I find it so funny, in light of TikTok’s imminent American demise, that even now they aren’t considering moving to tumblr. The last two social media refugee crises (Twitter -> X and whatever happened with Reddit) prompted a wave of wide-eyed new baffled tumblr users to flood this app and yet last I heard all of the tiktokers are flooding en-masse a Chinese social media app. That is entirely in Mandarin. Instead of moving to tumblr.

There are tutorials going around to show people who don’t speak Mandarin how to sign up for this app. They’re all talking about how they’d rather learn a new language than join instagram reels and it is not a thought in ANYONE’S mind that tumblr is also potentially an option

no because that is quite literally what is happening on Red Book right now like. All of the Chinese users went “hey why are there suddenly a gazillion Americans on here?” to which the Americans went “they’re banning TikTok and we’re moving out of spite” and the Chinese were like “oh cool send us pictures of your cats and help us with English homework and we’ll send you pictures of our cats and help you learn Mandarin” and as far as I can tell everyone is having a genuinely very nice time together.

I cannot tell you, as a long time cosplayer, how much joy it will bring you to go back and make the costume you really wanted to make as a beginner but didn’t have the skill yet. Who cares if the source material is 5 (or 15 or 25) years old? There’s nothing like treating your younger self to a piece of delight and victory. You’ll feel amazing when you look in the mirror. Try it out next year. I guarantee you’ll have a good time.

Don’t have any of those? Go back and find your jankiest early costume where you still love the character but at the time you had no idea what you’re doing. Redo it with all the skill you have now.

Have a gaggle of my thoughts bc I’ve thought too long abt Marvel and now I’m upset again.

But in regards to Ragnarok specifically, they just kinda breeze past the fact that Loki, as Odin, told all of Asgard that he was Jotun? They do it in a silly funny haha way, bc that’s what Ragnarok is (in regards to Loki especially); the silly funny haha Thor movie, but like… what happened to the racism? What happened to the deeply held hatred of the Jotnar in Asgard that sparked Thor 2011 to begin with? Is everyone just cool now? What happened to Jotunheim? We kinda never acknowledge their existence outside of ‘lol Loki’s blue sometimes isn’t that weird? anyway-’

Likewise, they have Loki make a little jokey joke abt his suicide attempt while talking to ppl on Sakaar and that’s just never addressed again. In Infinity War, they have Loki proclaim himself the ‘Rightful King of Jotunheim’ in his mini speech to Thanos before he dies in what is probably one of the stupidest ways he cld have gone out.

All of this is to say that I hate the way they just kinda had Loki resolve all or most of his self worth issues/internalized racism and self loathing off screen and fucked around like it was business as usual. Like… you don’t just not address that. It’s the same thing they’ve done with reducing Loki’s very valid pain and sense of betrayal surrounding the truth abt his heritage to ‘he threw a tantrum bc he found out he’s adopted’. They did that so they wldnt h a v e to dive into it.

Resolving those things off screen is a horrible decision narratively and it is a disservice not only to Loki’s character, but to the ppl who are fans of him/who relate to him. What was the point of setting all of this up if we’re never going to come back to it? The same thing goes for Loki’s connection to Thanos and the way that was handled also irks me but this is already getting long.

They don’t even address these things in the show that’s meant to be ABOUT HIM during the crux of these feelings where it would have been i d e a l to discuss them.

It shows a blatant lack of care for his story, which shldnt surprise me bc it’s Marvel. They accidentally gave Loki depth and have been trying to backtrack ever since, and god, it makes me angry.

Oooh boy, don’t get me started.

First of all, about Loki’s heritage and the Jotunheim situation… it’s even more egregious that they just refuse to acknowledge it in Ragnarok considering Ragnarok is supposed be a movie specifically about Asgard’s history of colonialism. At one point, Hela monologues about how Odin conquered, pillaged, and then destroyed basically all the other nine realms. And they didn’t think it was relevant to bring up the entire plot of the first Thor movie where Odin acquired one of his sons by *checks notes* conquering, pillaging, and destroying another realm??? Why? Like Hela and Thor were used as tools by Odin, sure, but Loki is a direct victim of his colonisation. He’s literally a spoil of war who was a victim of cultural genocide. And they didn’t bother even mentioning it once? Ew.

It doesn’t surprise me whatsoever that they didn’t dive into the coming to terms with his race thing or the suicide thing or the Thanos thing or- we all get the point. The earlier writers put so much effort into giving him depth and complexity and the newer writers resent that because it means they would actually have to put effort into resolving all of it. So instead they just outright ignore it and retcon everything into comedic one liners, and then just move right along. It’s annoying as hell.

And the most frustrating thing about the series, to me, is that Loki had legitimate character flaws that he needs to atone for. He has actually done bad things for bad reasons and he needs to confront that stuff and handle his issues that led him to that point…… but they’re so busy excusing his actions as “oh he’s always been a narcissist who hurts people” that they didn’t tackle any of those things at all. They say the series is about him growing, but they refused to even acknowledge any of the stuff he actually needed to grow from.

Many meds can cause sun sensitivity! Such as:

Antibiotics

Antifungals

Antihistamines (allergy meds)

Cholesterol drugs (especially statins)

Diuretics (especially thiazides)

NSAIDs (ibuprofen)

Contraceptives & estrogens

Tranquilizers or anti-emetics

Retinoids (Accutane)

Sulfas

Sulfonylureas (type 2 diabetes meds)

Alpha-hydroxy acids in things like makeup or lotion

This isn't an exhaustive list, but it's a lot of common meds. If you aren't sure, ask your pharmacist or doctor.

Everyone needs to wear sunscreen.

Regardless of skin color. Whether or not you tend to burn.

You should be wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15. I usually go for 30 or higher. You may need a higher one if the UV rating that day is very high. Apply liberally and repeat as directed on the bottle.

At a grocery store before I had top surgery there was a couple Infront of me. The guy was pointing at random folks around and saying to the girl, “I’d fight him for you, I’d whoop him for you, I’d beat him for you.” She nods toward me and says “what about this dude behind you?”. I have my headphones in (without music) and I see the guy glance behind himself at me, make a face and look back to her. “Nah, girl, did you see his chest? He could probably knock me out with his pec, girl” Honestly it was a life changing event.

When Peggy, tenderly reminds him that she will talk him through this, and be with him until the end. The moment after she’s resigned herself to losing him. The moment where we know that this relationship is so much more than a budding one, because this loss is real, for both of them. But it’s also something tender enough that they will put up the effort to support each other through it.
