President Obama after Oregon shooting: “Our thoughts and prayers are not enough.”
Hours after today’s massacre in Oregon, President Obama took the podium for the 15th time after a mass shooting. Sounding stern and appearing frustrated, Obama challenged Americans to respond more forcefully to this shooting. His full, impassioned statement is one every American needs to hear.
don’t you just fucking LOVE when influential people use their platform to SHIT ALL OVER MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE whenever a violent tragedy such as this takes place? Way to go, Mr. President. Nice one. Let’s not just say “There was another mass shooting, in order to keep people safe from people who desire to kill others we should modify our gun laws.” Let’s say “People who do this kind of thing are crazy, right? Totally sick in the head. Those mentally ill people, always shooting up schools, and mass murdering people with them guns. Guns don’t keep us safe from these wackos. Let’s enforce stricter regulations to prevent yahoos like this dude from shooting more people in the face. Did I mention you’d have to be totally mentally ill to do something like this yet? Did I mention the people responsible for all the other school shootings had to have been crazy too? Oh good.”
It’s a tragedy, and something needs to be done about it. But I am so sick of politicians and media spokesmen always explaining away terrible acts of violence with mental illness. It only increases the stigma against those who are mentally ill, and makes the world more dangerous for us.
Mentally ill people are much more likely to be victims of violent crime than they are to commit one. And rhetoric like this contributes in no small way to that statistic.
What happened was terrible. The person who killed and wounded those people was an awful person, who was full of hate. But it’s time to stop using the “crazy” card to distance violent criminals from “normal” people. It’s toxic, and does nothing to remedy the situation at hand. It just gives the public an already marginalized group of people to blame.
I disagree with the above. The root of the problem is in society, it’s in loneliness. There are many mentally ill, and the number is increasing. From the wifi we use to the cars we drive to the food and milk we consume, our bodies are constantly under attack. Hormones are going out of wack. Parents not spending enough time with their kids, or letting their childen be spoiled without proper attention. It takes a community to raise a child, and as soon as that is realized, the sooner these problems will cease to exist.

How to balance a checkbook
why is this on my dash. what the fuck im not 40
Honestly you should start doing this when you start working.
You don’t have to be 40 to know valuable life skills tbh
I know people in their 50’s who don’t know how to do this. You need to know how to do this when you get your first job. It will make your life so much easier.
Dude, it’s NEVER too early to start implementing basic financial skills. Hell, I wish someone had sat down with me when I was 13 and taught me all this then.
And then, start putting $100/month into an investment for retirement.
Hey there,
Exciting news! The Internet Slowdown net neutrality protest planned for September 10th is really taking off. This morning, a dozen of the world’s largest websites announced that they’re joining in a big way. Sites you know and love like Etsy, Kickstarter, Wordpress, Vimeo,...

Sans-Souci Palace, Haiti
“Henri Christophe, as he was better known, was among the key figures in the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804), which resulted in Haiti becoming the first and only country in the world where slaves won and held onto their independence. A former slave himself, Christophe managed the plantation that was Milot for a time during the Revolution. After the fighting was over and independent Haiti’s first leader, Jean-Jacques Dessalines was assassinated (October 1806), Christophe returned to Milot and created a separate government from that based in Port-au-Prince. Naturally, he was soon elected as the first President of the State of Haiti, as he called it, eventually elevating himself to Henry I, King of Haiti, in 1811.
The Palace, constructed between 1810 and 1813, was known throughout the modern world at the time as The Versailles of the Caribbean. Sprawling gardens, fountains, bronzed lions, artificial springs, opulent furniture, decor and art pieces from all over the world were once literally everywhere the eye could see. The statue below, for instance, was imported from Italy for Henri’s wife, Queen Marie-Louise. There were once 15 of them scattered all about Sans-Souci…
"He wanted to show the rest of the world that the black people they knew only as slaves could achieve grand works the equal of any society."
