Sonic is exactly the kind of character who appears in an anime world and blatantly violates common sense.
He was born and raised in the ninja village. From the moment he became conscious, he was disciplined according to the village’s rules, and even the outside world he could access was limited to what the ninja village allowed him to see. And yet, somehow, he naturally thinks like a normal person and believes the village’s brutal rules are wrong. That, in itself, is completely unreasonable.
Or perhaps he was originally like everyone else, and only during childhood or adolescence did he gradually realize that the system he lived under was wrong. (We don’t know exactly how old he was when he met Flash, or how long he had been observing him before that.)
In any case, this is honestly even more miraculous than Naruto being treated terribly by almost the entire village since childhood and still not growing up into someone who wanted revenge on the world. (At least Naruto had Iruka sensei.)
It really is a fictional anime world. Every time I think about this, I’m reminded that he’s really just a fictional character.
Or, if we think a little deeper, maybe Sonic has many deeply buried dark sides that we know nothing about. :))

Sonic and Flash are both pretty complicated people. The original versions even more so.
In anime fandom, people always take complex characters and slap annoying, boring, oversimplified stereotype labels on them. I figured that out pretty early, along with how fandom spaces generally work. That’s why I honestly don’t have much interest in talking to most people about this stuff.
So when you brought up this point that almost no one ever thinks about, I was really happy.
Sonic might look normal, but maybe he’s actually the most abnormal one. There’s no way someone could grow up in an environment like that and come out completely unaffected.
“Living a free life by your own strength.” Sure. But he might not really care whether that “free life” harms ordinary people or not. To challenge Saitama, Sonic will get rid of anyone who gets in his way, and he even nearly got innocent kids on the street killed once.
“You’d better make a move, or a lot of people are going to die,” was something he said too.
But because he’s popular, nobody really cares.
His dark side is a really good angle to dig into. I have a lot of ideas about it, and maybe they’ll show up in my fanfic at some point.
Also, the original version of Flash is the character I’m currently trying to dig into. That part where he apologizes to Saitama was just way too interesting. I loved it so much.
If Sonic monsterized, would Flash team up?
Given Amai Mask, yes—if he kept his human heart & helped Flash against the Tennindo.
BUT Flash would be disgusted & disappointed—at first, or maybe forever.
He’d feel he was right to try and end his life with that poison years ago.
Sonic is truly a stoic and magnanimous man. To him, nothing really matters except death, everything else is just noise. He was born at odds with the world, yet he holds a fierce sense of self, one so strong it influences those around him.
He's soul and core are incredibly resilient, and to me, that strength means more than any kind of power or his appreance.
While others get all emotional over him, caught up in their little-girl mindsets or some typical daydreamy melodrama about him, his past, or some of his situations, and let it all out in every way you can think of.
Sonic be like: “?? I didn’t ask for these fanfictions.”
To Flash, Sonic wasn’t quite as “important” as most ppl might imagine, but he wasn’t insignificant either. Sonic was, in his quiet way, “special” to him: best bro and the one who inspired his pursuit of freedom. Flash did express his gratitude, and for him, that was special enough.
They were close, but never each other’s everything.
This comic isn’t about melodrama or cliché love-hate tales. Each character stands alone, free, not fate-bound. Flash may be cold and pragmatic in friendship, but Sonic accepted that. That’s his quiet charm. I’m sure Flash felt it.
Does this count as a one-sided crush? You decide.

Most people are fans of Sonic, not Flash. So hardly anyone cares about the major contributions Flash made to investigating the Heavenly Ninja Party after leaving the Ninja Village, the effort he put in behind the scenes, or the immense resolve and sense of mission he carried when he chose to massacre the village.
The character himself has too little screen time and too little popularity. There are very few people who truly like him. It’s such a shame.

I’m very glad you worked our previous discussion into the fic. Before Flash made his decision at graduation, he must have already understood what he would have to carry afterward. And even after leaving the Ninja Village, he continued investigating matters related to it and made many contributions in that regard. Flash already had his own resolve when he made his choice. He’s also someone with a strong sense of mission.

I’ve already written 120 SoniFla pieces, and I still have nearly 50 fanfics that I haven’t posted yet. I’ve noticed I reuse a lot of similar themes. I want to revise them heavily, but I can’t bring myself to. They feel almost like a my diary, filled with my imagination and the traces of my thoughts, and yet I can’t help feeling that some of them are too repetitive.
But you still do different things with the same themes. Honestly, you always do something different with them. Girl, I can even tell what mattered to you at different points in time😆
This really is your diary by now. And it’s such a good read. The way you expand into certain universes is really fun, too.
Since Sonic and Flash don’t give you that much plot or setting to work with, it’s only natural for some things to repeat, but you’ve still found so many different ways to play with them.
In some people’s eyes, any relationship between good-looking characters must necessarily contain romance or sex. The differences between people are greater than those between humans and dogs. You can’t properly communicate with another species. The gap is too vast.
Fan creation based on anime works is another matter; by nature, it is completely separate from the original anime work itself. Unless the author has agreed to it or authorized you to make any statements or derivative works involving the characters they created.
Some people who are too deep into fandom can’t tell the difference between unauthorized derivative creation, in other words, some random fan’s sexual fantasy, and the manga artist’s actual work. They’ve already blurred everything together through their own sexual fantasies.
