Liberate the Internet -- creating networks off of platforms

People have been saying this for years but looking toward the future, it's important that we end our reliance on "platforms" that can easily go from enabling to silencing our voices and communication.

Don't get me wrong, we have used social media to spread information and awareness to a great benefit over the last 2 months, I am not saying we need to abandon those platforms. What I am saying is that we need to be ready for when they find a better way to suppress us or shut us down entirely. At some point it will be more work to fight the algorithms that it will to just go elsewhere.

But I am thinking about the future here. About how we become connected, stay connected, broadcast, converse, etc. I say the more we take it into our own hands and the less power we give major platforms, the stronger our digital ties to one another.

I may be on Tumblr now, but the next thing I want to do is create something akin to a digital garden. (Read more) (How To)

I'm imagining a very near future where we not only cultivate our own spaces online, but link to each other's spaces constantly.

Ongoing dialogue where we link to a post or page from someone else's website and then write our own thoughts

Featured sites where we list the websites of our friends, people we admire or follow, etc. so if someone likes what they see on our sites, they can easily find other people who they may also want to follow.

If this sounds familiar it's because this is how social media already works, but these same principles can be applied outside of centralized platforms.

And people already do this to some degree even with things like linktr.ee where they put their own stuff but also stuff they're involved in or stuff they like/admire.

But let's do it some more.

I just saw the most Galaxy Brain gender take ever, from a cis man on reddit

[ID: a screenshot of a comment from reddit, with no username visible. The commend reads: This doesn’t make a ton of sense to me either. Setting aside the question of whether gender/sex is assigned or observed at birth, the gender I was assigned at birth was ‘boy.’ The gender I have now is ‘man’. Boys and men have different gender roles, and few adults identify as boys anymore. From this standpoint, every adult has a different gender than the one they had at birth. End ID]

Framing “girl” and “boy” as separate genders from “woman” and “man” is such an amazing take. it’s a framework that accommodates and explains so many trans experiences. Some trans people never were their AGAB. Some feel like they were their AGAB, but that that changed (usually when puberty hits, which is when you start “becoming a man/woman”. The accepted societal path is that girls grow up to into women, and boys grow up into men. But some girls grow up into men, and some boys grow up into women. This guy was a boy who grew up into a man, which generally works out pretty well for people. Some boys and girls grow up into people who aren’t men or women, even! It’s like this random cis guy skipped right over transgender 101, 102, 201, etc. and stumbled directly into Transgender Nirvana.

Hello! I saw one of your answer about Ichigo being chained because he was holding back for Orihime. Is it a new art? Or from a certain chapter? Idk but I saw some people talked about it recently like it's something new or like it a new realization? Not really sure lol.

Hi!! We were talking about the sketches Kubo drew between chapters during the Grimmjow battle, which can be seen here (scroll to the very last page for the sketches): chapter 282 and chapter 283.

282. Ichigo and Orihime lock eyes under his mask, and he sees how afraid she is. Not only does she already have trauma with hollows because of H!Sora trying to kill her in the past, but she wasn't even aware Ichigo could take this form. But he doesn't have time to reassure her or explain anything because he has to use his mask to protect her and it's PAINFUL. You can see how much knowing she's afraid is affecting him in the bottom panel of his eye. He looks so sad and defeated.

And this page ^ is immediately followed by this sketch Kubo drew at the end of the chapter:

Ichigo is depicted with his mask on, in chains.

Then this happens in the very next chapter:

283. Orihime calls out to Ichigo in tears, telling him he doesn't have to fight for her and that he can just leave her behind to die, as long as he won't get hurt anymore. Which makes him realize that she isn't afraid of him after all, and that she still cares about him just as much as she ever did...which completely restores his resolve against Grimmjow, of course.

"Sorry, Grimmjow" :)

He's not allowed to get hurt anymore...not because it's hurting him, though!! But because it's hurting Orihime :) :)

He has a million reasons to not let Grimmjow hurt him anymore, of course, but he still makes it all about Orihime :) :) :)

Which is immediately followed by this sketch drawn by Kubo:

The chains are now broken. Just like that.

That's the effect Orihime has on him. Her impact.

Also, in the special ending song from the new anime, several clips from the original anime are shown, and during the moment where Orihime is calling out to Ichigo during the lust arc, the lyric "Your words freed me from my chains" is placed over top. You can watch it here at around the 1:20 mark!

Basically, she saved him. Her words saved him. In more ways than one. She brought back his resolve when he was about to die against Grimmjow, and then she brought him back from death itself after Ulquiorra killed him. Incredible.

I maybe a big fan of ichihime back in the old days but sometimes I do enjoy shipping her with others especially Ulquihime. Kubo making sure Orihime can be ship with fine dudes that interact with her and she get along with them pretty well. LMAO.

i love people's willingness to get hype over dumb shit.

I was driving home today and pull up to a light. As i'm slowing down i 👁️👁️ lock 👁️👁️ eyes with the dude in the car next to me. I spring into action, this is the moment I've been waiting for.

Now, something you must know about me is I drive around with several small plastic 🦀crabs 🦀 on my dashboard, One: for the whimsy of it all and two: on the off chance i encounter another driver who i think could benefit from witnessing them.

This young gentleman was one such someone.

As i pull up, as previously stated, our eyes lock and I hold up one☝️ finger☝️

Perplexed by my unprompted gesticulation, the young man rolls down his window, "what the devil could this perfect stranger be about to tell me?" he might have been thinking.

I present a singular dashboard crab, green and brown, homely but not without its charm.

I study his reaction, grinning encouragingly. He's nodding, obviously intrigued by my plasticine crustacean.

I wag my finger and shake my head, removing the crab from view. Confusion again, but he leans forward, invested. I have him now.

I grab my second dashboard crab, a rotund white and brown crab, easily the most beautiful of my crabs as it sports large discernible claws of an attractive size and silhouette.

✌️ TWO ✌️ i tell him.

He's cheering now, and rightly so, as these are delightful little beasts that anyone would be happy to encounter. But now comes the clincher, time to seal the deal.

My finger wags once more. He's awestruck, I have him completely enraptured. If a car had come and smeared us both into the pavement we would not have noticed, so wrapped up in my display were we.

I bring out my showstopper: a bright pink spider crab with delicately long legs the likes of which had never before nor since been seen in mid afternoon traffic.

As emphatically as i can express, I display all three of my dashboard crabs to this man, three fingers pressed triumphantly to the glass.

the guy is losing it in his car, mouth wide in what i assume to be a primal shout of crab derived excitement. His arms are pumping so vigorously its shaking his stationary vehicle.

We sit there, sharing in a moment of mutual jubilation, and then the light changes, and we move forward in line. He drives off, honking his horn in rapturous exultation,

and we part ways, exactly the same perhaps but changed nonetheless.
