300 Word Explanation...
My artworks convey the theme of erasure. I was interested in camouflage and hiding objects/people in other images. Hence, I therefore chose to focus on erasure without removing and also erasure of self. The three artworks are connected through the use of the same image of the person in the centre of the image or video. Through this I was able to communicate my concepts much clearer than if they were on the left or right side or facing the side. While blending the person into the background, I wanted to be able to still see the person, yet have them somewhat hidden, hence why: in the first artwork I chose to use the shirt that was long sleeved and tight opposed to the loser T-shirts as it allowed for the person to blend into the background the best due to the flatter surface and crisper edges for the image to be projected on, in the second artwork I chose to use the image with the brighter light, as it had a better consistency of colour between the person and the background, and in the third artwork I chose to keep the shaky cam setting on as it allowed the image of the person to flash past the screen in time with the light. In the third artwork the song, Ezra by Flume, perfectly coincided with the feel of the video and the sound of the synthesizers and overall beat of the song helped to emphasise the message of the artwork. In all three artworks I wanted to communicate the concept of erasure by attempting to communicate how people attempt to fit in with society and erase their true self and their true personality and therefore end up fading into the crowd, or ‘fading into the background’. Also I wanted to communicate how when people aren’t given any attention they end up feeling like they have disappeared.
