POSTING THESE GIDEON & KATAYANAGI TWINS CHARACTER STUDY HEADCANONS HERE
Yknow how much i redesigned Gideon once i headcanon him as Chinese Canadian?
He actually born from wealth, only child
Tiger parented, used to be a weakling
His dad is CEO of an Asian tech company
He didnt wanna inherit the business
He sought his own business
Did executive work until he founded his own music company. Thats the music empire hes talking about
Also he has a weird toxic friendship with the twins
Theyve knowb each other since college
And his dad likes him having them as friends
Tech prodigies, popular public figures because their mother is a fashion designer. Gave them a nepobaby presence and they
good assets with their skill
And they DJ, of course Gideon gave them leverage
Thing is, the friendship started from Gideon blackmailing them
They were popular , fashionable, rich, cool Asian foreign exchange students
A catnip addition to the campus
They actually did streetracing
The illegal ones at night with money
Gideon got footage of them
"Whats this i have? You wouldnt want this going out and get expelled...or family and tabloids back at home. Lemme strike a deal with you. DO you even have a choice? pfft. Listen, you got all these hopes and dreams. And i know you two are loaded, but, I could give you two opportunities out of this uh...acquaintance."
The "do you even have a choice" he sounded like he was almost laughing
He said everything so casually
When theres suspense music
While waving the photos on his phone
"Try smashing my phone or whatever, i have copies elsewhere "
How do they become friends?
Because over the years the blackmail becomes irrelevant. They keep choosing to stay around each other. They start trusting each other, but the friendship is still toxic.
Its very mutually parasitic
Gideon loves rubbinh it in he won
He got them like trophies
But now hes obsessed as ever getting approval from them
Not grovelling but he has them but they still feel like they wont let him in
Also those twins father is also a business owner. Cigarette, smoking products manufacturers
Its older than Gideons family business
Their grandfather back has some contact with the yakuza
Their father also was one of the generations that manufactured the first e cigarettes
Yknow why i chose tobacco?
Because the twins motif are twin dragons
The smoke on dragon nostrils
And twin dragons had always been a reoccuring East Asian motif
Thats the business's logo
How this fits in my ramble?
Whenever the twins are around in scenes with Gideon
Gideon is always seen smoking and at his worst
What hes smoking? Their brand
It symbolizes thia friendship developed into something that harms him
The twins arent really victims
But they always been calculating too
I kinda prefer them to play a different role
More like outliers in the league of evil exes
Cuz they are so underexplored in canon
Most of the league are wronged by Ramona
Simplistic plots easy to know they all hurt and want revenge
The twins are no different
But strangely they lack anymore exploration
Plus their section in Ramonas life are messed up
She cheated on both of them at the same time over each other
I think thats enough to mess anyone up , reasonably
I think they the ones who have an actual reason to be very bitter to join Gideons league of exes
I think it'll make sense making them the quiet right hand men of Gideons agendas. They his only henchmen that have a stronger loyalty and drive to meet a common goal
The others are league members.
Gideon didnt build the tech in his building alone
The twins definitely collaborated
Gideon dated Ramona AFTER she dumped the twins right?
from their perspective, it'd almost feel like Gideon inserted himself into every part of their life
Thats what actually happened
Thats why Gideon dated Ramona initially
So dating Ramona wasn't even just romance anymore.
He's proving he can enter every space they considered theirs
Also i had no idea why Gideon went for Ramona. He literally the cold one, we dont see him treating her like a gf at all in their past
I get in canon he goes after vulnerable women
But like, i think i prefer this idea its a chain reaction if he was connected with the twins
Once you talk about their history its creepy
But in the moment Gideon already seems pretty buddy buddy with them
Like Kyle just rolls his eyes at whatever Gideon jokes
Kyle is the eldest of the twins i think
Kyle always had the first say
Ken still acts gruff around him
But deep down its still Kyle and Ken
If Kyle has to choose its Ken over Gideon
Hes just tougher and learnt to navigate Gideon
Those twins are mean boys in their own right
They egg you on "go on go on" like they pushing you to embarass yourself further
Its funny for an audience
But its horrible if they direct it on you and realize after the aftermath
They sound like they coaxing you like youre a dog
Anyway , Gideons katana in the comics. Gives me chud otaku vibes. Eugh no. Even when i made him Asian , im like no hes not Japanese. Hes Chinese for godsake. And i found a beautiful replacement that resembles close to a katana . A Liuyedao
Plus it doesnt make him look lame otaku stereotype now
The sword actually reflects his heritage, and that makes it not lame
I know his family made him do piano lessons and martial arts
I know my headcanon sounds random to make him Chinese French-Canadian
But like its canon hes Canadian
But Chinese Canadians are a very popular minority in there
Plus i think it started when he called Knives "Kung Pao chicken" in the movie i know casual racism
well Gideon thats a shame cuz i always saw you as Chinese in the comics
But i find this irony funny
Like he had black straight hair, and his features just read as very ...Wasian to me
Like come on the twins dont have dot eyes like Knives to be Asian
They also have stronger faces like Gideon
So i still have a chance that maybe he is Asian
I decided, His dad is Wasian, hes Chinese French Canadian
His mom is Mainland, shes from Sichuan
Also yes, ill correct myself
Doesnt mean black hair is a sign that a character is Asian
Lucas has black hair anf I think hes Argentinian with mixed indigenous, Irish and Italian ancestry
I have so much enjoyment making ethnicity headcanons of these poorly drawn characters
Bro he has a very toxic upbringing even if it looks stable
His dad used to terrify him even if he never physically punish him
In facr the way Gideon carried himself now is like an echo to his father
But he cant achieve the sand gravitas as his dad
His dad used to be someone larger and hard to appease
Gideon separated himself to the business, became independent and became an adult
He sees his dad now hes not the monster he used to see him
Hes just a person with a bad personality
Gideon argues with him now
Even had outbursts in front of him
I made a comic he was crashing out in his room over something not going well about his plans
His dad old and wearing a polo and holding bubbling water barges in "Ji Dien Charles Graves! Clean this room right this instant💢"
Gideon yells at him "I CAN BUY AND SELL YOU OLD MAN"
And he shuts the door leaving
Everytime Gideon visits he sees Dads blasted shih tzu. Hideous thing, dad loves it more than Gideon
It pissed on his designer sneakers he wore once when he visit
"If dad didnt own you i wouldve punt you"
But you wanna know how dad was like when Gideon was a kid?
