A snowy owl with bright blue eyes lands on a nearby fencepost.
Adam came to a stop as he walked down the deserted road. He looked around before focusing on the owl itself. “You’re a little far off from where you should be.” He smiled though. “You’re pretty though. So…are you here to deliver a letter or something?”Â
He stared at him for a long moment before he let out a hooted chuckle.  ”I don’t know if I could handle guardianship.  Human lives are just too ephemeral to get that involved with them individually.”
"Uh, well…" he paused for a minute at that. "They’re short, yea, but I bet it doesn’t mean they’re not worth being around. You could find someone who has a lot to do. You don’t really have a lot to lose by doing it, right?"
"I didn't say they aren't worth being around I just..." Â He looked down, wings sagging slightly. Â "I can't let myself get too attached."
Of course Adam didn't know about his previous relationship with a human. Â How could he? Â But that unfinished business still weighed heavily on his soul. Â He had intended to break it off anyway, but now he couldn't.
