Bittersweet off-pop-hymns can be found next to more austere pieces. Il Circolo del Frattempo is a platform, that aims to trigger a process of exchange between different forms of arts, humanities and communities, in order to act, react and connect. And this is how it looks like: The music stage is set up for three live-sets and two dj-sets in the center of a basement, where the make-it-happeners present their works. The wild roof-garden welcomes talks and installations, while the silver room becomes holy lab and hosts a panel with different actors from different niches talking about “How to build communities through sound” on a global and local level. The park, once a garage and now nutrition pool, is for food and chilling. Above us all, on a mezzanine, a momentary art residency takes place. All of this has to be considered as pilot of an impermanent installation, open to change its shape in future for what the hack! Wandering from place to place, mammals might end up where they started or they could go somewhere completely different. Most migrations are seasonal, in order to provide mammals a good habitat and food. But what if the problem is not (just) the climate? What if the reasons that push mammals to migrate, turn into other mammals? Or the interests that other mammals see in a specific land. In nature, this would have probably led to a fight, and actually this is what happens: wars. But with unequal weapons the only choice for simple mammals is to run away. Again, in search of good habitat and food. TOURISM is now the largest employer on the planet. One in every 11 people relies on the industry for work. The uneasy balance between the visited and the visitors has gone beyond a tipping point. Venice is one of the most agonisingly pressured of all: 28 million tourists in 2017, in a city with a population of 55,000. Anarchists in Barcelona held up tourist buses in protest against the cost of living that they say is inflicted by tourism, especially by short-term-let companies, which drive up housing costs. Mass tourism is changing the culture, the lifestyle, the tradition. Mass tourism is destroying fishing villages, closing down local grocery stores. Mass tourism is moving masses to migrate because of masses moving. Migrators. What ́s the PRICE for the ride? SOUNDING THE CITY: Rotonda di via Besana, Milano

Jen Reimer (CAN) & Max Stein (USA) share a fascination with resonant spaces, the urban soundscape and site-specific performance and installation. Drawing inspiration from the hidden harmony and secret rhythms present in urban sound environments, they create immersive multichannel sound works for processed horn and field recordings: conceived, composed, performed and recorded in the spaces themselves.
Sounding the City is a series of site-specific installations that explore the act of melding the urban soundscape with precomposed musical compositions. In this installation, the compositions will consist of field recordings and harmonic textures collected from the Rotonda Besana. These compositions will blend with the natural soundscape and blur the perceptual lines of what is natural and what is inserted into the environment.
MADAM and VSA invited Jen Reimer (CAN) & Max Stein (USA) for an artistic residency at the Rotonda Besana in Milano to set up their site-specific installation Sounding the city.
On August 29-30 they will record and set up their installation, which will be presented on august 31 for visitors to come in and listen.

Focus on Black MIDI Music Black MIDI Music was born in a recent time/space no better defined. Son of the digital area, video games and nerds, born in Japan near the end of 2009, cherished within the virtual walls at the crossroads of the East and the West. On Youtube, composers-programmers (or groups of composers) from different corners of the world, face with the intent of including as many notes as possible in a musical composition. The outcomes are 8 bit-post-baroque tracks together with multicolor representations of MIDI softwares. A binomial putting through the wringer the video cards of several computers. From the name, Black Midi Music. MADAM presents the installation ‘#1’. A waterfall of sound bricks invades the spaces of teatro Franco Parenti. Ten, eleven, thirty-six million of colored notes, evade from the musical compositions and hit the bystanders’ mind. Each evening, operas composed by a different author will be presented. Each evening, you will become a Black MIDI Music composer. One click is enough. One note is enough. One atom is enough. One each is enough, to develop a mountain.
