95% of people in the Marauders fandom who talk about the exclusion of women are also the people who either 1) Don't even post about the women themselves. 2) Glamourize the women to an insane degree where they (Lily) is this perfect girl boss who can do no wrong (Which is honestly worst because it's like this backhanded compliment)

This leads to situations where writers would actually give female characters flaws THAT MAKE THEN AS HUMAN AS PEOPLE WOULD THE MALE CHARACTERS and then the writers would get labeled as a "misogynist".

There is this weird sensitivity around female characters that isn't there with the male characters.

also, Severus Snape is mid.

I didnt mind ATYD (All The Young Dudes by mskingbean89) when I read it but it is INCREDIBLY overhyped and it annoys me so much when people act like its canon by adding Grant or 'Moony Toast' or saying "we're spelling her name 'Walpurga' bc thats how atyd was!" for fanfics. I like both the marauders and Snape but their separate fandoms make me roll my eyes. Marauder stans I feel they just hate him for the shit Snape didn't even do and calling him snivellus is so cringe, their hatred of Snape sometimes have very stupid reasons that doesn't even make sense. And Snape stans just keep treating Snape as a poor little victim and keep talking about how much they think James (sometimes Sirius and Remus too but it's mostly just james) is the Satan and every problem comes from him and he's the devil. Both sides just refuse to see that they were both BAD. how did this become a morally contest on who is better than who? Isn't it more interesting to have nuance in a character than have a character who's just morally good and pure and did nothing wrong? Marauder stans and Snape stans both think their favs are all good and keep fighting over who is more "good". Whenever I follow a Snape or marauder stan, all they talk about is how much they hate snape or the marauders. Like just accept that they were all morally gray and let the discussion REST.

the way a lot of people talk about Barty Crouch Jr. feels saneist, or at least fetishizing the “manic pixie dream boy aesthetic”, which is wild because Barty was never even a saneist caricature of a mentally ill person in the books, unlike poor Bellatrix

Lately I feel a bit conflicted about the whole 'fuck jkr' mantra that has taken hold of the fandom. On one hand, I think it is generally well-intentioned (and I agree, fuck her), but on the other, I think for many people it's just a way to absolve themselves from ever having to grapple with the actual issue. For example, I've seen many people with 'fuck jkr' in their bio reblog or even write quite transphobic takes, or follow blogs that are openly and undeniably transmisogynistic. It's probably not on purpose most of the time but given the fandom we're in and the kind of people it attracts, I believe we have a responsibility to try and identify that sort of rhetoric. At least if we are trying to make trans people feel included and safe here, as I believe was the whole point of the 'fuck jkr' thing in the first place?

no amount of meta will ever make me not hate Snape. “he redeemed himself in the end,” yes, so? he’s still the most annoying character in the books TO ME. whenever i read a scene he’s in from the books i imagine myself punching him in the face because i hate him so hard it’s almost unhealthy. plenty of people hate Dobby because he’s annoying but nobody cares about that, then why can’t i think Snape was a good person or at least on the lighter side of moral greyness and be deeply annoyed by him?

I think there should be more fics with platonic Wolfstar! Why can’t those two boys have a beautiful platonic friendship instead of a romantic relationship? They shared a brotherly hug when they reunited in POA, after all!
