8 days into the Divisa project, 2500 km on the clock... learning to photograph not for archiving memories but to honour and appreciate what I encounter and focus into. The act of photographing might look the same but the intention is to bring attention and respect to the subject in focus. Since the beginning of my relationship with Rubiane I was dreaming to be able to discover the world and myself through a blend of our artistic research. We will travel the entire border of two Brazilian States Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, creating and documenting actions, paintings and sculptures. Sometimes I think the magic of photography is to become a passage - a channel of transformation. The mere problem is that instead of contemplate and acknowledge what we see we tend to manipulate and instrumentalise...so to gain a profit. The passage is illuminating but we need to find new formulas to deconstruct or conter act the self-inflicted urge for profit/power. While adventuring in the abandoned Island of Pólvora I encountered these roots growing vertically on top of a wall. I start thinking about the poetic resilience I was facing. The PhotoPerformer is in action again this Sunday 14th of November at the Sunny Sands Beach in Folkestone as part of the Unframing Photography project.
