The wonderful, brilliant, and lovely @pansiesandposies made this wonderful moodboard for The Fasting Girl.
Please look at her amazing fics and check out her profile!
Mel admits to the chronic loneliness to Doctor Langdon one day post shift. Becca bailing on her again.
Langdon gets it. Admitting to Mel that no one reached out to him during his stint in rehab and the time at home.
... That he doesn't have as many friends as he thought he did.
It's not so much sad as it is resigned.
"but you have your kids and your wife right?"
"kids were happy to have Dad around more. They're young they'll learn"
Mel doesn't miss this avoidance of talking about Abby but doesn't pry. 10 months without a friend reaching out. People he'd seen almost every day for years.
It's a loneliness she gets.
So on a very silly whim she picks up a large welcome back card. Not a multicoloured loud one. Something simpler and a little dark sided.
Almost everyone signs the card. The usual suspects she doesn't even approach. But makes it obvious she has something. Give them the choice.
Then she asks Abbot to fix Langdon's locker situation. She hopes her intent isn't misinterpreted. It's just... Unfair. Yes Doctor Langdon messed up but the burden of addiction is a monster. And everyone makes desperate choices.
So she tapes the card to his original locker. His name big and bold on the card. Right before shift end.
She knows he'll be behind everyone else. Preferring to go when everyone else is distracted. Felt less exposed.
Mel gets waylaid by Parker. Who is determined to get her to sharpen her teeth for her next deposition. Mel - if someone tries to take a bite outta you - take a bigger one.
So he catches her outside. Card in hand. Eyes bright with tears.

mel king x frank langdon | explicit | chapter 2 | 4.8k words
Frank stepped fully into their bedroom and Mel’s brain short-circuited. His jeans, old and worn over many years and really only donned when Frank was doing any sort of housework, hung low on his hips. Indecently low, really, and it was probably a miracle that they were held up by his hips at all. It wasn’t just the jeans, of course. No, it was the shirt he paired with it. It was a black crew-neck t-shirt, with Greek letters stamped across it and the “Greek Week 2013.” All the lettering was a rainbow of neon colors, so the theme was probably 80’s, or something like that. But what really caught Mel’s attention was the cropped cut of the hem of the shirt.

Thinking about how Dana told Frank that Abby might not want a new dog to take care of, and then Frank sat with Mel King, who loves dogs, petting a dog between her legs as they shared a beautifully intimate moment.
Thinking about how Abby threatened to leave Frank, but Mel told him she didn't want him to leave.
I just. I'm thinking.
So wise!
