Gonna ramble on “You are a ghost, I am a ghost” for a lil bit to dump some ideas that’s been accumulating for the past 24hrs like hey,

what if You’re a ghost turns out to be another Flora/Claire song again?

I too thought at the start that this was going to be a song tribute (reference?) to the Maya ghost chpt in the Overture manga. But then we learn who sings this first half. Why is Hikari singing with Maya??? This pairup almost never happens in any of their songs before this! Then the lyrics stuck with me and my mind took a different turn and ran with it.

In a few lines they sing of both hope and despair of being on stage, being bound to stage, being cast into the shadows of the stage yet still held captive where “she will dance until her life runs out”. In the context of Starlight the stage play, Claire might as well have been the ghost of the tower, held captive till death claims her (tbh, if Flora never climbed that tower again) and even then the sin of the stars remain and continually lures new victims to the tragedy.

I mean, lyrics for the first half sound rather dark tbh. They’re really taking this ghost thing seriously this time.

What really stuck with me was the last few lines:

(Maya) That is the Lord of the Stage (Hikari) You and I (Maya) That is the Darkness of the Stage (Both) You are me

As much as I’d like Claudine to be involved in this half, direct parallels for Maya seem to be best drawn from Hikari (??? Nana works too???). Among the girls, Maya and Hikari are also (the most?) bound to the stage in their own ways; Maya is bound to the stage as Top Star Tendou Maya, what the crowd recognizes her as, where she belongs to and is the loneliest at, position zero, where she’ll earn her biggest bucks, “loved because of beauty”, “a holy singing voice”. Similarly Hikari had everything that could propel her to position of Top Star, her skills were acknowledged to be above her peers even in her introductory episode (heck, stage!Hikari could handle the Chorus that the class struggled against). Except her brilliance was robbed from her, leaving her quite a hollow shell of a stage girl, a “ghost” if you will, “enclosed inside (her fated) stage, she will dance until her life runs out.” Together they are the lords that embody the darkness of the stage.

But because Hikari and Maya (and JunNana) are the ones singing this first half, there is hope that the rest of the class sings the second half, specifically Karen and Claudine??? Which loops back to my earlier speculation if this will be another Flora/Claire song?? Where the KarenKuro half will bring a positive contrast albeit the ghost theme??
