“I’m not sure if that’s how we’re supposed to play but like winning is fun, so y a y! You’re winning.” He didn’t mind losing games, actually, as long as he was apart of them in the first place.
“yup. I won.” Margo stated bluntly, a small smile turing onto her lips. “Which means now you owe me.”
She totally cared. Hugo was in. Again. He didn’t know why it was so important for Margo to actually like him, but he got free weed out of whatever the hell was going on, so he didn’t dwell on it too much. “You’re the best, you know that?”
Margo rolled her eyes as the sound of his voice. “Shut the fuck up.” She mumbled as she dug her keys out from her pocket, unlocking the car as she walked toward it. If there was a time in her life where Margo felt like she needed to be high, it was this one. As she swung open the drivers door, Margo plopped down into the tattered seat, failing to speak a word to Hugo as she reached toward the back, searching for her bong.

“No, not that. It’s something else. You just like pretend someone’s not there. I’m not sure if it’d work for us, actually. Because I can already see you. I think someone else would have to be involved.”
“We don’t need someone else involved. If that’s how the game works then I’m already playing - shit I’m pretty much winning - cause I’m pretending I’m not here. That takes talent, I think.”
Margo was really grinding his gears right now, but he couldn’t resist the mention of the magic grass. Alright. It was time to be smooth, no matter how badly he wanted to scream about his life falling apart. “Uh… mind if I join you?”
"Sure. I don’t care.” She shrugged lazily, turning to walk back towards the parking lot. Margo didn’t know why she agreed, if she was being honest with herself Hugo was the last person she wanted to share her stash with, but the part of her that actually did care, knew she was going to do it anyways.
“Yeah, a test… anyway, what? I like just Margo. It’s better than being someone else, you know? I can give you a fake name if you’d prefer. Like something no one would associate with you since you’re trying to like go unseen and all. Or, um, there’s that game people sometimes play where you pretend someone isn’t there. I’m not sure about the exact rules but it seems simple enough.”
“You completely lost me, dude. Are you talking about hide-and-seek? Cause if you are that’s probably like, the worst explanation I’ve ever heard in my life. No offence.”
“Ow, what the fuck, Margo?” Hugo may have been fairly swole in the arm region, but he still bruised like a peach, and honestly after the day he’d had, he really didn’t need to be getting hit right now. “Sorry, mom. If I’m ever fourteen and watching someone overdose again I’ll be perfectly calm, I’m sure.”
Margo rolled her eyes, so much that you could practically see nothing but whites. Was he honestly that daft? “That’s not what I meant, dumb ass.” Was elaborating any further on this even worth it? Probably not. She didn’t even know why she was still here, yet alone why he was. Margo exhaled, looking down at the dirt that covered the roots of the tree. “Forget it, this is stupid. I’m just gonna go get stoned..or something.”

Ingrid stuck her tongue out and feigned a shudder. “I know you can do better than that. Are you okay, though? Wanna get some ice cream?”
“Yeah, we could get ice cream-” Margo knew she completely avoided the more obvious question, but she was fine, and she knew Ingrid was more than capable of grasping that on her own. “Or we could spoon out the icing from Oreo’s and eat nothing but the cookies. Maybe if we eat enough of them our puke will turn black.”
“If you’re not a good one then you’re probably like a test and it’s been awhile, but… i don’t think I’d be able to pass it anymore, so that’s kind of a bummer. I think you’re just Margo, though, so it’s cool.“
“A test? Just Margo? I’m insulted.”
God dammit. He was actually going to have to talk about it. “Yes, I realize that now, thanks. I was fucking scared, okay? I was stoned off of my ass and I didn’t want the cops to fucking drug test me or anything and find out I’d been drinking too. It was fucked up. I know. I think about it every fucking day of my life, Margo. He was my best friend and I watched him fucking die.”
Margo stared at him blankly as he rambled on, most of it going in one ear and out the other. She wasn’t even able to muster anything up before reaching out and attempting to hit him pretty forcefully on his upper arm. Unfortunately, she couldn’t repress that need any longer. “Stop being so fucking scared of everything.” She sighed.
“Well, apparently I still breastfeed, so that’s probably why.” He could do this. It was just Margo. He knew how to handle her. All he had to do was keep cracking jokes until she gave up on him.
“Yeah...probably.” She mumbled sarcastically under her breath. She shouldn’t have even given him a response, because he was that stupid. All she really wanted to do was hit him, for many reasons, but she decided to repress those feelings. “You do realize how easier shit would have been for you if you just called the cops, right?” He had to have known that by now, that the repercussions of his underage drinking would never outweigh the loss of a life, but Margo still needed to hear it.
Well, fuck. His plan to escape without her knowing was trashed. “Uh. Yep. That’s me.” Thanks for the bluntness, Margo. How the fuck was he going to get out of this without actually explaining it to her? There’s no way Margo of all people would let him just bullshit his way out if it. She was basically his mom.
‘Yep. That’s me’ is that honestly all he was going to say? God he was a fucking idiot. She didn’t know what to say, all she could do was mentally curse at him over and over again. As the silence between them became unbearably uncomfortable, Margo decided to choke up the first thing that came to mind. “Why the fuck are you such a pussy?”
Hugo could’ve vomited, this conversation was so stressful. Margo had absolutely no clue what was going on, apparently. He did his best to collect himself before he spoke again. “Margo… uh, do you read the gossip blog by any chance?”
“No.” She chuckled. “Well, only when Clark is on the verge of being arrested for a jello explosion..” As the words were spewing out of her mouth the reality of the situation hit her. Instantly she reached for her pocket, pulling out her phone she began to scan through the post, unconsciously rolling her eyes at the majority of it. ‘Shit’ she thought as she reached the bottom. “You basically fucking killed someone..” Margo stated as her eyes slowly raised from the screen to face Hugo.
