The Sky in Stereo gap year is over and I've got my pencilling face on! 51 pages down, 92 to go. #skyinstereo
Looking good, feeling great!
Ok, I’ll be at @cxcfestival from Wednesday to Sunday, October 12-16, and I’ll have ALL my stuff with me. I’ll have copies of Saltwater Snow, A Bomb, the perennial favorite The Santoro School’s Handbook for Making Better Comics, and I’ll have my last 6 copies of Zona 3 with my art on the covers and endpapers (though I’m certain we’ll have copies with @franksantoro‘s art too). I’m even making a mock-up of In Pieces: Someplace Which I Call Home so people can have a look-see and do a pre-order.
AND
I’ll be debuting my short story, Dark Desert Dawn, which I’m very proud of. It’ll be a B&W, 32-page, comic-book-size, saddle stitched book, but made on good ol’ fashioned newsprint! Only 100 copies of this edition will be made, $8.
I also have the pleasure of tabling with art-comics phenom, @alyssa-berg, as well as two of the strongest cartoonists working today, @whimsicalnobodycomics (Whit Taylor) and @mardou-comics (Sacha Mardou)! Rounding out the entourage are CW’s very own hot beating heart, the Wonder Twins, and devastating cartoonists in their own rights, @sallyingraham and @juan-fernandez!
DO NOT MISS!
I'll be there!

Scanned this with the consent of the great Sacha Mardou herself. This is her great, and rare (trust me on that) comic Manhole #3. Awesome to have art and words lean on each like she does, you pull one away from the other and it’s Jenga time!
Scanned in its entirety and put online by Phil Dokes, I made this mini-comic about ten years ago. Set in grimy Manchester, two girls navigate friendship, small town roots and groupie living!
I wrote about Julie Doucet and the art of the bleed for Comics Workbook Mag. Check it out!

3rd draft script into first round of thumbs.
Sally Ingraham says comics can be like roller derby - full interview coming soon!
I started a script for a future long form graphic novel* at the start of March and just finished the second draft in July. Four months work. It's time to let it sit and be for a while before I revise it further. I've been reading Robert McKee's great book on screenwriting, 'Story' and finding it hugely helpful in the scripting of comics. "The only way to keep a film's current flowing and rising is research-imagination, memory, fact. Generally, a feature length Archplot is designed around forty to sixty scenes that conspire into twelve or eighteen sequences that build into three or more acts that top one another continuously to the end of the line. To create forty to sixty scenes and NOT REPEAT YOURSELF, you need to invent hundreds. After sketching this mountain of material, tunnel to find those few gems that will build sequences and acts into moving points of no return. For if you devise only the forty to sixty scenes needed to fill the 120 pages of a screenplay, your work is almost certain to be anti progressive and repetitious." *the title may yet change again. #Robert McKee #story #comics scripting
