AFTER MEETING THE VAMPIRE / FAIRY HYBRID ; atlas didn’t waste much time in tellings mars about her . there was something about her , something that continued to draw him in . he hadn’t told mars everything , just about how he met someone who peaked his interest . it was new for the male mermaid . he didn’t often get close to people , yet lilith was someone he WANTED to get close to . the more time he spent with her , the more he found himself wanting to spend even more time with her . wanted to get to know her better .
it wasn’t long after that mars seemed to start sharing her own stories about someone she met . while it took the two awhile to figure out , the dots all started to connect AFTER new years . the person the two had met , the one they both seemed to be so fond of , was the same person . they found it both amusing and worrisome , neither wanted to get in the way of the other’s happiness . yet neither wanted to stop getting close to the hybrid . it didn’t seem to change much between them , they weren’t upset with each other and both kind of just wanted to see what would happen next .
atlas was a little excited about what could come next – though he tried to play it cool . deciding to spend the day with mars , like he normally did , he still reached out to lilith to see what she was going to be doing . when she revealed that she had no plans and asked him out , he instead invited her over to hang out with him and mars . mars and atlas had known that they were talking to the same person , but lily didn’t know that they knew or that they were such close friends . so it didn’t come as a surprise when mars told him to invite her over so they could ALL talk . it was the knock on the door that made atlas slightly nervous . he didn’t want lilith to get the wrong idea , to think that they were cornering her or something . he cared for her and clearly he loved mars ––- guess he just wanted to know what they all wanted . if he needed to back out , he would . as long as both woman ended up happy .
“ wow – ” he said when he opened the door , once again being reminded of how awestruck he got around the hybrid . “ i mean , hi . ” he greeted , smiling brightly at her before bringing her in for a hug . “ so , uh , there’s something you should know – ” he started . for a man who’s GREAT with words , he seemed at a loss in that moment . he just wanted to give her a heads but of who exactly his friend was that she was about to ‘ meet ’ .
Fluttering around the garden trying to find an emptyspace that wasn’t filled with lovers celebrating their day, Lily was startingto get frustrated. The rose garden was her favorite place in town but it alsohappened to be a popular spot for Valentine’s Day. She had just settled downinto the dirt when her phone rang. It was Atlas, the mermaid that she’s beengetting close to. She glanced over at the spot where they first met. They laidin the rain together, reminiscing about their past and how much they loved thewater. He asked her if she had any plans for today and honestly, she was afraidto make any. Not only had she’d been getting really close to Atlas, she wasalso getting close to Marcelline, a witch that she slow danced with on New Year’s.She started to fall for both of them and didn’t want to make the wrong choice…it was just that they both felt so right. Lilith’s guard started to come downaround them and it scared her… so she was going to avoid them both today.Valentine’s Day made relationships complicated.
Atlas calling felt like a sign from her ancestors so shetook a leap and asked him out. It turns out he had plans with a friend butinsisted that she joined them. It made things easier for the hybrid. Thingswould be less complicated hanging out with a group of friends on Valentine’sDay. Lily had to make an impression though. She had to make a good impressionon his friend because friends talk.
She took her time getting ready. After a long, hotshower, she dressed herself in a light blue puffy blouse and jeans. She let herhair flow down her back, slipped on her flats and grabbed her purse as she madeher way out of the door. The trip to Atlas’s place was short. She knockedlightly on the door and couldn’t hide her anxious smile as she waited for himto answer. “Hi,” she answered as she was brought in for her hug. Her eyebrowraised at his awkwardness and she looked past him as his friend walked into herperipheral. Her mouth dropped when she recognized exactly who his friend wasbut she quickly replaced it with a smile. “Marcelline,” she said between herteeth. “You and Atlas… Um, hi. This is your friend?”
The feelings Marc had about the entire situation could at the very least be considered complicated. She was never one to deal with emotions or understand them and this was no exception. As they had always been with each other Atlas and Marc had spoken openly about Lilith but a part of her wasn’t even sure how to speak certain feelings aloud. Feelings like the tinge of jealously that seemed to be felt over both of the others and not just Lilith. That paired with the insecurity that she could ever be deserving of either of them were things that stayed pushed down deep. She could only hope she didn’t complicate things for her best friend along the way.
Nerves didn’t have time to get the best of her once Lilith had been invited over because Marc had shut herself into her room and fretted over an outfit. A situation which was entirely unfamiliar to her in itself and thus gave her a proper distraction. Eventually she settled on some of her lesser distressed clothing and went with a sheer pair of black tights, showing off much of the tattoos on her legs as well as simple black shorts and a black crop top. The only bit of color mixed in was the teal flannel she pulled on over it all but is felt like a put together outfit and that was going to be good enough for her.
Grabbing a large envelope from her desk she tucked it under her arm and was just coming out of her room when she heard Atlas answering the door. A flash of insecurity had her stashing the envelope on a nearby book shelf before she casually saddled up behind Atlas. Just in time to catch Lilith’s eyes as the two hugged. Hypervigilance struck as she noted every minute reaction down to the gritted teeth and her full name being spoken. Marc didn’t flinch but inside she felt herself turning back inwards protectively. “Marc. Just Marc,” she corrected instinctively. “And friends is putting it lightly. Best friends, roommates and soulmates is far more accurate,” she added giving her best false smirk as she answered.
Every part of her wanted to flee without another word on the matter but the smallest bit of her also wanted to grab Atlas by the hand and hold on tight. She did neither instead settling on waving her hand to welcome Lilith in and then walking ahead of them towards the living room. Nothing in her posture or face showed even a fraction of how she truly felt as a natural mask slipped in place and she strutted ahead. “I don’t know what the plan is but I’m vetoing rom coms before it even comes up.”