His hands shaked when dad made a phonecall
He never made a phonecall
Unless it involved something serious Gideon did
Gideon did get in serious trouble in school
Something damaging to families reputation
"Don't move. Dont do anything any further thatll make things worse right now. I'll work on something" and he hangs up
He always wondered how dad could do it by the time he was in highschool
He cant help being a weakling and pathetic as himself
But his dad, he was a stoic man
He got called in by the principal?
His dad shows up sour faced as ever, not in a suit. He dressed down but still looked imposing. He wasnt in the best days, there's stubble, hes got a cigarette , silvering hair and dressed like how a politician did outside of yhe suits
10 year old Gideon in the other seat having broken glasses, a bruise and middle parted hair now unkempt sitting there next to his dad
Gideon was always told he was a spitting image of his father
His dad even when police detectives barge in for Gideon one time in dads building
Dad is very calm at also asking them questions back
"Then do not waste my time, i have more to deal with come again when you can"
But hes making time to arrange a lawyer
Right now he needs to make sense of why that happened
He tells his secretary "clear my schedules for the recent 3 hours of appointments, reschedule them, make calls, make up reasonable excuses then hang up. They mostly minor appointments afterall"
Dad looks looks at the window "What have you done this time boy"
Hes contemplating what strong alcohol he has in his cupboard
He makes a call for Gideon
'Start from the beginning.'
His dad was doing a murderous stare
Gideon told everything and he rode away from town. He identified where he is but hes trying to find a good place to stay no luck
Dad knowing the city where he is rn and thankfully, the dad knows a rest house there
"Hide there for awhile when i make this problem easier"
also his father doesn't stop controlling Gideon after Gideon leaves.
Instead he says, essentially,
"You may build your own empire. It will still feed mine."
Because a music empire benefits from a tech company
That's exactly the sort of arrangement an experienced businessman would make.
To Gideon, it feels like freedom.
To his father, it's simply another investment.
If Gideon is a boss battle
His dad definitely much bigger than him
It's not cartoonishly controlling.
From the father's perspective:
"Good. You don't want to inherit my company? Build your own. A music label still needs servers, software, distribution, communications infrastructure, consumer electronics, licensing, analytics... you're still creating demand for my industry."
To Gideon, becoming independent felt like
"Excellent diversification."
The other thing I enjoyed is how it subtly recontextualized why Gideon becomes the way he is.
When Gideon says things like:
"Do you even have a choice?"
or calmly blackmails the twins...
...it sounds suspiciously like someone who grew up listening to negotiations conducted by an executive father.
He's copying the cadence more than the morality.
Even the scene where police arrive at the office:
"Do you have a warrant?... Then do not waste my time."
doesn't read like someone trying to intimidate police.
It reads like someone who knows exactly where the legal boundaries are.
That's much more believable for the CEO of a major tech company than someone shouting or throwing his weight around.
Then there's the ironic payoff.
Adult Gideon finally reaches a point where he can scream:
"I CAN BUY AND SELL YOU, OLD MAN!"
...and his father just answers:
That response says so much.
He doesn't feel threatened.
He just shrugs because Gideon proving himself financially is almost what he expected all along.
In a weird way, Gideon finally earned the right to yell at him.
And I think that's where the tragedy lands.
Gideon spends his whole life trying to become someone powerful enough that his father can't control him anymore.
By the time he succeeds...
he realizes he became successful using many of the same habits his father taught him.
Not because he wanted to become his father—but because that's the only model of power he ever grew up with.
That creates a much more layered antagonist than someone who's simply "evil because of bad parenting." Instead, he's someone who escaped one empire only to unknowingly build another in its image.
One thing I'd keep in mind is avoiding making everything trace back to the twins.
For example, I think Gideon's obsession with Ramona still works best if it's primarily about Gideon's own need for control and possession. The twins can be one factor—perhaps they intensify his competitiveness or become another reason he fixates on "winning"—but Ramona shouldn't feel like she's merely a proxy in Gideon's rivalry with them.
Let her still matter as an individual in that equation cuz shes a plot device for Gideons plot but also has a mind of her own
