 2019 planner that I bought for absolutely no reason and I just couldn’t stand that it was empty so I made it into a moodboards/scrapbook/brain dump journal inspired by hf Twitter #justforfun

What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Me, it’s the panic. The panic of doing poorly on Step 2. Might not sound healthy but it works. Great motivator.

20.12.2020 // i finally met up with two of my friends i haven't seen since last december over the last week (one-on-one, with masks and safe distancing, etc.) and it was so lovely to see them again!!
25th of january ¦ instagram link
Here are the books I’ve been reading!
Breasts & Eggs by Mieko Kawakami ✔️
J'Adore Mon Chat by Alberto Montt
Le Vieil Homme et son Chat by Nekomaki
As an attempt to get better at french, I’ve been reading out the french books to my fluent partner & I can already feel a slight improvement on my accent! What have you all been enjoying recently? 🤍☕
MSA resources from your local native speaker ♡ - part two
My first post was pretty meh. Some links don’t work properly anymore and there’s better Arabic media out there than what I had previously referenced. So here’s that list:
1. National Geographic Abu Dhabi - I watched some videos (also looks like they upload full episodes), and the Arabic is crystal clear.
2. The Smurfs - but in Arabic (As-Sanafer!!!) Every Arab kid who grew up before or during the 2000s has definitely seen this show on TV. Now, it’s available on YouTube. The channel has episodes that are about 10 minutes long; they also have 60-minute compilations. I feel that it’s very beginner-friendly (even if you don’t understand everything; that’s okay!), and it’s such a cute cartoon. The voices are clear, and so is the Arabic.
3. Cartoon Network Arabia on YouTube I watched some videos to make sure it wasn’t in a dialect of Arabic, and it looks like it isn’t. All your favorite cartoons are on here: Adventure Time, Craig of the Creek, We Bare Bears, Teen Titans, etc. Only downside(?) is that the episodes don’t seem to be numbered, but they do mention the name of the episode (if that’s something that might bother you).
4. I found a website that uploaded these Little Lulu comics - here’s the one Arabic comic from 1991 (scroll all the way down). Unfortunately, I couldn’t find that many.
5. Kalila Wa Dimna is a collection of stories that were translated into Arabic a really long time ago, and they’re pretty well known (I had to read it during my freshman year in high school lol). I found it on archive.org. The really cool thing about this find is that you can read along with the audio! The PDF is a scan of a book that was made with people who are learning Arabic in mind, and there’s even vocab lists here and there. Since Kalila Wa Dimna is pretty popular in the region, there’s also a children’s cartoon version of it, if you don’t mind the highkey mediocre animation. Here’s the playlist on YouTube, or you could just look it up and choose whatever you feel like watching.
6. This channel on YouTube posts Arabic music with lyrics in Arabic, Romanized lyrics, and the English translation has the music sorted according to dialect: - Songs that are in Modern or Classical Arabic (yes, it is very normal for these older songs to be like 15 min long lol don’t worry) - Arabic-dubbed Anime Intros
7. Read Manga in Arabic
8. Webtoons translated by fans
9. Middle Eastern Netflix has quite a lot to offer. If you have access to a VPN, I’d highly recommend Netflix UAE. Even with shows that are in a dialect of Arabic, sometimes you’ll find subtitles in MSA (could help you get used to different dialects!)
I hope you’ll find at least one useful thing on this list. My ask is always open!
hi everyone!!! how was your guys’ weeks and what do you hope to do this next week ?
i’m going to start pushing myself to upload more often now since my school work is finally ramping up and I have midterms coming up too
