Starting 2017 in survival mode!
While the holiday season is upon us and many will celebrate, my big challenge is where do I get finances for expenses in Jan/Feb 2017. Rent, Electricity, Petrol & Food.
Pursuing leading edge technology trends was the downfall of my career.
In 2009, I joined a leading database software company that had made inroads into mobile device management. At that point in time, when Windows and Symbian were state-of-art in the mobile device market, many corporates jumped at the opportunity to “go mobile”.
This mobile wave was in its infancy and as new mobile operating systems were conceived, together with the exploded device market, consumer devices became corporate tools, everyone wanted mobile email.
While a handful of software companies developed new products for Mobile Device Management (MDM). It became apparent that acquiring established “mobility” companies would allow expansion of service offering into the MDM playing field at a rapid rate.
As these existing mobile players became absorbed into new homes, product lines get woven into new opportunities. It was natural for me. the techno junky, to get involved with Mobile Device Management at this stage.
Along came cloud, for many key players, Mobile Device Management would fit into cloud one hundred percent. If one did not have their feet firmly embedded into solid product lines, you would be swept away by the next wave in the Mobility Tsunami.
Having built my career on a niche technology, like mobile device management, sounded like a sealed deal when I started 8 years ago. Now entering the 4th month of unemployment, I tend to question my choices, wonder where the wheels fell off.
Yet again there is still a vast amount of corporates that are naive to Mobile Device Security and Governance. The protection of mobile data is critical in any companies survival.
As far as my future, who knows! All I can do is hope that the next wave comes along, this time, riding on top and not submerged by the overwhelming need to follow that latest technology trends and product.
